Got an interview invite today after being complete forever (september-ish). Has anyone tried to reschedule an interview? They only offered me 3 dates in late January and I think my bosses are about to kill me for taking so much time off.

Do the rest of the acceptances go out in March? Or are they rolling beginning in December? I'm trying to figure out if it'll hurt me to interview in February sometime.

Thanks!

From my understanding they sit down and review every file (both before and after the December cut) and make the decision... so everyone has a good shot no matter when you interviewed.

How does everyone know the number of people accepted in December? I actually found out 2 of my friends got accepted as well so I'm wondering about this 10-20 number.

It says so in the letter they gave us on our interview day that they reserve the right to accept "a couple dozen" or something in December. It was a paragraph in a page in the Cornell folder.

ahhh congrats linguini!

maybe you can call and find out? The admissions office is really friendly. The rest of the acceptances go out in March (it's not rolling from now on like NYU) so it won't hurt you to interview later.

I would call them, they are so nice with the 'in the area' emails that I'm sure they could reschedule you. good luck!

I will call them about it. Thanks DrLYSS and Ami. I'm pretty psyched about the interview, I was ready to accept my non-acceptance!

Hey, I rescheduled mine for about two weeks after the last date indicated. They were very accomodating. You should have no problem. Good luck! 👍

Like many of you I'm still holding out for an interview (complete since July) but still no rejection mailed status update. However, I sent them an in the area email a while back and they responded with "we're still reviewing your app and can't interview you then" Obviously since then people have gotten interviews during that time frame (and likely complete after me since I submitted so early). Does this mean I'm going to get the boot? Has anyone been turned down for an in the area email and then gotten the status update? Thanks a bunch.

I sent one of those emails and got the response that you did. But afterward, I got an invite. You never know.

Does anyone know what the grading system is at Cornell? Or even better, a link to the part of the website that has that info? Maybe I'm completely missing it, but I just can't seem to find it. Thanks!

I believe it is H/P/F for the first two years with the top 20% (?) getting honors

Grading during the preclinical years is as follows: Honors, Pass, Fail.

This is an excerpt from the "Student Evaluation" section of the Human Structure and Function course (first year):

"Students are expected to have a satisfactory performance in all parts of the course (PBL/JC, lectures, and laboratories), in each subject of the course (Anatomy-Radiology, Developmental Biology and Embryology Histology, Physiology, ), and on the Triple-Jump Exam. Exceptional, satisfactory, or unsatisfactory performance in the course as a whole will receive honors, pass, or fail grades, respectively, according to WCMC rules. "Honors grade" will be given to approximately the top 20% of the class. "Fail grade" will be given to those students with an average less than 65% of the maximal grade of the course. Students with a “fail grade” will be required to satisfactorily complete a make up exam by the end of summer to be promoted to the second year. Unsatisfactory performance (less than 65% of the maximal grade) in any of the evaluation components (PBL-Journal Club, Physiology, Anatomy-Radiology, Development Biology/Embryology Histology, and Triple Jump Exam) will receive a grade "marginal". This "marginal" grade must be removed by satisfactory performance in make-up tests, exams, or other form of examinations on the subject matter by end of the summer of the first year for the student to be permitted to advance to the second year."

Anyone else really like the term "Triple-Jump"? 😀

It's probably getting really close to the date where they offer their last batch of interviews, but I wouldn't lose hope just yet. Just be prepared-- as always-- to hope for the best while expecting the worst! I WILL CROSS MY FINGERS FOR YOU! :xf:

LoL I just hope it is as cool as it sounds. I'm still not 100% sure I fully understand it.

Yeah, it sounds like a cool, Cornell-only tradition/process which makes it sexy in my eyes. I'll probably hate them if I end up going there, though.

So I think it pretty much entails the following, but I might be completely wrong:

First Jump: Given a clinical case (like every PBL session) and you research and come up with some possible answers.
Second Jump: You meet with your professor who gives you some suggestions and points you in the right direction.
Third Jump: You present your final answers to your professor via oral exam.

That sounds decidedly unfun.

From what I remember during my interview there, most students said they weren't that bad. Wouldn't you rather this type of test where you are given a chance to correct your answers rather than a sit-down, smack-down?

it sounds weird & scary... but the students I talked to seemed to really like it. Maybe a Cornell student would shed more light...

So my interview is on Thursday and I have no idea what to expect. How's the vibe at Cornell? Is it pretty chill? Do I need to break out my Scientific American magazine and read a few articles? LOL...

I just got back from my easy @$$ Boston interview so I don't wanna be too relaxed for Cornell. Oh yeah, is it open file or closed? And is it a big deal if I don't have the 2 x 2 photo they said they wanted?

it's open. my interviewer had my application sitting in front of him.

If they are asking for it, I'd get the photo. Why risk not getting it? Just go to CVS and get a passport picture; it's super quick and costs only a few bucks.

I actually prefer the sit-down, smack down. Know exactly what to expect and it's totally objective.

Yeah you're so right. I've come this far and I'm complaining about a little photo? God I need help. LOL

i'm interviewing there tomorrow, anybody have any last minute tips?

don't be nervous & be yourself. They are really nice & I got the feeling they just wanted to get to know me more than grilling me or anything like that. I only got pretty standard questions. Relax and you will shine! :luck:

ALSO, if you get a medical student interviewer, don't blow it off! They count just as much!

ALSO, ask LOTS of questions about Cornell. If you REALLY want to go there, make sure that your interviewer knows. This isn't a time to be shy or hesitant-- BE honest and enthusiastic and make it obvious that you love it there.

ALSO, good luck! 😀

I didn't know they had student interviewers... hmm good to know 🙂

Complete since late August and still no interview. I wonder if this is the end or if I should cave in and call.

Send an "in the area" email and they might respond! They didn't for me. They just said something lame like "a decision hasn't been made at this point." However, many other SDNers have been successful with this tactic.

let me know what you decide to do, because im in the same situation!

So I happened to be in NYC this past Monday and I couldn't resist stopping by Cornell and saying hello to the admissions office staff. I thanked Dean Montano repeatedly for having been accepted and then I asked her where the bookstore was so that I could buy a Weill Cornell shirt! I got one, but I'm sad I can't wear it around campus because fellow applicants would probably get angry.

by far Cornell has one of the best book stores. Their shirts are hysterical. This is the one I got over the summer:

im sorry guys 🙁 i didn't even know they sent out rejections before March

i still have the complete and under review message... i wonder what thateven means now. on hold?

i just interviewed there today and loved it so much. I don't know how I could be happy with anything else at this point which is pretty sad considering the only outrightly accept about 1/7 of interviewees. I don't know how i'm going to wait until march.

That's exactly how I felt about Columbia except I've been waiting for March to come since October. It totally sucks to feel like there's nothing else you can do... Send a letter of intent if you're really serious about. It may or may not help, but it's not going to hurt!

Best of luck! :luck: I really hope you're accepted - you deserve your first choice!

My status was changed to "decision has been mailed to you" in the last couple of days.
Bummer, I though I might get an invite since it didn't change when people kept posting about the above status change in December

For people who are getting interviews right now, what are the interview dates available?

I'm with you... are they just holding on to our applications to taunt us, or is an interview actually a possibility?

Anybody else still have the complete status?

i think interview is not really a possibility now. anyone know when they stop interviewing?

i still have that status and i have been complete since mid sept.....still no interview???

so if it says an admissions decision has been sent to me, could that be an interview invite or is it definitely a rejection? i'm not familiar with how cornell notifies applicants of invites

i think it's probably a rejection... interviews are not "admissions decisions."

Unfortunately it's almost definitely a rejection. Interview invites arrive via email.

Sorry. 🙁

Thanks for the info...I haven't been following this thread because I was thinking Cornell was just a wish. Just got the update status today so it must be a rejection coming in the mail because I haven't interviewed there yet (ok...never will!)
