Oh wow... I can’t find anything under $400 per night! Can u tell me where/how and what cost is or DM me?
+1, I’m curious as to how you found this lol bc their portal doesn’t say anything about that

Get an Airbnb or look at the pod hotels
Sorry, but as a lone traveler, airbnb in manhattan is beyond creepy. Not comfortable in someones apartment--most of these are people who are living there and renting out a bedroom. Definitely not the safest feeling for females...

I absolutely get that. It’s important that whenever you do book an Airbnb that you check that the host has several reviews 100+ and are positive. But if not pod hotels are great and sit around 100-150 dollars

The Pod near NYU is $230 for the night I need. At least better than what I have found so far. Thanks!

Just submitted the secondary. A reach school for sure. My application.. gone with the wind 🙂

Hello so I just recieved an interview invite from this school and NYU LI. I am super excited since I think both schools are a great opportunity but I do not think I can afford to fly up there on two seperate occasions. NYU offered me interview spots in October and NYU Long Island offered them for me in september. I was wondering if anyone knows if it is ok/acceptable for me to call one school and ask to have my interview coincide closer to the other one? Would the schools frown upon this or would this make me look like less of a good candidate? If it is ok for me to ask such a question, how would I go about it?

Thanks in advance for the help everyone!

Yes, it is totally reasonable for you to ask. I would call and ask NYU-LI for an October date around your NYU date. Good luck.

Ok I will give that a shot. Should I be honest and say why I need the reschedule or should I just say I am in town during that time? Also, why ask them instead of NYU? I am just curious on how you made the decision so quick lol

It's easier to push back an earlier date than push up a later date.

I would be honest and say you have another interview and that you're trying to save money. None of this will get to the adcoms anyway, just the schedulers.

I had a conflict on the September date that NYULI offered me and they more or less let me pick any other date so definitely email them they were very accommodating.

Hi all,

As was asked previously, attached is a list of all of the active clubs here at NYUSoM.

Okay, now you've got my interest. Please tell me Pins and Needles is a sewing club though, I'd join that in a heartbeat! Thanks for posting these!

Just received an R from MSTP admissions. The email stated that the MSTP committee believes I would be an "excellent candidate" for regular MD admissions and forwarded my application to MD only. Does anyone know if this is just standard policy for NYU to forward MSTP Rs to MD only?

Sorry to hear that, but sounds like you might have more luck with MD! Do you mind sharing when you were complete?

I know they state in the secondary that they will not look at the 3 year MD essays unless you are accepted into the normal 4 year MD plan, but do we think completing the 3 Year MD portion if we are really interested it looks better to do now? Meaning, do you think they notice that we completed that portion and factor that in when deciding IIs and acceptances into the regular 4 year MD plan?

Personally, I don't think NYU is worried about whether we're interested in attending. I'm not going to submit it before an acceptance unless I don't have a decision by around the deadline. don't wanna get too invested

I did the tertiary knowing they say they don’t look at it simply for the little voice in the back of my head saying “Do it. It’ll make them look your way again.” Even though I know it won’t. Hope that helps!

My brother has been out of undergrad for 4 years, I am first generation, my mom is recently unemployed, I have a child and a spouse, and I collect food stamps and have state health insurance - am I needy enough?
Sorry, I missed your reply.
Of course you deserve aid, however, a formulaic approach is in use at all programs.
I am not familiar with the reference you are making with respect to HM and any comments about not providing aid?
I have seen the evaluation process define independence in a couple of ways.
Independent Tax returns and two or three years where you can show you supported yourself by earning enough to pay more than 50% of your cost of living. Other formula are a bit more stringent, where it was required to show self support, but required at least ~$36K income and again 2 or 3 years look back.

I hope this helps. Good luck.

Pins and Needles is a crochet and knitting club, but I'm sure that you're able to sew too, if you'd like! I also want to add that all of our clubs are heavily subsidized by the school, so activities are either really really cheap (did a Chinatown food tour for $5 last semester-- ate so much that I couldn't breathe after), or you get a bunch of goodies (Pins and Needles is always STOCKED with food).

Anyone else having trouble accessing the portal today? My computer keeps telling me the site's certificate expired one day ago and it's not secure. I can access other school's portals just fine, so not a wifi/connectivity issue...
Hi! If you're still struggling to access the portal, please email [email protected]. They should be able to help you!

Hi! Do you know if NYU reviews applications before receiving CASPer scores? I took my casper test on 8/20/19 and am assuming they won't be on file until mid-September 🙁( but I was wondering if I send in my secondary before that date if it'll start to get reviewed

I got an II before my CASPer was in and I think at least a few other people did as well, so don't worry!

Interview question for yall. So if I were asked why NYU at one point, I plan to have the usual spiel of why I want to go. What I was curious is, would it seem bad or look bad if I also mentioned the free tuition as an aspect of why NYU. I know by itself it may sound bad. But if it is in conjunction with other, solid reasons? I am unsure whether mentioning it would overshadow everything else and make me look cheap, but the free tuition is a major plus lol.

So like, an aside plus instead of a main reason. OK or nah?

I think it’s a good reason.

I would just add it as a light way to end the convo. Like “and the free tutition doesn’t hurt either.” No need to explain it too much.

Yeah that's how I was thinking of adding it to a "why NYU". Not a main point but an addendum. Just wasn't sure if it would make me seem like having the wrong intentions for NYU
I think it’s a good reason.
Guess I will add it in then lol

I am not sure interviewers actually care why you want to come there although many schools ask for that love note essay before the II.

There are two ways the interviews usually go - they are wooing you or you are trying to wow them, trying to get them to pick you.

So far all my interviews have asked this question. I know it's MMI format but i just want to be fully prepared

For JHU at least, they wanted to see you did your research and knew what you would bring to the table. I feel NYU would be the same
