2020-2021 Pittsburgh

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
What did it say for your "status"?
“Thank you for applying to the University of Pittsburgh, School Of Medicine. After completing a careful review of your application and supporting credentials, our Admissions Committee has concluded that we are unable to offer you acceptance to the university.

We are honored to have been placed on your list of college choices and appreciate the time you spent creating a thoughtful application for admission. We wish you great success in your college studies.”

Same 😭

So the portal states "In the spring, the Committee will be giving your application further consideration and begin offering admission to the applicants on the wait list." But historically, people have gotten off the WL earlier, right? Is there a chance that could still happen (i.e. getting off the WL in just a couple weeks from now)? Or do we likely have to wait until mid-late April or May?

Question: Who should I address my letter of intent to? Most websites recommend the Dean or Director of Admissions but Pitt has an Associate Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid, Assistant Dean of Admissions, Executive Director, and Assistant Director of Admissions.

Congrats to all accepted! You deserved it 100%! I really hope this doesn't come across as rude, but if Pitt isn't your top choice acceptance, please please please consider withdrawing your A relatively soon (Pitt doesn't negotiate financial aid btw). Again, you have every right to hold onto that well-deserved A, but just want to put that out there.

This Is Fine GIF

All us on the WL right now

At least the WL isn't 650 people. But if it's still 500-550, it's scary times. We just don't know how many acceptances went out in this round.

I hope they went conservative and only filled their class instead of overadmitting to 250.
Or how many Post II Rs

does it automatically update in amcas for accepted? or do you haev to place a deposit?

WL, but I'm just grateful I still have a shot. Any chance Pitt will let us know anything at all about our chances on the WL? Such as releasing stats on how many they accepted/rejected/how big their WL is? I assume there's no way to know where on the waitlist you are though.

Also, is it generally better to have a letter of intent and an update letter combined into one email/letter? Pitt's my top choice so I would definitely attend if accepted, and I also have a few updates to my research/job/semester.

If my math is correct, so far these are the decisions posted on this thread:
A: 19 (34%)
WL: 32 (57%)
R: 5 (9%)

Of course these may not reflect the actual percentages as this is not a randomized controlled study and there may be selection bias.
