2020-2021 Miami (Miller)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
For those who have sent updates, which email address did you send to? And did you send the update in the body of the email, or via an attached PDF? Ty!

How does one get into the group 😭😭 I never got the email and the admins won’t let me in
If you've already been accepted your best bet would prolly be to email one of the admission emails asking for the invite link to the FB group. Not sure what other options you have other than that other than waiting otherwise haha.

when do they send out the schedule and links for your interview? my interview is this friday and haven't gotten any info about that yet

For those of us who interviewed last Monday (2/8), they said the earliest they would get back to us is February 24th...with such a quick turnaround time, is it pointless to send letters of interest? or is this something we should wait to do after admissions decisions...UM is one of my top choices

I found out that they have an internal cut-off for MCAT. Apps below a 504 will not be scored. Just sharing the info i now know.

I just wanted to throw this out there in case some are not aware, but the AAMC MSAR (medical school admission requirements) is an incredible tool for looking at each school’s metrics for MCAT with section scores, GPA, and many more. Even though schools have application “cutoffs” (I.e. above a 500 to get a secondary, above 505 to get an interview), the MSAR provides much more real world metrics for who schools are actually admitting. For example, MSOM’s admitted range for MCAT scores in the most recent published year was 507-519, with a 25-75th percentile range of 511-516 and a median of 514. Section scores are below. I believe it is around $30 for 2 years and is very much worth the price when considering schools!

n=1 but for all 3 of the schools I've received interviews, my CARS subsection is lower than the 25%. Had I gone by that when making a school list, I would've ended up with like <10 schools to apply to. Although I think MSAR is incredibly useful, it's sometimes good to know and consider other factors when deciding to apply to a school

I used MSAR. It just clear that they arent holistic in reviewing apps. I attended UM, consistently volunteered in 3 of their big projects through the med school, worked with the researchers, & got strong LORs from faculty at Miller. Its a big money grab for them to not be transparent about cutoffs.

Indeed it is! I’m under on some of the metrics as well on most of the schools I’ve been accepted or waitlisted at. While I think they’re useful, they’re not everything. Clinical experience, shadowing, volunteering, and leadership play a huge role. However, most importantly pre-interview is making sure that your apps/ writing are on point to convey the maturity, humanism, and traits that define you!

I really would just appreciate it if they responded back to me or picked up my calls so I can confirm they got my updates...

idk why they don't disclose this but the cutoff for Miller is a 504 for anyone wondering

Oh man, I just realized I never submitted my permanent residency card. Was never on the secondary, never brought up nor was there a place on the portal to attach it, but apparently the website somewhere mentioned it. How screwed am I with regards to getting scored/is my application completely invalid now?
Not sure how much it matters, or if it's just formality, b/c I've gotten II's from other places and an A without ever providing it.

I received my acceptance email but no mention of a deposit. Looking at MSAR I see something about a $100 deposit. Does anyone know when we pay this? I haven’t received my acceptance letter in the mail yet so perhaps there are more details in there, but if anyone could clarify this for me that would be great!

No word about the deposit officially anywhere yet so I think we have to keep waiting for it; no mention of it on the acceptance letter as well. The acceptance letter just mentions to email them to reserve your spot.

Does anyone know if all of those interview day sessions are mandatory?? diversity, orientation, meet with deans and all that

and does submitting an update reset u on the scoring process or make u lose ur place in line ?

Has anyone been able to get an MD/MPH-specific match list? No one will respond to my emails and they are not the nicest over the phone lol. Even a contact that will respond to admitted student questions would be amazing
