2020-2021 Howard

Thank you for your input. And I think Howard is great and I could benefit from this program. It's just that I can't justify turning down pure acceptances from other schools where I will forsure be starting in the fall vs. Howard saying I might be able to start in the fall.
Yeah now that I read it, I would go with a program that gives me an outright acceptance. If it was your only acceptance, obviously take it and run lol. It seems like majority of the PARP participants do end up successfully matriculating to medical school, but it is another unnecessary hoop to jump through imo. I would rather have the piece of mind that I'm all the way in.

Exactly. I may just decline acceptance and open up a space for another deserving applicant.

Did anyone else get the email subject line: "FROM HOWARD U COLLEGE OF MEDICINE - AMCAS Application Reviewed" ?? Either now or in the past? I got it last night. What does it mean? Did anyone who got this end up getting an II? I was complete late July.

Body:
We have received and reviewed your AMCAS Primary and Secondary Applications for admission consideration for the M.D. degree program at Howard University's College of Medicine. Although we are aware students are currently in the process of completing their prerequisites, and having at least 2 Science, Math, or Research Instructor Letters of Recommendation or Committee Letters submitted on their behalf; please be advised, that should you be missing pre-requisite coursework or a required Letter of Recommendation, they should be received no later than July 1, 2021. Also, any outstanding pre-requisite courses must have a letter grade in the "C" range (C+ to C-) to be considered a satisfied requirement and completed no later than spring or first summer sessions to be considered for admission in July 2021.

Interviews are by invitation only and are sent via E-MAIL ONLY. Should you be selected for interview, invitations will be issued between late August until early April. Most interviews will be completed by the end of April.

Is there anyone else on this thread that was conditionally accepted, having to first participate in the "PARP" program? Want to see if I am the only one with this type of acceptance and if the other As that went out were purely acceptances and not conditional acceptances based on completion of PARP.

Would you accept or just go to a school that doesn't require a pre-matriculation program?
Hey, I know this might sound weird, but did they have to interview you prior to receiving a conditional acceptance. Do you think someone with a low MCAT but high GPA wound have a chance for a conditional acceptance. I'm just trying to hold on for what I can because my application currently on hold and will be reviewed again when they get my new MCAT score.

Yes, you have to be interviewed in order to receive any type of acceptance. From what it looks like, and based off of not many others knowing about the "PARP" pre-matriculation program here, Howard sends out both regular acceptances and conditional acceptances. To get either of those, you have to be interviewed first.

I got it a few weeks ago. Apparently everyone should get it once adcom has reviewed your app, but it does not guarantee an interview. Everyone who's gotten an II did receive this though. I trolled past threads and apparently this notification is new for our cycle.

Interesting thanks! Can I ask how you know they didn’t receive that email? They may not have posted about getting that email even though they did get it before getting an II.

+1

I perused the earlier messages and people's theory is that it's sent to everyone and to just double check that you meet all the requirements prior to July 1st.

Anyone know if decisions post interview will be sent out while they are on break? Happy holidays to all of you!

Accepted about an hour ago via email. Interviewed on 11/17.

Edit: Is the completion of the "PARP" program required by everyone who is accepted? This begins May 17th.
No, i did not have that info in my packet.

Got it, thank you! I have been out of undergrad for a while but recently finished a post-bacc in 2019, so this makes sense. This must be unique to Howard because I don't think other schools require this.
im in the same boat...been out of undergrad for 5 years but finished post-bacc in spring 2020 but i didn't get any info about a PARP program. so it's probably just on a case-by-case basis

I just got the reviewed email at 2 a.m. this morning, but I thought everyone was on break so I am a little confused as to what it all means ...

EDIT: Forgot to mention no II yet.
When were you complete?

Howard sent me a secondary received email on 9/14 and they said 4-8 weeks for a full review. Based on the emails it was closer to 14.5 weeks.
Yeah I was complete 2 weeks after so I guess they're making their way through

someone in the admission office probably didn't get the 'break' memo

I was completed since late August and haven't received anything from them other than the completed email and their notification to go on break.

In all honesty, 6 weeks to get a jump start on a medical school curriculum is a great idea, especially if you’re non traditional. I would rather get a taste of medical school in the summer than be shocked come the fall semester. If you think you can do good, it might be wise to get a jump start on that curriculum. Most people who do programs like PARP tend to be the highest in the class

I hear you, but other programs that have pre-matriculation programs (including ones I've been accepted to) aren't mandatory and your performance is not taken into consideration. It's simply there to help you get adjusted to medical school and build those connections, which I think is a fantastic idea.

At any rate, I already declined so maybe someone that has a conditional acceptance like I did and is still contemplating, can take this into consideration. But I didn't feel comfortable turning down pure acceptances for a conditional acceptance based off of successful completion of PARP.

Ya lol I wouldn't either.. "turn down a pure acceptance for a conditional one" Congrats man

Sorry if this has already been asked, but is the admissions committee receptive to update letters or letters of interest?

Yes they are
Edit: I emailed them mine. If I were you, I would email after Jan 1 to make sure they aren’t on break
Per their Christmas/Holiday e-mail they get back in office Monday Jan 4th. I think I might send an update soon too with some job related changes and new volunteering opportunities.

This is like the 10th time this question has been asked lmao. Search the thread a bit to see if you find any useful information. No one really knows. Some people have been granted an interview after this email and some have not. It just means they are done reviewing your application. Some have also gotten interviews without this email. Some have gotten this email and heard nothing afterwards. So right now it seems like a generic "your application has been reviewed" email. They don't reject people until the end of the cycle so its either an interview or silence until a rejection later in the cycle. Hope this helps.

Ik I have seen it on this thread before but I just couldn’t find it again lol, but thanks for your response, it does help

I completed in August and no II either. At this point I think its near game over for us.
Don't give up just yet. A lot of people will either be declining interviews and/or acceptances so they will still need to interview more in order to fill their seats and then some. Remember a lot more people are attending their interviews this year, simply because its free and convenient. But in the spring, people will have to start narrowing down their choices.

I really hope that is the case, since med schools interview a decent amount of applicants each cycle i wonder if it would even necessary for them to increase the number of interviews.
