Anyone still doing the secondary for this school? 😳

Heh, should I bother sending in, or just save my hundred 100 bucks.

Btw, I heard the average GPA is 3.7 and MCAT is 33...isn't this the same for Tufts?

I vote you save your money. I just finished interviewing at Dartmouth and I can definitely say that I wasn't very impressed. I am a california resident and after seeing the Hanover life, I don't think I could live there for four years. The school is great and all, but the curriculum was subpar compared to some of the other schools I have interviewed at, and they didn't have any of the electronic benefits (podcasted lectures, video taped this and that, online path slides, etc etc). Whatever though, it was a good 3-day vacation.

Dartmouth is definitely a fit school. It has a relatively small class in a very secluded hamlet in the New England countryside. But even from California and despite the cold, I could definitely seem myself there. The faculty, administration, and students all seemed incredibly motivated to make the experience worthwhile.

I'll agree that the curriculum is more intensive than at a lot of other places, but they definitely do have at least podcast lectures and digital microscopy, and they make up for older facilities by having one of the more engaged faculty teaching the students that I've seen so far.

Why is the curriculum "subpar" or "intensive"? I haven't interviewed there yet but I found these comments interesting.

I'd disagree with subpar, but they obviously value the lecture time and offer a lot of in class opportunities to learn, which isn't necessarily true other places. I didn't get an exact schedule when I went, but from what I gathered, they have lecture from 8-12pm every day, sometimes lectures until 1pm, then labs and PBL-type small group sections in the afternoons. On some days they go out into the community for a preceptorship program, but regardless, they tend to finish late in the afternoon almost every day. The curriculum itself is organ-system based, but they duplicate it with normal function in year 1 and pathophysiology in year 2. They also transition the testing by having quizzes every 2 weeks, then every 3 weeks, then every block by the second year, but that's not a whole lot different from a lot of other schools.

It also seems like all their students are highly engaged with community work or research and don't waste a lot of free time during the day, which is interesting, but not something I can really attribute to anything Dartmouth does - it may be the students' personalities or it may be the lack of things to do in Hanover.

Did anyone ever get a "complete" email? My online status says my 2ndary app has been received and is in process, and I have a green light on all the app materials. Does this mean I'm officially complete, or did everyone also get an email?

All green=complete, no separate email sent.

Sorry to hear that 🙁 How did they break the bad news? E-mail? Status change? Obnoxious voicemail?

Thin, creamy-white envelope via the sweet old post man. Dated, 11/6. According to the rejection thread, I'm the first, how lovely.

Good luck to all still in the game 👍

👎I'm right there with you Scean. Same thing today, dated 11/6.

Sorry to hear about the first rejections🙁

I guess I can expect to get mine soon:scared:

Good luck to everyone!

I'm also a CA resident who interviewed at Dartmouth and I loved the school. The curriculum is reasonable, the hospital is amazing, and I wouldn't mind living in Hanover...

damn!! I didnt check the mail today. Maybe if I never check it the rejection is void and i am automatically accepted? I enjoyed my interview day there as well, although it was a pretty short stay.

But hey all, keep in mind that they send acceptance letters in the mail too! So if you see a darmtouth letter in the mail dont get too depressed until you actually read whats inside!

p.s. i was just coming on to this thread to ask if anyone knew when they were going to be rejecting people post interview......weird! Kind of an erie coincidence and i dont have a good feeling! But im really glad I saw this thread b/c if I would have seen the dartmouth letter i woulda thought i was accepted cuz i didnt know they were rejecting people yet.......man that woulda sucked.

I haven't gotten the bad news...yet. 🙁 I hope it's not in the mail, but I suspect it is.

I had the same suspicions with UCSF....unfortunately I was right. I kinda got the hint when I caleld to check on my status and the lady I was talking to wanted to make absolutely sure she had my address correct (i knew they were mailing rejections).

*sigh* Oh well.......i hope your gut feeling is wrong!

Scean and Poiu86, when were you complete?

I was complete sometime in mid-August and just got an interview invite yesterday. For those of you still waiting, all hope is not lost!

Thanks and congrats!

If I was complete in late September, it looks like 2009 at the earliest...

Dartmouth seems to be taking there time with all of us..Its been 8 weeks since my interveew and not a sign.

At least they hate us all equally.

I'm with you on that one, we interviewed the same day and I havent heard anything. But we can't say they didn't warn us. They were very upfront about their process and said we potentially have the longest wait out of any interviewees.

So if my interview is on 12/4, will I know before March?

i was figuring i would get a letter with all these other rejections but still no sign. Has anybody here gotten an interview invite recently? I heard from 5 schools two weeks ago (3 interviews, 2 rejections) but dartmouth is still 1 of 7 schools that hasn't told me anything.

I was complete end of July. Got an invite in October.

Haha the irony (well more like coincidence)--I got my acceptance by mail today which included a hand-written note from the dean congratulating me. I'd be willing to trade this acceptance for one at ANY california med school.. any takers?

Wouldn't it be nice if it worked that way...

Lol congrats anyway! If there's any justice in this process, you'll get accepted to your top choice in cali so your spot opens up for one of us that hearts the cold.

When did you interview? Like what day exactly 🙂

Hey, I got accepted to Dartmouth n i'm just wondering if there is anything that i shld be doing apart from accepting my acceptance. N anyone got any info about scholarship stuff there?
PM w any info pls

I received an email reminder that I still hadn't bothered to send in my secondary. I totally forgot about it. It's so late in the game already, why would they even bother sending out reminders? 🙄

I don't understand why no one else is talking about this school. I just came back from an interview there and it absolutely blew me away. Going in, I looked at it as an okay choice if I didn't get into a few other schools I had already interviewed at, but it's basically the best place I've visited so far. Stunning campus, gorgeous area, amazing opportunities. The school is an absolute gem, marred apparently by it's lower-than-Ivy US News ranking.

How often do they add scores to applicants?
