I was a part of the final consideration (I think being called the regular pool) here, and i received this webinar email too so I guess it is both for top applicants and the final consideration pool

I really don't think there's a distinction between "top" and "final" pool of applicants. I think it was just the wording changed. Unless, "top" pool email recipients got an email about the webinar today that said "top" instead of "final"? But who knows, I am just a biased "final" pool email recipient lol

I thought this too, but people from the first interview date received the "top pool" email as well, while I and others received the final consideration email. People just didn't come out and say they received the top pool email until recently because there wasn't awareness around any difference.

It just boggles my mind that they would purposefully send two separate emails that are exactly the same except for five words embedded in the first paragraph. Like, even if they do have internal rankings and separate us into the top final pool and the regular final pool, what is the utility in sharing that with applicants in such a vague way?

Yeah I have a hard time believing there is a difference too. Besides, why would they use two words so similar such as 'top' vs. 'final', where one can't even distinguish which one is better. It is also possible that there are just different people at the admissions office who were given a template to follow and they phrased it differently. Idk just guessing lol

Haha that was one of my rationalizations as well! But really who knows. Hopefully we've all got a relatively decent chance. Good luck to all and see some of you at the webinar next week 🙂

Hopefully this is the case! We'll be put out of our misery soon regardless. I just hope they share with us some actual information about how acceptances are given and the waitlist works

Hey friends, I am waitlisted at NYU Grossman and they just sent us an email about an "Exciting financial aid update"--guessing it might be the same at NYULI so I thought I would let you all know. Basically, the school is expanding scholarships for demonstrated need beyond full tuition. So, it won't affect all students, but for those with demonstrated financial need beyond full tuition scholarships, they can be eligible to receive need-based financial aid through scholarship money rather than loans. Given the similar language between this email and the NYULISOM email, I'm guessing it might be the same "exciting update to the scholarship program"

I’m really on the fence about whether to attend the webinar on Weds. As someone from a low income background who could really benefit from the scholarship funds, and who has no As this cycle, it just feels so cruel to learn about how good this could be for my future when there’s a 95% chance I’m not going to be accepted here. I registered for it so I might just put it on to see how many other attendees are on, but idk if my little heart can take it lol

It honestly is so inconsiderate of these schools to parade out opportunities when 95% of students won't be getting them. It's like "look at all the incredible things you could do" "look at how great your life will be!" and then we don't get in...
I am sending you love, and I know that myself and everyone else on the call tomorrow will share 100% of the relevant info in this forum. Please feel free to DM me any specific questions you might have and I can ask them and get back to you.

Thank you so much for this, that’s really validating and kind and I appreciate it. ❤️ Wishing everyone some peace and sanity amidst this crazy cycle.

FYI if anyone is attending NYU LISOM's meeting just to figure out how many of us are actually in the final pool, I'm pretty sure we won't know. In the last 2 webinars they did, they hid the number of participants for the attendees. We only saw the number of hosts and the chat box was only for DMing the hosts.

Sorry to burst your bubbles ):

(But of course, I hope I am wrong and someone can report the number of attendees present!)

How to crying emoji react 😭

Decisions are coming out so soon if you think about it...they already made their decisions most likely. They're rly going to look us in our beady, glazed-over zoom eyes talking about full tuition scholarships and expanded aid knowing who can get it and who won't. Sorry, just airing some feelings I'm having rn about the cycle.

Honestly I can just bite the bullet and ask if they don't tell us. I'll gladly take one for the SDN team

Perfectly stated. I can’t help but question who made that decision re: timing of webinar and why. Does NYU Langone release decisions at the same time as LISOM? Anyway once I get my R from here I’m going to be writing a strongly worded email to their admissions office lol

First of all we are manifesting As for you okay?? But also I support you.

NYU Grossman already gave out decisions, and they're not hosting any webinars regarding financial aid, at least not for waitlisted students. They did email us instructions for accessing need-based financial aid so that if we were to get off the waitlist in May, we would be able to know what our aid packages would be ASAP to help us make a decision. While the email certainly stung (a lot), I understand why they sent it. But for NYULISOM, there truly is no reason. There's no way they can turn around financial aid packages in like, a week, for low income students to make a decision about coming here. Also tons of schools haven't released decisions or financial aid packages at all, so it's not like this will speed up movement through the 24 seats bc there are few students who can make informed comparisons between offers.

Regardless, we'll learn what this update is soon. Maybe it is something completely different! Maybe they'll send all post-II pool/hold candidates a check for emotional damages.

this is why I want to unionize pre-health students lol. AMCAS is the disease, adcom practices are a symptom. I think. idk I'm not a doctor

Does anyone know if the webinar today is formal or casual dressing?
I'm going to be coming back from the ophthalmologist, listening in the car, so I will have my camera off. But as @siloaddict said, it's unlikely that this will be a zoom session where they see us/we see each other so I don't think it will matter in the end.

I won't be able to attend today's meeting due to work, but if possible, can someone please report back about these two things:
  1. Final pool vs top final pool? Basically, is there a chance for us "regular" pool people? And how many people are in these pools?
  2. When exactly will decisions be made?
Thank you kind souls 🙂

yeah I promise yall are overthinking this. Im gonna go with Occam's Razor logic on this one. The difference in word choices is so subtle I find it hard to imagine they mean anything more beyond a simple change in wording (maybe there are two different people in admissions responsible for sending out this email ?). Regardless, we won't ever know so I don't see the point in creating false hope/despair over it, this process is emotionally exhausting enough as it is. Also, I remember in my info session/interview day they mentioned something about the fact that they were MAYBE going to add spots this cycle -- so lets all hope its that. Good luck to everyone in the final pool, just remember that this is a school that has a TON of waitlist movement.

I just want to say that this has been the nicest and kindest SDN school thread out of all the ones I follow! It really warms my heart that there's this sense of camaraderie, and it makes me excited to know that we will all be colleagues in the future.

Lol, sorry but this webinar just seems like another way of them telling us how great they are.

For those wondering and can't attend: no cameras on, can't see participants, AND the associate dean used the phrase 'you are all the select few applicants in the final pool'. So I think we can definitely stop overthinking.

it absolutely is. also "transparency about the application process" has me on the floor

Exactly. Like I honestly don't see the need to host this before sending us decisions. They know who they are accepting by now, all this is gonna do is make me feel worse about getting rejected🙁
I wonder if this is a sign. If they HAVE to advertise this wonderful new change, that means many students choose other schools over this one...

I think it definitely was in the past when NYULISOM was completely new. Ig it still is a new school that some people are very hesitant about!

Yeah must be. They probably want students to pick them over let's say a higher ranked school in the case that a student is accepted to both.
I definitely can see why. Students want freedom and also, the option of exploring in a non-accelerated manner. Maybe other schools do give good financial aid..

(Thanks for the live updates!)
