2019-2020 Toledo

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
II today! Completed early July. Also looks like all the interview slots for the rest of the 2019 is filled.

Same question for 9/27 interview

I interviewed on 9/20 and haven't heard back. Kept in contact with some other interviewees and they haven't heard back either.

They did say to wait 4-6 weeks for a response and 6 weeks from 9/20 will be exactly tomorrow, so we'll see...

anyone else that was WL - do you all know how many they pull from the WL?

IIRC it's not much, they said its something like 10% but it varies year by year
welp I'm gonna discount them as an option then

edit: two days later was accepted lmao peak neuroticism

Waitlisted today too, GL everyone! Basically a hard R for me, since MD/PhD scholarships are rolling.

II today. Wondering if the first available date is actually in February or if my computer is just not loading the others? thanks!

Earlier, other applicants said that they are booked through December, so it makes sense. Congrats!

I am sure that people will be canceling interviews and you will be able to switch. I would call admissions and ask If you need to regularly check with them regarding cancelled interviews or if you need to regularly check the portal?

Uh, I just got accepted :soexcited: (was put on the waitlist on 10/23 lmao)

edit: emailed to confirm if the acceptance was real... and it is. I applied MD/PhD so they're forwarding me along to the PhD committee now eeeek

AYYYY! I am so happy for you. I know it was in your top 3, but is it your top choice out of your acceptances right now?

Has anyone been able to make their UT Student account? Tried a couple times without any success. (Not sure if it's required to accept the offer or not, but was trying to set it up just in case).

It won't let me. You can also go ahead and accept the offer with no consequences - it isn't binding

Here is my pro and con and pro/con list:
ProsCons
Recorded lectures with non-mandatory attendance. (note: they aren't live-streamed so they're posted around 1 pm)Toledo is kinda in the middle of nowhere - I personally had no idea where it was before I got an interview there. They call it a small city/big town but I got more suburban/rural vibes
Students seemed happy and multiple told me it's not a cut-throat environment and I personally got good vibesThe school doesn't provide sketchy, uworld, pathoma, b&b, etc. so it's going to be up to you to purchase those. They do have a legacy google drive that gets passed down
Preclinical grades are P/F and do NOT count towards AOA (so it's truly pass/fail in that sense)parking costs $250 MS1 and $375/year MS2-MS4
piggybacking off of the last point: AOA is determined by clerkship grades and potentially step score (still debating the validity of using step score)
Free coffee in the cafeteria if you like coffee (I don't, but many do)
Free gym in the school of medicine with an indoor track, enough equipment for me at least, etc
State of the art SIM lab that was unlike the ones at the other schools where I interviewed
they match well into competitive specialties (7 ortho, 5 diagnostic rads, 3 urology, 2 nsg, 2 ENT, 2 plastics, 1 thoracic, 1 vascular, 1 rad onc, 1 derm, 1 ophtho)
8 weeks for step prep (3 weeks are a boot camp though and idk what that entails) then 5 weeks dedicated
They score a little above the national average for step 1 which is good in comparison to other schools in a similar "tier"
There are underground tunnels connecting buildings so you don't freeze 🙂Pro/Con
In-state tuition for those who are out of state after the first year and cost of living is CHEAPThere are weekly quizzes, and then an in-house exam after every system. Systems are anywhere from 2 weeks (i.e. Renal) to ~6 weeks long (i.e. Infectious Diseases). Starting the Spring of your first year, you will also have anatomy practicals in all relevant systems. Systems are also grouped up into threads, and after each thread, there will be an NBME covering all of the material from that thread (ex: Thread 1 covers biochem, genetics, hematology, oncology, immunology, and infectious diseases).
You are not given a PC/MacBook/iPad, etc. - it's up to you to choose what you want (I think this could be a pro or a con)
I also looked through their website and here are the remaining interview dates:

11/8, 11/15, 12/6, 12/13, 1/10, 1/17, 1/24, 2/7, 2/14, 3/6, 3/13, 3/20

Gotcha! I accepted the offer, but was worried that making the student account was a required part of that process lol. But seems like I'm not the only one having trouble with it so it must not be required just yet.

I called them today because I couldn't get on the portal and then told them it seems everyone is having trouble. He put in a ticket to get my account set up and said to call on Friday if it isn't working by then. So it seems like the only go around is to do that
