2020-2021 Minnesota, Twin Cities

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I think the major difference between Duluth and Twin Cities is that Duluth has a very fast turnaround while TC sits on apps for longer time. I applied to both and Duluth sent me their 2° in two days while I waited over two weeks for TC.

We need to wait patiently 🙂

This is very true! It is also likely due to the fact that Duluth gets significantly less apps each cycle and are very mission based. TC interviewed almost 700 people last year so there will def be more waves of II coming out 🙂

I already interviewed at Duluth and, while Duluth's screening and interview process starts much earlier, neither school will be sending out any acceptances before November 15th.

Acceptances ultimately go to an executive ADCOM committee that oversees both schools (note: your application to one school has no bearing on if you'll be accepted to the other). The actual decisions and acceptance releases are roughly on the same timeline this year.

For those who have interviews, are you all assuming that “day 2” will be the day after your interview?

No.

Duluth's "day 2" is about 10 days later, and I am assuming that the Twin Cities will have a somewhat similar structure (i.e. multiple days later, maybe not even the same week).

Thanks for the info! I will need to get time off of work, so I hope they let us know soon.

Sending you a Virtual Hug don't give up and if needed re-apply next cycle!

Im so sorry to hear this, esp since youre IS! When were you complete? Stats?

Thanks guys! Honestly MD schools in general were a stretch with my stats but I'm super happy to have a couple DO acceptances already  I was complete 8/11, MCAT 508 with 3.4 GPA. Just sucks to get an R from your only state school. Wishing you guys the best!

Hey, do mind mind telling us when you submitted your secondary for Duluth and how long did It take for them to call you for an interview?

Got a super nice (and I'm not being sarcastic) rejection email. Like, it was so sweet that a part of me wonders if it wasn't just a mass email to everyone, if they actually took the time to personally write rejection emails.

(...) I received the email at 12pm. Good luck 😀

Did you status of the application changed in any way in the portal? With half of the emails from these systems going into SPAM I also decided to check periodically in their portals. However, Minnesota doesn't have "Communication" section in their portal.

An additional checklist item shows up for an II 🙂

Can anyone give me input for this question:
Why do you want to go to medical school in the state of MN? (This question seeks to understand why you are interested in the state of MN not the University of Minnesota.)

I don’t have any ties to MN at all. Was surprised to receive a secondary and I do have extensive clinical experience.

Any suggestion would be helpful.

I would just talk about how you are excited to move to a new place to have different experiences than where you are from. Do some research about what it's like here (it's a city with lots of access to nature which has been a huge appeal to me). You could also talk about your experience in the midwest in general if you've ever spent time in the surrounding states you could talk about how you like XYZ characteristics about the midwest. I would do research about what sort of access to your hobbies exist in MN and talk about how you are excited to explore them here.

Think there will be another wave of II this week? It seemed like they were sending them on Mondays but who knows lol

I hope so! I've seen people post feedback (both Rs & IIs) who were complete before and after my completion date. I think I underestimated the level of anxiety I'd feel from the waiting period this cycle. I know things are going a little slower because of COVID, so I keep trying to reassure myself.

Same! Trying to remind myself that no rejection is still something to be proud of and means there’s still a chance. This is my city, born and raised. I’d love to get the chance to make it my home again!
