Not sure how to feel about my upcoming interview knowing I may very well be the lowest GPA candidate in the past several years (3.33, 3.38sGPA)

You have an interview, so you know they’re interested! If you have an interview, that means you meet their standards, so don’t worry about the numbers!

Has anyone received an II with their status being only "submitted and complete" and not "under review"?

I really hate being this guy, but would either of you know whether your status said “under review” before you got the II? Tryna solve a bit of a mystery here
I believe mine was under review before receiving an II, but I also didn't check every day so it could have been anywhere from like a day to a week

Does Pitt give a sizeable advantage to people who are PA residents? I'm a Pittsburgh native (+ parent did residency here) so not sure how that impacts things.
I don't have hard stats or anything, but based off past threads and individual anecdotes, it seems like Pitt likes Pittsburgh natives and Pitt undergrads.

Based on MSAR data, it looks like they interview about 19% of PA applicants whereas they only interview 9.4% of out of state applicants. However, they admit more out of state applicants than PA applicants.

The percentage of PA interviews that ended in acceptance is much higher than the out of state interviews though

Yeah based off of 2 spreadsheets it looks like it's often by 10 percentage points (55% vs. 45% etc.) which is still not horrible

Yes, being IS is a pretty big advantage at Pitt. Sure, the class has more OOS matriculants than IS, but that's not the story due to the huge disparity in the number of applicants. Overall, Pitt accepts 4.6% of its applicants (10.1% IS and 3.9% OOS). Now, knowing that, even knowing that they enroll 94 OOS and 55 IS, which group would you rather be in???

I think its mmore of a they really care about you having specific reasons of wanting to go to Pitt and people with well thought out reasons are more likely to be PA residents/Pitt undergrads etc

II received yesterday morning! Complete mid July, LM 77, ORM

Does Pitt accept update letters pre-II? What do I do if i just got a publication?

This is what they say on their website.

"Our Admissions Committee welcomes letters of intent/interest and updates to your application. The most appropriate time to follow-up with us is following your interview or after the receipt of your official admissions decision. Communications can be sent via postal mail or to our admissions mailbox at [email protected]. Any communication received from the applicant will be included in their admissions file within 24 – 48 hours upon receipt. Applicants can check the admissions portal to confirm that their documents were added to their application."

The part where you should only send stuff post-II seems to apply to letters of interest/intent, but I'm not sure based on the wording if this also applies to just regular updates like publications.
Hey, so this is what I was referring to and it refers to both letters of intent/interest and updates. So they are basically strongly suggesting that updates or a letter of intent be sent post II.

on the first post of every school-specific thread you will see a link to Interview Feedback. Go there and see what past interviewed students have commented :)

I submitted quite early (late June) and still have the status of being submitted and complete. I emailed admissions about it and they said my application is currently under review. So it is quite likely that they are just not updating the status, even when we are under review. It could also see it being the case that people who still have this status and submitted early were passed over for initial interviews and have either been (essentially) rejected or on hold. Unlikely that we will ever know.

Still have the same status as well... at this point I'm more interested in the software process that leads to different statuses, I would be surprised if it meant we were passed over for interview or anything because it seems like most people never had that status and people aren't changing status. The only thing that's annoying me is it doesn't seem like anyone with this status has gotten an II, but only a few people have responded and it seems like only a minority of this population has this status so *shrug*

Submitted 8/7 (added Pitt late) and my status reads "Your MD application is complete and under review."

I will report back with a rejection soon to quell your worries

When I scheduled earlier in the week they still had slots available throughout the end of September. ~ September 20th and on.

I'm surprised they haven't filled up more, I expected all of the September dates to be taken by now, granted I don't know how many applicants interview on any given day

I believe it is 12 applicants a day. However, they also interview 4 times a week starting late August.

~50 interviews a week would make sense and works out mathematically if they're interviewing just under 750 again this year, that is probably around the number of invites they send out each week to keep it staggered. I know by the time I got my invite the first 2 days were already full

Are there any statistics about acceptance/waitlist/rejection post-II? I saw something in passing about 50% of interviewed applicants getting accepted at UPitt, but not sure

This tracker shows about 50% post II acceptance for IS and about 40% for OOS

I think the post-II Acceptance % is around 45-48 or something like that.

Edit: 45.4% overall, 54% IS, 43% OOS.

I never realized how many schools gave out twice as many As as they had matriculants, especially the T20 schools
The only school that can afford to not do that is NYU. I would not be surprised if they walked out with a 523+/3.95+ median this year. The II tracker is completely outrageous for their stats (obviously a self-selected sample, but still).

It's funny to think that 25% of Harvard and Stanford's entering class sits at a 513-516 MCAT, while NYU's 10th percentile is a 517. That essentially means 25% of H/S's classes are screened (most likely) out of NYU before they even send out II's. What a joke lol.
