Hey y’all. I Interviewed on 2/12 and heard back about half an hour ago. Got waitlisted so kind of a bummer but good luck to the rest of y’all

Is Rush done interviewing? I noticed the FAQ says they interview til late February but can anyone confirm?

Do you think attending Second Look Day would bode well for students on Active Consideration or Waitlist?

Yeah, I've been thinking that too: what better way to show your commitment to attend? 🙂

On the other hand, the experience won't be as chill haha. You can't just be super honest and be like: HEY IS YOUR MATCH LIST GOOD OR NOT? Since you are still basically interviewing lol...

I'm on active consideration rn and am concerned about buying a plane ticket to Chicago and then getting a rejection... Anyone else in purgatory want to weigh in?

Same exact boat. Loved the school it is definitely my first choice. I feel like there is no better way to show how committed you are then attending Second Look but a rejection would definitely add insult to injury.

Don’t go to second look day just cause you think it will give you an advantage. Let’s just be real for a second. As someone who didn’t get off 4 WL last year when you’re on it you think every little action you take is gonna put you over that edge. Ultimately they’re gonna take the person off the waitlist that best fits their class. Realistically you’ve already been evaluated by the committee— they’re not gonna “re evaluate everyone”. It MAY have a little tiny bump MAYBE. But that is not worth a 700-1000 dollar trip. Go to second look because you want to. Go because you’re still unsure. Don’t go because it’s going to get you in cause it won’t.

In my boredom a few weeks ago, I went through previous years' of Rush threads looking for any insight on this topic. If you go to the 2015-2016 thread, you'll see some WLed people who attended second look. Although some people that attended got off the WL eventually, it also seemed like some of the first people to get off the WL did not attend second look. Very small sample size, but I think it's difficult to say whether them attending had anything to do with them getting in or not.

I think though, that the administration would take into consideration (or at least I hope so) that distance/finances has a significant impact on any applicant's ability to attend. Say, if I lived within a 4 hour drive, I would attend without a second thought. But I live on the West Coast, and that would easily be a $500-600 trip for me. Quite difficult as I've been working a basically minimum wage job during my gap year.

With that being said, does anyone know if there is a "priority" waitlist? That seemed to be a little known "secret" during the 2015-2016 cycle (only 20-30 people were on it), and also whether or not WLed folks at Rush are guaranteed an interview the following cycle (also mentioned in the 2015-2016 thread)?

If I’m being brutally honest you really shouldn’t be basing anything from 4 cycles ago. Can’t imagine anything Is ever a guarantee.

the admin lady stressed particularly on my interview day that the waitlist is not ranked so i don't thik there is a priority waitlist

Overall, I don't know this for sure, but I'm willing to bet then that if you attend that thing and talk to the admissions team and give an overall favorable impression, your chance of getting in gets a huge boost. Dosen't mean its guaranteed sadly since they will still be looking to create a class with certain characteristics, but I'd bet anything it at least helps you a lot

Yeah, we were told this too and it seems to generally be the case with Rush. The funny thing is that all the WLed applicants were told the same thing during the 2015-2016 cycle, except for the 20-30 people who got a "priority WL" email. And everyone only found out once these people started coming out about it.

Either way, I doubt they still have a priority WL (haven't found mention of it since 2016), but it's fun to speculate ever since interview season has been winding down. But if anyone did get a priority WL email, let us know fellas.

Anyways, just counting down the days till Animal Crossing is out

I think they have changed a lot of things during the past years 2016 was like 4 cycles ago so I wouldn’t worry too much about it to the best of my understanding they pull people out from the WL to replace the person with the similar background who withdraw, and why don’t you think like this their post II acceptance rate is 70% and those 30% are those who got wL or active consideration and they just withdraw the app because of going somewhere else so eventually we all get in as long as we remain on the list 😉😉

If they're done with II's and sending out post-ii rejections, why wouldn't all of us get them at once? I would assume it is automated through a system but I haven't received the rejection notification yet - definitely overthinking it, but also wondering why the process wouldn't reject all those who didn't get interviews at this point

The process of applying to medical school is not exactly efficient nor sensible lol

And I got that pre-ii R 🙂 it just took some extra time

anyone have a good contact number for Rush? every time i call, no one picks up

I know it doesn’t really answer your question, but it took me three days of calling before someone picked up lol. Might just be faster to email, but if it’s urgent I’d just try to keep calling

anyone knows exactly what active consideration means? is it worse than waitlist or what no one mentioned this decision on my interview day. should i send them a letter of interest with a recent update of a newly submitted conference abstract right now or wait for a while. Also I have two manuscripts i didnt finish and submit to any journal yet I am just a little lazy now... should i push to finish them and submit then send an update to them will this help?

I don't think a submitted abstract will help, a published one might. A letter of interest may help, but I think since you interviewed they assume you are still interested. It seems active consideration might be slightly above waitlist. They could relook at your application at future meetings and decide A or waitlist. Based on previous years, I did not notice any active consideration becoming a rejection (perhaps some were waitlisted and never came off though). I think many active considerations became acceptances last year, but have not looked back (note: all talks of previous year information are based off memory, and I could be wrong).

I JUST GOT MY FIRST INTERVIEW INVITE RIGHT NOW I’M CRYING AND SHAKING

My first and only interview just turned into my first ACCEPTANCE! Got the e-mail this morning and have been crying and non-stop smiling ever since. I can’t believe I’m going to be a doctor! Wishing you all get to experience this feeling!!

:biglove::clap:

Future applicants reading this thread in years to come, I received an interview invite in February, interviewed one of the last slots, and got accepted straight off (no WL, no active consideration). This process is incredibly unpredictable, so try not to compare your journey to others, wishing you all the luck in the world.

I forgot to mention I also have a publication just a week after my interview but I have mentioned this paper would potentially be accepted because it was first returned by the EIC for revision in a pre-interview update do you think it is worth mentioning this again?

I'm not sure. On one hand, it is a publication, but it has already been mentioned... If you are planning a letter of intent (or interest), it could be mentioned briefly. I don't know if I would send an update solely to say "That paper got published." Do whatever feels right for you though.
