2020-2021 Miami (Miller)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For the "please briefly discuss your research experience" question, did you choose your one favorite/most meaningful research experience to talk about? I have quite a few so I'm not sure If it's best to talk about my favorite or briefly discuss each one. (The others are on my activities as well)

Hello, UM asks for the "Highest Composite Score" for MCAT.

Does this mean we can put a superscore from all of our tests? Or does this just mean the highest score in one sitting? I've seen mixed answers all over SDN about this.

My understanding is that the schools who superscore are in the very small minority. I would personally go with your highest score in one sitting

Thanks!

Another question I have - About how many sentences constitutes a "brief description"

Does anyone know who would be best to contact for the admissions department regarding any questions that I had?

Their phone number just tells me "our voicemail inbox is full, goodbye," and whenever I email the admissions office there has been over a week between each response I get from them.

Same. No idea. I gave up trying to reach their office.

For the questions where we have to list chronological dates, did you include specific start days? Right now, I only have month and year listed because I don't think I could pinpoint exact dates for every activity

"Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review. You will be contacted by email if you are selected for an interview. Interview invitations are extended between August and March." This is what I have.. does this mean I was scored? This language is confusing.......

Yes. "Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their evaluation score from the Admissions Committee review."

I also got rejected last cycle and wanted to get some feedback before I applied again.

At this point I am just debating on giving up and going forward with the improvements I made this past year and hoping they help.

Seriously, their voicemail inbox has been full since early July. It shouldn't be this hard to contact a university!!

If it helps, I'm a reapplicant here as well. Didn't get an interview last year. Made substantive but not major (ie, didn't retake MCAT or take any new classes) improvements to my application, as well as applied earlier. Got an II. So there's hope for reapplicants.

Congrats!! I am so happy for you.

And honestly hearing that, I might just go ahead and submit an application.

Mind if I ask if you are in or out of state?

Usually how long after they finish scoring do they tell you if you get an II or R? Or no one knows (as always)?

For those that have been scored, how long were you under review? Completed 08/17 and have been under review for at least 2.5-3 weeks.

8 days this time around, for me. Infinity last year, since if I log in to my 2020 application it still says under review (never scored). I don't think there's a consistent timeframe.

My portal says the following which is confusing... They obviously got the dates wrong. Is it a good sign though?

"Your Application has been reviewed by the MD/PhD Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants who are shortlisted for an interview will be contacted via email to schedule an interview. Our interview dates are November 1st, December 13th and January 31st, 2014."

They have... three interview dates?

I submitted my application 08/09 and was complete a few days later with green checks, and my status finally just changed in the last few hours from under review to: “Your Application has been reviewed by the Admissions Committee at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. Applicants will be invited to interview based upon their point total from the Committee review. Applications that have been reviewed and scored by the Committee will be considered for interviews during the entire interview cycle (September - April).”

For those that have interviewed, how long did it take to find out the confirmed date of your interview?
I'm assuming I was not the only one that was asked to provide 4 date options.

Anyone else get an interview invite via email, click on the link and the application portal say this? Should I contact admissions?

Sorry if this has been asked before, but does anyone know their update policy, or if they even accept them? I can't find anything🙁

Question on interviews for MD/MDMPH folks. The interviews are online or in person? It seems choice dates says the interview is on the Miami Dade county and Palm Beach campus, is this correct?

When I interviewed they said they accept updates if you have any drastic changes like publications, posters, or awards.

You can send an update/LOI for significant correspondance.

Your mileage may vary but I got accepted the day after I sent a LOI last year; I did include that I was accepted to most FL MDs and would early commit so that might have added leverage.

Hey all,

Are the emphasis pathways and scholarly concentrations the same thing?
