how does waitlisting at hopkins work?

I think they wait until May to see how many people accept their spots, then they start pulling people off the waitlist. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong?

is there a ranked waitlist? or is it random how they pick ppl off the waitlist? just tryin to see how good of a chance of gettin admitted is off the waitlist...

I believe I heard that 50 ppl were taken off the waitlist last year? You can write a letter of interest if you've been waitlisted. I assume it'll help to show them that you're genuinely interested in remaining on the waitlist.

Out of curiousity, what is considered a course of humanities or social sciences? I know that Hopkins requires 24 credit hours, but am not sure what electives to add to fulfill it.

Non-science courses I imagine. I took Macro and Microeconomics, Writing, Midwest Lit, and Arabic Lit before my senior year, and they said on Oct 14th that I met all of their course requirements

Sounds good to me! I was considering doing a double minor along with my major. I won't worry as much about it now. Thanks!

anyone interviewed on the first week of nov get any notifications yet??

does anyone konw if they are going ot be sending out some more decisions before winter recess?

is it safe to assume i've been waitlisted/rejected if i haven't gotten a call yet? and it's been over a month? wut a bummer...

Congrats to everybody who's been accepted! Please post all your acceptances on the acceptances threads so people can get a sense of the timeline. It's super helpful for this year and next year's applicants!

Thanks!

I got an acceptance call from Dean Hicks yesterday (Friday) morning!!!.... I'm soooo excited about this.

Good luck to all of you waiting... if you're curious I interviewed middle of November.

Congrats to all accepted!!! Will you be attending Dr. Drummer?

Hey! So I also got the Hopkins phone call acceptance on Dec 19th (interviewed Nov 6th or so). I'm pretty sure that's where I'll end up, but I have a few more places to interview still. Is anyone else who has heard back also seriously considering going?

Congrats! Add yourself to the Acceptance thread 🙂

I think there's a hopkins 2013 thread on the allo forum. Vadd and Tupacalipse and a few others are probably on there.

Hi everyone! I was just wondering whether anyone knew for certain whether Hopkins is switching to pass/fail next year (and any other changes they are making). Is there some website that has posted this decision or is it just hearsay for now and we can find out more at second look or something like that?

Thanks!!

on my interview day, the 4th yrs and adcoms said that they had passed the motion to make it p/f for yrs one and two...

hopkins got 1 x 10^100 times sexier 👍

What grading system was Hopkins on prior to this change? Honors/High Pass/Pass/Fail I'm assuming?

congrats to those who got accepted!

i am completed on Oct.30 but haven't heard anything from them. Is it normal? usually how long is the gap between complete and interview invite? thanks!

Totally agree! I was thrilled to hear that. That was the one thing I didn't like when I visited.

ditto

does anyone know how hopkins deals w/ pre-interview letters of interest? also, who to send them to? thanks

Does anyone know if Hopkins is still sending out interview invitations? I have been complete since August. 🙁

I was complete a bit late (October...) , and I was wondering if they are still giving out interviews too.

Any thoughts? This thread doesn't seem that active

Does anyone know if they are still granting interviews?

I just called in and got a automated message. I don't know if they are still giving interviews, but the message said that the interview season goes until mid-March.

Also if you want to speak to a real person the message said that call in times are Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays 2-4 PM. Here is the number: 410-955-3182.

How do you if you are waitlisted or rejected? Do you get an email or does it come in via snail? I interviewed before christmas and I reckon that it is about time for me to hear from them. I

I have no idea but I think that I was rejected. I asked if would be offered an interview and whether I could schedule when I would be in the area ( i am coming from across the country). The lady looked me up and said that I was not marked for an interview. Then I asked her about an update letter and she said that we are not encouraged to send anything else in .. haha. then I was about to ask her when we find out about the last interviews and she cut me off and said that reject letters are sent out in april.

hahahhaa. REJECTED!

i personally think calling admissions will annoy them..considering how many calls they get everyday! so let's just be patient and wait. if it's a rejection it's a rejection. call them wouldn't help.

I'm counting on SDN now, hopefully someone who gets recent interviews would post here.

and still keep some hope, no news sometimes is good news🙂

Just thought I'd help people out since I think I have the most recent invite. I got an invite at the very end of December (I got the complete confirmation 10/30). Not quite a month ago but hopefully they're still giving some out. I just got a Mt. Sinai invite a few days ago so all hope is not lost if you haven't heard.

Hi all,
Just a quick question. Is it absolutely true Hopkins gives no merit-based aid or scholarships? I have a significant achievement I was thinking of updating them with (post-acceptance, kinda weird I know) but won't bother if it won't influence the $$! Thanks everyone and good luck to those still waiting to hear!

Yeah, I definitely remember Dean Hicks saying there was no merit aid when I interviewed.

Where did you hear this? I always heard the opposite. I hope you are right.

Well, the Hopkins need-based aid goes like this:

You pay your EFC (determined from FAFSA and NeedAccess etc).

You take out a mandatory loan of about $20,500.

Hopkins covers everything else (Tuition/Fees + CostofLiving).

If you're frugal with the CoL portion of the scholarship, (assuming that you were needy enough to get one in the first place,) you can use it to pay down some of the mandatory loan.

When I interviewed, a few students told me that there was some sort of glitch with the finaid last year. (There's more detail in the Hopkins 2013 Allo thread.) This may be what you heard too. But, in general, Hopkins average graduating debt is significantly lower than that of most other schools.

So...when did you interview What up doc? I interviewed on 01/09 and have been eagerly awaiting any news...

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to view last year's acceptance thread?

i interviewed in early dec. it's been a very, very long wait. but it was sooo worth it. but now i got a huge decision 2 make. 20k in loans apparently or a full-cost-of-attendance scholarship to umd...i was gonna start a thread but that is played out...besides, i think the advice of practicing physicians is prolly more adequate....

That's crazy that you had to wait so long, I saw on the acceptance thread that someone who interviewed 12/11 heard 01/16.

Regardless, Congrats!
