Hi everyone, I hope your application cycles are going well! I am applying next cycle, and wasn't sure if it's worth applying here if I am missing one of their prerequisites (orgo II). Their website says "Exceptions to the course requirements can only be granted by the Admissions Committee and will be determined only when a complete application is submitted."

Is it worth applying, or would it be a waste of money?

If it is a "requirement", then it is a "requirement". Orgo, I believe is a very important requirement. But if you are looking for advise on whether Emory makes exceptions or not, no one on SDN can help. If I were you I would ask Emory directly.

Honestly most med schools require orgo II. Don't limit yourself to the few schools that don't require it, buddy, just take the class. I know it sucks, but you'll make it through lol
This is not true. Of ~40 schools I looked into when applying, only 3 required Orgo II. Most have move either to competencies/recommendations or now accept biochemistry instead of a second semester of organic chemistry.

Oh nice, well completely ignore me then haha. Now that you mention it, I do remember several schools being willing to substitute biochem. Good luck!

I think you're right, though, that if you want to play it safe it's good to take Orgo II! Good luck to you as well!

Regardless, that question should have been asked in a different sub-forum and not this. This thread is specifically for 2020-2021 Emory applicants. Good luck to the next year applicant as well as all of us current year applicants here

II! is the group interview with faculty + med student and other interviewees? i have heard based upon sdn feedback that its them asking everyone the same questions till its over? do yall have to respond to everyone else's answers?

also, is the 2018 post ii accurate of ~48%. i checked the medemory website and they ii from sept-dec? i only had dec options so is it the end of the cycle already for emory?

When were you complete ? Maybe they have more options but don’t show them all for each applicant?

My LizzyM is 76. Why don't I have an II yet 🙁 my ECs are good too (scribing, research, TA, volunteering, more). Is it bc I'm an undergrad? Did my essays suck?
you're not alone - sdn is not representative of everyone applying, definitely take a break from pre-med forums like reddit or sdn because they're sometimes more harmful than helpful.

I saw options in January as well so were most likely not working with the same time frame as previous years (as expected)

On their website, they state they'll interview until February this year. Either way, looks like they're closing in on the end.

Do not beat yourself up. It is a very competitive process, especially this year. Over 1M applications for 23k matriculants. A lot of us probably have very similar stats and accomplishments, so in addition to all the hard work, we also need luck!

When were you complete at most schools? How many did you apply to? It's not early but it's note "late" either - especially this year.

Thanks for your words of encouragement. There are some very compassionate people in this thread 🙂. If anyone is in the same confused boat as me just know you're not alone.

I was complete late August for most of my schools. For emory I was complete mid August.
Def not too late for you

"If you have any updates or new information to report since you have submitted your AMCAS primary application, please briefly describe below."

For this secondary question, can I use it as a space to explain any low GPAs?

I have a letter coming in the mail from Emory today, per USPS. Obviously won't know exactly what it is until it arrives, but there is some confetti on the outside. Has me anxiously waiting for the mailman for the first time ever.
Sounds like an acceptance! Don't think they'd throw in confetti for a WL or rejection unless they're twisted. Btw, how do you know what your mail looks like before you even get it lol?

You can sign up for Informed Delivery through USPS where they send you photos of your mail that's arriving that day! Very useful when you're waiting for important mail haha

I hope so! The letter looks like it was postmarked on the 20th. And yes exactly what @thunderstorm1824 said. Essentially to ensure you get all the mail that you are supposed to.

That’s the acceptance letter for sure. It’s small, gold, and has confetti on it.

It seems they are on mid/end of august now and I'm in the same state of waiting since I submitted on Sept 5th.

Sounds like good news! Are you OOS?

is this based on the people posting II in this thread, or are you referencing something else?

I submitted in July :/ and was starting to wonder if they are done with all of the early applications

when do they update the portal/call for acceptances that were mailed out? I'm not at my mailing address location so idkkk if I've been accepted

The acceptance letter said they would update the portal on Wednesday at noon, and I believe on interview day they said if you hadn’t responded within two weeks of getting an acceptance, they would call.
