2022-2023 UCLA (Geffen)

Still waiting here too! Also a socal grad living in socal.
ok that's a relief! my amcas was verified the last week of june and ucla did let me know they received but radio silence since then

AMCAS verified yesterday after 5 pm. Added UCLA as my school at 6 pm-ish. Acknowledgement received today at 5 am. Secondary received at 6 AM.

Clearly no one looked at my app, so I guess my 3.4 GPA/518 MCAT bypass whatever automatic screen they have? I’m OOS.

Or maybe it’s my disadvantaged/EO1 status that caused the automatic secondary.

Is anyone waiting on a secondary invite? I’m from SoCal and UCLA alum. I’m wondering if I got screened out or something. sGPA just over a 3.0 and MCAT = 509, URM. Lots of healthcare volunteering and service
Still waiting as well. I got an acknowledgment about my primary the first week of July and radio silence since then.

Hey. Sorry to say, but UCLA is one of the schools that has an explicit cutoff: a 3.4 gpa and a 512 MCAT.

Other schools have implicit cutoffs that they hide under the disguise of "holistic reviews." what a trip they send us on...

best to you. you're stats are plenty good enough for many medical schools, especially if your essays are decent.

UCLA applies holistic review, they may just be taking there time with some

I don’t think thats entirely true. I know people with stats below that who received a secondary already

That’s not true. I have a 3.5 and 510 mcat and got a secondary. And even if you look at their stats on msar it will tell you there’s no hard cutoff.

Well. Hopefully my information is too outdated and everyone gets their shot. Link to my info source below.

MSAR is part of the system that hosts this annual application carnival. So, I take them with a grain of salt. Forgive my pessimism.

Yeah. It’s definitely not accurate. I have below a 512 and got an II. They’re definitely applying holistic review.

It was a proposal, but it didn’t get approved due to obvious backlash.

not only do I have a 511 and got a secondary, but I know someone who had lower stats than me and got the Geffen full ride scholarship!! so no one should be losing hope this early
There was someone from last years thread who got in with <512 AND full post bacc at CC. I think UCLA is really looking for quality. 🙂

Anyone know how stressful their interview is? Ik its 2 one on ones but I wonder what the purpose behind having both with faculty is

Did you even take a look at MSAR? lol theyve def accepted applicants lower than 512 and 3.4 sGPA, just look at their percentiles?

Probably just to get a second evaluation for good measure? A lot of schools do 2 faculty interviews (some throw in a med student too) so it's not too strange.

I thought it's MMI?

Yeah, I don't think this is true. I was a 511 mcat and was sent a secondary. Unless they are just doing it to take my money and not consider my app which is, I guess, possible, but the UCs screening prior to secondaries seems to be their big thing about being "holistic."

they removed their MMI portion and are replacing it with preview due to the zoom format iirc

Lmao great I have a 5 on PREView and ofc they decide to use it this year . But thank you so much for your response.

MSAR for UCLA is kinda misleading because it pools Charles R Drew and all the normal UCLA tracks if I’m not mistaken
The lower GPA/MCAT listed on UCLA's MSAR is NOT because it pools CDU's stats with UCLA's. Our tiny class of 26 students is not enough to shift the average or even the median of a full class of 180+. And besides that, the stats of our class vary widely as well. The stats of DGSOM are lower because UCLA, CDU, and PRIME are actually holistic and care more about you than your stats.

That should be very comforting for you all.

I know I'm probably being neurotic, but I don't have a "professional" photo of me in a tie. I have a one in a business shirt, but I'm not wearing a tie, think that'll be a problem?
Are we required to upload a picture? Could anyone tell me where to do that? I do not see it on the website. Thanks!

people really just need to uplift each other rather than bring down folks out here, thanks for that 🙂

Does anybody know how Geffen looks at your IA, or does anybody know of anybody who was admitted with an IA? I didn't know my housing violation was an IA so it's not on my primary, I just updated my application via the portal but this is my dream school and I don't know if this will get my application thrown out. Anyone have any info?

not sure if anyone on sdn can answer this one. I think the best and most honest answer to those questions would come from the weekly DGSOM Admissions Office Hours

Second this. Our class is incredibly diverse with people coming straight from college to others 10+ years from college. Not saying that stats don't matter, but you are much, much more than just your stats. Let yourself (as a whole person) shine during your upcoming interviews 🙂

Does this cutoff apply to URM applicants as well? maybe there's a chance for URM applicants to apply on a lower MCAT and GPA.

has anyone who took the preview on July 14/15 receive interview invites yet?

Have a quick question. UCLA says it requires a minimum of three letters with the committee letter counting as one. But, in my committee letter/file my letter of recommendations are there too. How do i navigate this?

Still waiting on this. My app is just completed today with preview score
did you get an email saying it's complete? mine was marked complete when i first submitted it and i received an email back then but nothing today with preview score

i can't seem to find anything on needing preview to be complete in their site either

No email, just assuming it’s complete

My understanding is that a committee letter includes 1) separate individual LORs and 2) a LOR written by your committee. I believe UCLA is referencing the LOR written by your committee counts as one LOR, and not the entirety quantified as one LOR only.

if you're unsure, you can ask the office to double check that you meet the letter requirement. i also personally asked my school's committee to double check about UCLA LOR requirements.
