2019-2020 Drexel

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Well April 20, 2020 is not on or around October 21 but is still a possibility!
My dude/dudet nothing is a guarantee in this process. No need to get snarky. If you interviewed in the first like week of interviews like @limeyguydr and I did there is a very high likely hood we will hear on October 21st.

agree, we're all in this together and the likelihood that you would interview and hear back in April (unless waitlisted) is incredibly low

For those of you that interviewed, is there anything that we need to bring? Any docs/NDAs/anything besides our AMCAS ID and portal stuff? I feel so empty-handed for not packing anything official lol

you just need your AMCAS log in and password for their portal. Maybe a pen... but that's it!

Im always around lol

Hey there! How are the overall research opportunities at Drexel? Is there a decent amount of funding from the school for students to do research over the year/summer? Do some of your classmates take a year off to do research, and is there adequate support from the school to do so? Considering the number of medical schools in the philly area (Temple, Thomas Jeff, Penn), do students ever go to other institutions to perform research? Somewhat related to research, but do you feel that you have an overall good amount of support from your home program? Ie. if you are thinking of going into [insert specialty here], do you think that you and your classmates have the support from the attendings within that specialty at Drexel to have a good chance of matching into said specialty? Hopefully that last one made sense.

Many thanks in advance!

Hello all,
I am interviewing at Drexel on 29th and 30th of this month for MD/MD-PHD. It seems second day session ends at about 5pm. I have the only flight at 725pm. Can I make it to this flight after completing my interview in a cab. The timing is bad as it is the rush hour. Is it safe to book this flight or do I book a flight for the next day.

Do you have tsa-precheck? Are you comfortable cutting it close? If you board at 6:55pm and you have tsa-pre, it never takes me more than 5 min to get through security and I'd be comfortable if I got there at 630-640pm tbh. That would give you over an hour and a half for traffic which would be sufficient. If you don't have tsa-pre or are more risk-averse than I am, I would fly out the next day

I dont. May be it is little too late for me get everything done before that date.
Let me see if I can get it done quickly.

I honestly don’t know much about research opportunities now with Hahnemann being gone.

That said, you mentioned home programs which we no longer really have except for family medicine. Reading/Tower Health have a budding relationship and affiliation, but it is too soon to say how that will help down the road as far as “home” programs go.

Yes, students do go to other institutions for research and I know quite a few people who have.

you're not going to be able to get everything done for tsa-pre that quickly. I'd probably stay the night and not risk it were I you, but you have to weigh the pros and cons yourself obvi 🙂

Hey, just got an II, how did people feel about the interview here? Did everyone get the same feel as limeyguydr?

I wouldn't base your opinion on a school off of a single person. Limeyguydr isn't the only person who interviewed here; but, it seems that other people have said great things about Drexel!
I don't mean to base it all off one person, I just have family in Philly and the HoH closing seemed big, so Limeyguydr's impression on that scared me a bit.

You can message me if you want. I have a lot of connections to the area and friends who are students/on faculty/or are alumni from there that I base my impression on. I don't want to skew people's decisions because this could very well be n=1 and it's important to judge for yourself, but sometimes insider info is nice as well. Also, @andruw9786 if you haven't interviewed here, you could be skewing their decision as much as I potentially am.

I’m also friends with faculty and students! I’m just stating that you should use all the information available to make your decision, not just off one applicant! Best of luck @bakarian7

The portal says on or around the 21st. So perhaps they're ahead of schedule? We can only hope!
I have to admit that video looks like it was recorded by a potato... but it might be coming today!!! They met yesterday so maybe they said **** it let’s send em today

Also— good to know that the subject line doesn’t mention acceptance. Usually that’s a bad sign.

If you wanna save a buck, I am driving in the same direction to get back to Baltimore after that interview, and I could give you a ride to the airport! PM me if you would like.

sooo for tomorrow, does anyone know if we should expect anything by a certain time or is any time during the day fair game

sorry if this has been asked already but could anyone who has already interviewed possibly provide any insight on what the interview was like and/or any recommendations on how to best prepare? obviously without releasing any forbidden information lol. I'm interviewing on Wednesday and I'm terribly nervous since this is my first non-MMI. thanks in advance!

My advice sounds soo generic but i mean it when i say it: be yourself. Don’t be there to try and sound impressive. Interviews are meant to be conversational. It has worked for me very well so far with my residency interviews. Just answer their questions and try to relax. Enjoy yourself and let yourself shine. Your CV has already done plenty of talking for you.

Are you AM or PM interview?

Not sure everyone will agree with these cons... I enjoyed interviewing here and didn’t think the anatomy lab was terrible. The Hahneman closure is also exaggerated, they were closing for a while. There’s plenty of quality rotation sites throughout the state available to Drexel students. Student happiness is also debate-able, the students I talked to liked the school. Seems like everyone should make their own decisions if they like the school (at least it’s a reputable medical school!).

Not everyone shares these opinions but a lot of people on my interview day(including myself) shared this same sentiment.

Hahneman closure might be blown out of proportion to exaggerated levels by some posters but losing your major teaching hospital and putting your residents in that situation is also not something to take lightly. The aforementioned rotations seemed spread out and mainly at community centers.

Reading hospital and Tower Health affiliations were also already in the works before the development leading to the closing of Hahneman so its by no means a replacement.

The way anatomy labs were run with the huge class size was also a bit of a turn down.

Like others have posted, don’t let people influence you on medical school by their posts alone but definitely take everything into consideration before making a decision.

Oh yes, awful community hospitals!
