Interviewing here tomorrow. Does anyone know if wake has a traditional interview station intermixed with the MMI at all?

Curious about this as well. I asked a current student and she said expect a lot of “creative” type stuff whatever that means

NDA so nothing like that can be shared. But if you've had an MMI interview so far, I don't anticipate you being thrown or spooked by anything in this one! You'll be great, raptor.

Oh shoot forgot about the NDA lol. I was just curious. I know NYU said there would be a traditional station as well on the website, didn't know if I was just missing it on this one.

Thanks though 🙂

I interviewed here a few days ago.

I LOVE this school. The area is great and all the faculty is so kind. I don't think the interview is anything for anyone to worry about.

But now I'm so worried to hear back haha. I feel I rambled in a lot of the MMI's. My GPA and MCAT aren't that amazing. This is my only MD interview so far and I fear I'll be rejected. Gonna be a hard 5 weeks wait!

Current M1 here. N=1, but my GPA and mcat are both below incoming class average. Also, wake was my only interview the whole cycle. Doesn’t mean a ton, but I hope that helps make your wait a bit easier.

what is the timeframe between completion and interviews? seems to be varied. just wondering since i was complete 07/16

is it too late to apply here
It's probably late enough to be a disadvantage, but not late enough that you have no chance. I'd say if you have essays you can turn around quickly, the cost isn't an issue and you're at least a competitive applicant for Wake it can't hurt.

Whoops I just read the previous threads and the advice was clearly to not fly into CLT. Greensboro is not really an option for Southwest (which offers the most affordable prices in my experience). Did anyone fly into CLT and NOT have problems?

I've flown into CLT and haven't had problems... I'm flying into CLT for the interview and renting a car (if you're under 25, USAA waives the fee or you can look at silvercar which will rent you a car for a v reasonable price out of CLT as long as you're 22)

super helpful! thank you!!

I agree with everyone saying to rent a car. It is a bit pricey if you are under 25, but having your own car for 2 days for $120 > paying $50+ each way from the airport, worrying about someone picking you up on time to get to your interview, etc.

So much less of a hassle, and you will be free to drive around the area, grab dinner, or whatever you want in your own car.

You can always fly into Raleigh as well. Its the same distance to Winston as Charlotte, about 90 minutes away. Flights into GSO can vary wildly depending on when you're flying, so don't rule them out so fast. Sometimes its cheaper to fly in through there, and its much cheaper to uber 20 minutes from GSO than rent a car. Just do the math and pick the cheapest option.

I second the RDU suggestion. RDU is a regional hub for Southwest so the flights there might even be easier to find. Plus, it might look slightly longer on a map but in my experience, the drive is generally much easier. RDU is overall a better airport.

I 3rd this. The Charlotte airport is also on the "wrong" side of Charlotte and traffic can be bad to get to the "right" side of Charlotte for the trip up to Winston-Salem. Unless you're flying in between 4 and 6 on a weekday, the drive out of RDU to WS isn't bad.

Concord regional airport has some really good deals too, but limited flight paths and dates. If you get lucky and they line up, you can save a lot.

I just lost an hour of my life to browsing houses in Winston-Salem and I can say with certainty that WF has the best housing market out of all the schools I’ve applied to. I’m really excited to buy a cute new craftsman with a garage and a fireplace so whenever WF wants to send me an interview, that’d be really great.

When I was a Wake, our department did a comparison of housing prices compared to other medical centers and we were some of the most adorable around. I lived in Ardmore, next to the hospital, and walked in occasionally (could have done it more...). A lot of faculty, residents, and some med students lived in my neighborhood. I then lived in West End (also a short walk) and I had med and PA students living next to me.

It’s definitely important to me as an old woman with family & dogs in tow. Some schools are in locations where there’s just no chance of me finding a place without 2+ roommates. That’s... not at all ideal, to say the least.

bay area native would like to have a couple words...

Fair! Although my coworker from the Bay Area has a friend living near SF that is actually paying less rent than she is here. Things are getting even worse in Boston rent wise 🙁

yeah, boston is seeing insane growth at the moment no doubt haha

So I interviewed here a few weeks ago. Do they wait until October 15 to tell you ANY news? Or if they've rejected you will they let you know before?

I just hate the idea of waiting 3 more weeks if I got rejected lol!

Schools can notify any other decision besides acceptance before October 15. So theoretically they could tell you before. Each school definitely has its own policy though.

Generally the further out of winston you go, the more space you get for less money. If you have school age kids I'd recommend the Clemmons or Meadowlark areas to the west, or Kernersville to the east.

No kids, but thank you for the advice!
