2022-2023 Minnesota

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
People who got the R what does your portal look like ?? do u have any messages?
so weird cuz if you scroll on this thread, someone in state got an R but then it disappeared so I think the system is just not working correctly and they probably clicked the wrong button or something.

Are there any current students on here that can speak about the II? I know it's MMI, and you won't know your prompts until you're there, but I'm still nervous about them throwing curveball questions at me lol.

Current MS2 here! Feel free to DM.

For those interviewing, the candidate guide reads "One application update letter will be accepted from the date you registered for your interview through 11:59 PM (CST) the day of your interview to be considered by the Admissions Committee during their review of your candidacy. . . Your update should be saved in PDF form and submitted via email to [email protected]. "

But the interview confirmation email reads "You will receive an email 72 hours prior to your interview day with instructions on how to provide an update letter. We cannot otherwise update your application once submitted. Please do not send additional information to the Office of Admissions until you have been instructed to do so."

Should I just send an email now or. . .? Which is it 😳

I would send it 3 days prior once they send the instructions. No need to send it now

Does anyone know whether the SJT is being weighed in the decision making process this year?

Related to this: what if we don’t really have any updates? I’m still working the same job, volunteering at the same places, got the same stuff going on. Could it be used as an interest letter instead if we’re OOS? It feels weird to not send one at all since they specifically request it?

They emphasized during the interview that they do not want discussions of intent on the update letter.

I tend to lean toward sending an update anyway, even it it's short. You can update your hours, share a new anecdote, or talk about hobbies/personal pursuits. The update really can only help, since you already have an interview. You could include a few words reiterating your interest at the end, but I would not make that the focus of the letter.

Can someone that interviewed remind me when decision dates are? If I remember correctly it was December 9 and February (X)??

There are three final decisions post interview: accept, waitlist, and deny. All decisions will be sent to the email address indicated in your AMCAS application.
Accept - We will make official offers to applicants accepted to the University of Minnesota Medical School on December 9, 2022 and February 15, 2023. All remaining decisions will go out periodically through May. You’ll need to accept your offer(s) within two weeks.
Once the class is full, new acceptances will not be made until after April 30. By April 30, applicants with multiple acceptances must confirm their intent to matriculate to one school and give up all other acceptance offers.
Please communicate your intent to withdraw your acceptance via the applicant dashboard. Once you have decided to withdraw your acceptance offer, it cannot be reinstated.
Waitlist - If an applicant is placed on the waitlist, beginning in May, one of three things will happen:
  1. You will be accepted off of the waitlist.
  2. You will be placed on the ranked alternate list for possible admission later. You will receive notification via email of your position on the ranked list in June.
  3. You will be released from the waitlist and will not receive further consideration.
Deny - Candidates who are denied after interview will not receive further consideration.

Delayed Matriculation

You may request delayed matriculation. Generally deferrals are granted to students who present unique personal or professional opportunities. The deferral period is limited to one year, and you are restricted from applying to other medical schools. Accepted applicants must submit a letter requesting a deferment by April 15. Any applicant accepted after April 30 who requests a deferment will be considered if spots are available.

got the pre-II R right now, I was waiting for them to let me know this entire time 🤣😵 at least I can put another school in the void of my memory and move on!

edit: completed 8/4

What pathway did you apply?

Hey y’all! I know there were some questions about this and someone asked today: if you do not have any new updates, you don’t need to write an update letter. The “anticipated hours” on your AMCAS app will suffice to show what you’ve been doing from app to now. The update letter is just for brand new experiences not on your app, new publications, or the like. They only accept the update letter until midnight of your interview day, and no other updates at all in the cycle.

I was interviewed here last week or so and completed the secondary on the 19th of July. The staff is really nice, but as always MMI is not my favorite experience. IS with LM of like 71.5 I think. Would love to go here as I have a number of mentors at the school. Students were also great for the panel.

If I'm ORM and have no ties to Minnesota is there any point in finishing my secondary today? I'm guessing no lol
