2019-2020 Georgetown

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Complete 7/9 and no II yet either - at what point should I START getting nervous? lol

PSA: You do NOT need to put your actual SSN on the Georgetown portal. Here's what their Admission Office told me: "Please feel free to put random numbers in for now and if you are accepted and matriculate we can circle back around."

Does anyone have any knowledge of Georgetown's stance on contraception? I have some meaningful experience with advocating for reproductive healthcare rights in a Southern state, but I'm not sure if this writing about this in the secondary would be risky considering GU didn't provide birth control until like this decade

Edit: I just saw someone asked this about working with Planned Parenthood. Wanted to clarify that my exp only focused on advocating for comprehensive contraception services, if that makes any difference.

That's so stupid. Why even ask for it if it isn't required?

Im pretty new to this, but expecting an interview invite is probably not the optimal mindset. Firstly, it’s early in the cycle. Secondly, this process seems like a crapshoot to some extent.

I'd say it's a full-on crapshoot, especially at a place like Georgetown that receives well over 13k apps for 200 spots. That is 69 applicants per position. There are so many permutations they could make with applicants, that from the applicant's point of view it might as well be truly random. Lets say that just 20 of those 69 applicants per spot have stats at or above Georgetown's average, that's still a pool of 4000 people they have to somehow choose from.

Its stochastic to the max.

As of 2016, you could not buy condoms on campus, and the student health center could not prescribe birth control for contraceptive purposes.

Usually AdComs are not in-charge of what gets to e displayed on the User Interface of a website. Whoever was in-charge, that's their fault.

so... will they for PCOS purposes?

Yup, as far as I know they are able to prescribe birth control for other purposes.

I feel like this is fine to write about, while Georgetown is Jesuit, they are ALL about social justice and advocacy. I don't think you would be looked down upon for this at all.

For the question we had to upload a PDF for, did anyone put a header on the top of the doc?

Like at the top left with your name and then Georgetown University School of Medicine under that? Or did people just submit it with their response?

People with IIs: did you submit application updates?

no, I think it’s a little early for that. but just be patient! i submitted 6/28 and didn’t get a II until 8/4. it’s still early and it seems like georgetown does not review chronologically
okay! thanks for the heads up.

What is this question really asking? Is it about "diversity"?

To those who got interview invites already, what did you do to the "One page PDF 'Why Us' Essay" for Georgetown?

What do you mean by what did we do to it? I just wrote a one page why us, times new Roman 12 pt, single space. Straightforward.
Same. Nothing too fancy or complicated. Just a page essay with all the good stuff. 12 pt Roman as well

Any current or former Georgetown medical students viewing this thread? I'm curious as to what makes Georgetown's MD program unique and worth choosing. I scored high on the MCAT and have a decent GPA, so I think I have at least a fair shot at admissions. But I want to know why I should pick Georgetown over schools like St. Louis and UNC Chapel Hill. Comments from anyone?

You can go to the Help Me Decide thread and find one with Georgetown. Usually there’s a pros and cons list formed by the writer of the post and then the comments give additional information.
