2020-2021 Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine (RowanSOM)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just got my MCAT back and it’s like 50th percentile. I’m OOS with some ties to NJ (visit almost yearly) with 3.6+ GPA. Do y’all think I should continue with the application, or am I out of luck?

It says they begin to invite for interviews in early September. It’s anyone’s guess what exactly constitutes early September but I sure hope it’s this week lol

Does anyone who received the fee waiver/LORs still have the red exclamation on their status page???

I submitted in June and it’s still there.

I called them and they said it takes a while to update, but again I submitted in June?

I’ve heard they fill the class up really quick, maybe even by the end of September. I spoke with the dean a couple months ago and she said they were almost all filled by mid September but that doesn’t seem like the case this year.

Wow! Thats super fast!

danggg that just shows how different this cycle is lol they havent sent out any II yet and its basically sept

Take what you hear from SDN with a grain of salt folks, lots of anecdotal statements thrown out. Speak to Admissions yourself to get answers but be assured Rowan SOM accepts students all the way till end of June. Class getting filled does not equate matriculation since most of these competitive students choose to go elsewhere, there's also the waiting list, and more on.

That seems really odd because my friend applied the LAST day in February last year, interviewed in March and then accepted off the waitlist in June. So I don’t think they fill their class that fast!

Sometimes I wonder if they enjoy letting us sweat for a bit (more likely that they're just busy with having to figure out COVID for all 4 years and with start of school and all but still)

How do my chances look for RowanSOM? This is my first choice school. 501 MCAT (127/123/125/126). 3.7 cGPA. 3.6 sGPA. IS.
Letter of recommendation from RowanSOM grad.

I think you got a solid shot, might take some time but I honestly think you’ll get into this school. But it could take a while so don’t get discouraged too easily/quickly

If you're an NJ resident, I think you have pretty high chances. I have a friend who got in with an mcat score 1 point higher, and slightly lower GPA. Got an interview right away and was accepted a few weeks after

I appreciate the honest feedback, thank you. I'm slightly worried that my MCAT is too low.

I am a NJ resident. That's good to hear because I have been worried that my score is too low.

Your gpa is slightly above their averages and your mcat is a few points below their average. As an NJ resident with those stats I’d say you definitely have a solid chance of acceptance!

Hey has anyone heard back about IIs. I recently talked to Paula Watkins a week ago and she said that IIs should be coming out this week or the next. Just wondering if anyone got an II this week or have any other news regarding the cycle for Rowan this year.

Anyone who received the Fee Waiver still have a red exclamation next to “fee paid status” in the portal? I got the complete email but the portal fee section still shows as incomplete????

Hey guys what do you think my chances at Rowan would be?
502 MCAT and NJ resident wifh disadvantaged background (Camden)
Gpa 3.52
concerned my mcat is too low

I think you have a solid chance. Your GPA is right at their average, and your MCAT is slightly below. I have similar stats (501 MCAT, 3.7 GPA) and others said my chances are good.

Does Rowan require a physician letter? I don't see anything saying it does on their website, but just thought I would ask here as well.

It does not.

While we're chancing each other: 3.36c, 3.18s, 509 MCAT, OOS? I'm just being hopeful I guess... I know they place a high emphasis on GPA.

You're MCAT is higher than their average. They do have an in-state preference I believe. I don't have enough knowledge about the school to give you solid advice. But if money isn't an issue and you really fit with their mission, then you should go for it I think!

They're IS heavy (approx 70-80%) but they still take 20-30% of OOS and class size being extended to around 250 students due to expansion of the Sewell campus, this should also increase the number of seats so don't be deterred. I know a good amount of OOS students at the school

Is the Sewell campus opening in fall 2021?... would be nice, as I suppose our chance of acceptance would increase with more seats being available. I was under the impression that the campus wouldn't be opening until 2022.

I believe you are right. I remember talking to admissions back in May and they told me the campus would not open until Fall 2022.
