2022-2023 Iowa (Carver)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Hi everyone, not a medical student, but I am a current dental student at Iowa. If anyone is looking for a place to live close to CCOM, I have a 3 bed 2 bath apartment which i am looking for a new renter starting August of 2023! Feel free to message me with any questions or if you're interested. Thanks!

Anyone know if classes are all day long/half day long/split between class and lab?

Classes generally run throughout the entire day with intermittent labs/group discussions. Most lectures are optional, however, and many students watch them on their own time at increased speed. Allows for a lot of personal study time.

So what do we think??? Decisions this week? Or are we just waiting for pool party invites ATP?
They still do acceptances in January. Last year, they broke from the regular Tuesday schedule and did acceptances on Wednesday, Jan 19 in the morning, and then they did Final Pool on Thursday, Jan 27. The previous year, they also did Final Pool on Jan 27, which was a Wednesday.

Based on the last two years, the final round of rolling admissions acceptances will go out tomorrow or Wednesday, and then pretty much everyone else will hear on Jan 27 that they are in the Final Pool.

Just based on the last 2 years though, so it could deviate a bit!

My friend was admitted last year in rolling admissions Jan 25th!

Thank you for the added data!! I was just basing off of SDN replies, which is only a small portion of the total classes.

So, sounds like tomorrow (or Wednesday) and then one more week after for rolling admissions.

As far as I've seen on SDN, pretty much all R's are Pre-II until Final Pool. Unfortunately, if you haven't had an II yet, I would assume an R to be coming soon 🙁

If you have had an interview, based on recent patterns, you'll very likely hear back this week or next week with an A or Final Pool.

Good luck everyone!

So just to clarify, when the portal says "All applicants will be given a status update by the end of January", it means to say Acceptance/Waitlist/Rejection/Final Pool right? Meaning they will notify you by the end of the month, but it's possible that all they will tell you is that they won't tell you until March?

that's my understanding 🙂

Correct, and in the past couple years, Final Pool notifs have gone out on Jan 27. They won't put you on the waitlist until the final pool decisions are released in March, so within the next week and a half, everyone will hear A/R/Final Pool

pre-ii r complete 8/28. whatever lol but good luck to those in the running, and congrats to those with As!

Also received a pre-II rejection, complete on 7/12/22. Best of luck everyone!

Just talked with someone with admissions experience in the past! If anyone has been struggling with the wait after interview IS like me, I got told 30-40 people get accepted IS in March with an additional 20 (roughly) off the waitlist! 4 of my friends at Carver had to wait til the final pool and had 6-7 months of silence post-interview. They all didn’t have the best stats either! Super good odds still for everyone IS, don’t lose hope! In the meantime, let’s all keep ourselves busy and start a new hobby! Hope this makes everyone feel better.

Pre-II R LM 76.5 OOS. Lol this 520 MCAT hasn't done me any good this cycle lol. Good luck everyone!

I've been told that over 50% of the incoming class comes from the final pool, and that most of the people accepted before that tend to be high stat OOS students. Final pool is not at all a negative thing.

I'm sorry bud. That is a great MCAT score, but these admissions are getting so competitive. The only MD school that has given me an interview so far is my own state school, all others have been Rs and I expect that most if not all of the ones that haven't gotten back to me will be too.

Thank you friend. Haha yes it is so competitive. Never would I had thought it to be this crazy.

Exactly my point! To be honest I don’t know anything about OOS but it is very normal to be final pooled.
