Have any people who interviewed in November/December called admissions and asked them what's going on? Their website says they strive to get post interview decision out 3-5 weeks after your interview, but we are going on roughly 9-12 weeks waiting now and they are giving out acceptances to interview dates that came after us. Don't know if thats a bad sign or if they just have a crazy post ii process
Yea idk what the hell is going on. I think they sent out a bunch of "acceptance range" emails for people who interviewed on those dates already. I thought that boded well for those who didn't hear anything. However, yea now its been like 10-12 weeks and people who interviewed later have already been given acceptances so idk what to think anymore

Yeah, the admissions process is really confusing. However, the random process may be explained by the following:

The Admissions Review Committee (ARC) receives a random assignment of 10-12 applications per week of the admissions cycle. The ARC members score the total application. Each application receives 4 scores and an average is calculated. The Admissions Review Committee determines the cut-off accept score above which admission is offered on a rolling basis. This score may change throughout the interview cycle. Final acceptance requires the approval of the Admissions Review Committee.

Due to the pandemic, storms and political/legal issues, this process may be delayed. But, stay positive and I'm sending positive vibes your way 🙂

Thank you! Do you know whether the portal or email comes first or is it kind of around the same time. I know for some other schools the portal change came sooner than the email.
I don’t check my portals with any regularity so I’m not sure. I got the email and then checked my portal. I don’t know which came first.

Does everyone who is not accepted outright get put on the waitlist? Doesn't seem like they give out post-II Rs...

Not a lot, but I know of at least one person who was rejected post-II. But I think you need to really mess up on your interview to be rejected, most people are placed on AR
Was it this cycle? Do you know how long after the interview that person found out about the rejection?

Yes this cycle. I'm not sure how long it took, but if you're one of the people who interviewed in nov/dec I would guess that you would have heard by now if you were going to be outright rejected.
Does that person know what they did wrong or did they give them any feedback on the interview/ stats?

Stats aren’t a factor after getting an interview.
It's misleading to say it isn't a factor. It isn't as important but it most definitely is a factor according to the AAMC's data on how admissions committes evaluate applicants. Your reviewer pre-II may have liked you enough to overlook poor stats but the entire admissions committee may not be so merciful and choose to reject you for low stats anyways. This isn't that uncommon, I'd imagine, as some reviewers can be sympathetic to poor academic performance from someone who had to work three jobs in college while there aren't enough people on the entire committee who share that view to vote to accept.

This is for sure not true. When they look at your app, it’s a packet and on the first page it’s your name and either on that page or the next, it’s your MCAT score in big bold numbers. Take it with a grain of salt, but that’s what someone from Tulane ADCOM has told me.

If you’ve made it to the interview stage, you were considered a candidate that would do well. There are no courtesy interviews but they definitely don’t not consider your stats. However, it’s usually looked at more holistically.

FWIW, Most schools (maybe not Tulane), but multiple schools I know of give you a score that is a combination of MCAT/GPA/Application/Interview with various weights in a certain category based on the school. And then they accept people above a certain threshold score. And according to what @HouseJC shared earlier, metrics could definitely be a part of those 4 scores they average. I agree that if you're offered an interview, stats alone will not hold you back though as they've essentially approved whatever metrics you have, but ultimately depends on post-interview scoring system if you get accepted or not.

It’s literally in our interview packet that they say stats aren’t a factor anymore.

This is untrue. The interview packet states:

"The second stage of the admissions process will begin after you have completed your interview day. Your application, with reports added from each of your interviewers, will go before the Admissions Review Committee. Needless to say, this is very subjective, taking into consideration everything we know about you, personally as well as academically..."

You may be referring to this:

"Your file has already been screened and evaluated in regard to academic performance. The intention of the interview, then, is to learn as much as possible about you as an individual rather than to further evaluate your academic preparation for the study of medicine."

This means that the interview is not to evaluate your GPA and MCAT but says nothing about the post-interview review.

The interview is blind here, correct?
The SP and student interviews are. I interviewed with the director of admissions and he obviously knew everything about my application. I am not sure if the other faculty interviews are open like mine though.

Sorry, I don't mean to beat on a dead horse, but to quote what is stated on Tulanes' interview website (https://medicine.tulane.edu/admissions/md-admissions), "The interviewer will be able to view the applicant's personal statement and secondary application if they choose to do so". (My apologies if I sound "a matter of fact", but I just want to indicate where my information comes from).

But either way, as a general rule of thumb (at least for me anyway) is to never assume they've read your application. If you assume this and leave out relevant details in your answer, your interview will be confused, However, that is not to say to tell them every single important detail, as you'd appear boring and not mindful of the time constraints. So, give enough details for them to get the big picture and if they prompt you further, then you can divulge more.

Just my .02 and good luck!

Soooo I was put under review this past week. What are my chances of hearing back anytime soon?

Would I upload a letter of intent to the portal as well as sending it to the dean of admissions? or is dean of admissions suffice typically

nervous about my interview this Thursday. feeling underprepared

nervous about my interview this Thursday. feeling underprepared
I was nervous as well (interviewed 2/4) but found all the Tulane students and faculty to be very friendly and welcoming, both of my interviews were conversational and everyone seemed genuinely interested in hearing about my experiences.

Totally understand the feeling. From my experience though, the interview was pretty chill and conversational. When I was preparing for this particular interview, I mostly just went back to my primary and secondary apps just in case something came up from there. I'll say just be yourself and tell your story. Wishing you all the best!

+1 august complete
I feel like they are putting everyone under review right now because their interview season is almost over lol

Also under review after being complete August lmao. I will withdraw

I’ve interviewed in the first week of January. When should we expect to hear back?
Lol its a huge, frustrating mystery. Some people who interviewed first week of January have already heard back, and than there are people like me. I interviewed November 13th and haven't heard anything yet

Did you send a letter of intent or an update letter since? I can't believe you have been waiting so long thats insane. I interviewed 02/4 and I'm just counting down the days
