2020-2021 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Forget about UCLA. It’s very unpredictable from this point on. Can get A or WL whenever, or could get the fat R in Feb/Mar after all the interviews are finished.
Agreed. Keep some hope, there have been many people posting from last year who got in Jan/Feb after interviewing Aug/Sep. I think they want to see the full picture of applicants before making some decisions.

Has anyone accepted recently been told about when they expect to start releasing scholarship awards in January?

they didn't specify a date. they just told me anytime between January and March and we'll get more details at that time

My application was deferred from the MSTP pool to the general MD pool in early November. Do you think I'll have a chance at all to be considered or is it too late? When do interview invites stop for UCLA?

You have the ability to upload them but will it make a difference, your guess is as best as anyone else's here. I assume with any post II, you have nothing to lose but probably more beneficial if WL

I think it might be anecdotal and only a coincidence but I received my acceptance a week after I submitted an update/interest letter
Interviewed 8/31 and Accepted 12/3

Longtime lurker here -- I interviewed early November and was accepted on Thursday! They said during my call that it was an early admit, so I'm sure there are many many more acceptances still to go out 🙂
Great news! Early admit so more coming out!!!

I submitted an update letter (publication) in September and still haven't heard back. I interviewed on 8/24.

Is there anyone left here still at the Pre-II stage lol? I keep getting so happy to see all the As go out, but Im also like..... HELLLOOO, its me! Please tell me where I need to be lol.

I wonder if UCLA will release decisions on New year's Eve 😅
Lol that would be so clutch but highly doubt it. Tbh it seems like they are following precedent with a couple of waves before the holidays ( one initial and pre Christmas wave). I wouldnt expect to hear anything back from them until like mid-end Jan

they've been consistently releasing them every two weeks, but yeah, wouldn't be surprised if they rested this week due to the holidays.

Y'all think we might start hearing about Geffen Scholarship awards soon?
I can imagine, especially with the seemingly standard A wave around end of jan/early feb. Another possibility is they make Geffen nonrolling essentially and no one hears back until like March 🤔🤔

I think it’s unlikely to be nonrolling. I emailed them and they said : Merit-based scholarship offers will be awarded from January through April. So I think they might gradually start coming out

I sent an email with your question, along with if they were planning to extend their interview season due to COVID. The reply stated what you have said above for the Geffen Scholarships beginning mid-Jan to early April.

For anyone curious, they did say they would hold interviews to the very end of Jan and would extend the interview season if needed to accommodate for COVID.

Random question but does anyone know an international student at UCLA that got the Geffen scholarship. I know it says on their website that intl students are considered for the scholarship but I wonder if it’s common/has already happned for internationals to get it.

Definitely possible for internationals to get Geffen. It is privately funded so there is no federal or government money involved. In last years thread quite a few internationals reported getting it.
