2022-2023 UCLA (Geffen)

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
From my understanding, you should click the Combined Degree program option in AMCAS because this will add the PRIME supplemental questions to your secondary. I do not think you can apply to PRIME-LA without selecting it in your primary, but I could be wrong. The PRIME supplemental questions are mandatory for submitting the secondary if you choose the Combined Degree option, so you cannot opt out after choosing it in your primary.

In addition, on the PRIME Supplemental page, there is an option to select "I would like to be considered for the Regular MD program in addition to PRIME-LA"
"In choosing this option to have your application considered for the Traditional MD track, in addition to the PrimeLA or MSTP track you have selected, your application will be reviewed for each track independently. The Traditional MD track requires applicants to take and submit AAMC PREview exam scores in order to complete the application."

So my app is not complete without preview ????

Help! I missed the deadline to submit UCLA secondaries. Didn't realize that the deadline is due on the 15th day from the date AND TIME of the email. What should I do? Asking for an extension? Is there any way I have the secondary sent again for later consideration or something?

Damn. From what I’ve seen on SDN, they are pretty unforgiving when it comes to that

For the gap year question, I have difficulty describing all my activities due to the 800 char limits.

I took 3 gap years. would you suggest me to focus on this upcoming one?

I graduated in 2020 so I will be entering my third gap year too. I chose to write about my upcoming events because everything else I would have discussed is already in my Primary Application. However, if you have something that is not listed in your Primary Applications, and is meaningful enough to your medical journey, you could also consider focusing on that and then briefly mentioning what you hope to do in the upcoming gap year. *In my opinion 👍

Hello everyone! Has anyone NOT received a secondary yet? I am OOS (Oregon resident), was complete/verified for the first day of transmission, and have a 4.0/517. I received a secondary from UCSF, so I would be a little confused if I was screened out for UCLA. However, here we are with people already getting interviews, and I have still not received the secondary. Is anyone in the same shoes? Thanks in advance!

I don't think it would hurt to reach out to the admissions office and ask...good luck. Hopefully, they can help at least look into the status of your application.

Same boat but in-state! I have a 3.85/521 (I have an alcohol/noise related IA so maybe that's why they don't want me? Idk) I'm crying a bit cuz I would lovvvve to go to UCLA

OOS, II received at 8pm EST today. Submitted secondary on 7/9/2022, but my app was not complete due to some rec letter issue until 7/16/2022.

LizzyM 71.5. PREView score is 5 .

did you get a complete email other than the secondary acknowledgment?

So I didnt get a complete email at all. Due to the issue with my committee letter packet, there was a lot of back and forth between me and the admission office. When everything was resolved, they informed me that they manually marked my apps as complete and it showed as complete on my portal like a day later.

gotcha, thanks!!

I just got an interview invite but I haven't taken the preview exam yet. Does this just mean they will delay looking at my final app until after my preview results come in or do I just not have to take Preview?

They say you should do it before your interview date.

OOS secondary received today at 5 am cst! Primary app was processed yesterday. Acknowledgement of primary was sent at 4am cst.

When I click on status, it says my LORs have been received. But when I click on document status, none of them are there. Is anyone else having this problem? should I contact admissions?

Why do you think you should be able to pull up your LOR’s? They are confidential from you and can probably only be accessed in your portal by the school.

I’m having a similar issue in which under the LOR section there is nothing, whereas most schools give you the list and date received, the letter page for Geffen is just an empty rectangle. I think if it says LORS recieved on the main page its fine though.

All portals allow you to see when the LORs were received by the school. Not the actual LOR, it just has the name of the writer, institution, and date received.

For me and beginningswitch2, this UCLA portal doesn’t even show the basic info all other portals show.

Emailed them. They said they got it.

Anyone with a II that applied to the global health program?

I know I'm probably being neurotic, but I don't have a "professional" photo of me in a tie. I have a one in a business shirt, but I'm not wearing a tie, think that'll be a problem?

I think this is okay!! From what I understand these pictures are mostly so that adcoms can connect a name to a face, which is only really of relevance so that they remember you as an interviewee.

Tbh I love the pic I have cuz I feel like I show a lot of positive personality. Which apparently includes no tie lol

My picture has me wearing a blue floral dress shirt (very little flowers tho ) with very nice lighting and background with no tie. Idk I just feel like it represents my energy well . Still business casual but def not like those super professional headshot.

Do y’all know if the school releases how many people getting secondaries and how many get interviews?

Is anyone waiting on a secondary invite? I’m from SoCal and UCLA alum. I’m wondering if I got screened out or something. sGPA just over a 3.0 and MCAT = 509, URM. Lots of healthcare volunteering and service
