Copingmethods, do they mean interview invites begin 9/19 or the actual interviews themselves?

oh dear...that means they are sending out invites soon (especially since they started 8/16 last year). I hope I don't get a rejection...

I guess they started sending out invites, because I got mine today. There's another person listed on the interview thread, too.

I'm very pleased to have gotten an interview, but I just am wondering: what is it about this school, that everything's in such a rush?? This was the only secondary I had that required everything, including LORs (and mine are sent by mail) to be in within 14 days.

Now, with the interview, they give a choice of 4 dates, all by the end of September (yes, the earliest is the 19th), and tell me that I must schedule it immediately, or "within the next day or so."

I mean, it's wonderful to have been selected for an interview, and I guess I shouldn't be complaining at all. But, I mean, I am still attending college this fall, and since I have at least 3 other schools in that area of the country that I have yet to hear from . . . I need some time, to see if I can make this a little more expedient than just picking up mid-week and going to chicago.

Is that unreasonable? How does everyone else anticipate having to deal with these scheduling issues? I guess I probably shouldn't even anticipate having that many interviews to deal with . . . but I sure would feel better if I could wait to hear back from those other three.

I guess I'll be calling the "interview coordinator" tomorrow to ask about it. I hope this didn't sound obnoxious or conceited of me, I'm just honestly a little concerned about time and money this semester.

It seems like they just do everything in waves for efficiency/speed purposes. It may suck that we don't have the luxury of taking our times with things, but I'm sure it helps them a lot to know how everything's going to be scheduled. Why not just schedule for the last date?

Out of curiosity, when was your secondary due date? Mine was the 5th but I understand some where the 1st.

words words words

Unfortunately, to Feinberg you are one of thousands they could be interviewing and as such, you must follow their rules to the T. In buyer's market you have almost zero pull and to tell you the truth you will most likely have to do what you feared and drop all in the middle of your semester in order to head out to chicago.

Honestly I wish I could schedule all my (potential) interviews in a 2-3 week block and to save on airfare, time, money, stress, etc. Alas, this is the real world and we will just have to play by the adcom's rules.

As for how I will handle this situation, I just hope I will have accrued enough vacation hours at my job so that I can bolt out of here any day of the week and not get **** from my boss.

Look on the bright side though: I still haven't heard from Feinberg about an interview, so I'd say you are sitting mighty pretty where you are.

yep, you guys are right. I returned to reality, and (very happily) scheduled the interview.

" .non-academic activity which has been formative."

.
.Does this include organizational involvement such as fraternities or student orgs? Anyone write about those?

I did. It's not academic and formative, so why on Earth not?👍

At least there were choices, Penn State just sends out an email telling you when your interview date is. I called them to reschedule, and the secretary said the AdCom will have to decide on another date for me.

Okay my last essay is 407 words, 2510 characters...it didnt cut me off or anything and it allowed me to move on (i went back and checked and it was all still there), think that means i'm good to go? Did any of you actually get cut off?

The MSTP was a word document, so there was no cut-off for me.

I don't know about the regular MD secondary though. I wouldn't go above the limit in any case.

Hi all,
I have a question about Q#3

Describe your experiences away from traditional educational pursuits, such as travel or time spent in the work force (other than summer or part-time employment). Specify the time frame. If you have been in school continuously, then describe a non-academic activity which has been formative.

Do you think they want the basic "I have been working in lab X for 2 years, investigating Y" or "living on my own and earning a paycheck has allowed me to realize A, B, and C about myself"? In case you can't tell, this is my big application weekend and I'm getting a bit fed up with describing the moral I learned from every minute experience in my life...

Thanks in advance!

I wrote about my experiences playing music. maybe write about something you do for fun?

So, checking my status page at NW, I have found I am no longer approved to enter the site. Is anyone else experiencing technical difficulties or is this Northwestern's 'polite' way of rejection?

My university uses Interfolio, and I have five total letters plus a committee letter. So question 1, can I submit my normal packet that I've been submitting to all the schools, but do it by paper rather than electronically, or can I only submit 3?

Question 2, if I can only submit 3, is it 3 plus committee letter, or 3 including committee letter?

And finally, if it's only 3, does it need to be specific types of professors? My best 3 are a non-science, a science, and a doctor I worked for. So would that combo work?

Thanks!

my letters were sent by VirtualEvals on 8/8 and my status page says awaiting letters...anyone else had a 3+ week delay on letters? is it time to call them?

I'm still able to login, but I'm sure it's just a technical glitch, not a rejection! dont worry =)

I was good about an hour ago. Now, same error as you.

Yeah. If you look earlier in this thread, I had the exact same problem as you did. I emailed a couple times until they referred me to the person who is in charge of downloading recommendations from VE. Apparently they are/were having issues with VE. I would go ahead and contact them.

ohh i didnt read far enough back. thanks!!

Did anyone call about not being able to log into the site? I just tried but it's after 5 so noone answered.

I called them and the person I spoke with ignored my question about the login message but told me that I was "under review."

I was able to login but it says I'm under review as well.

Lol, in case anyone is wondering, the date of your deadline gives you until midnight YOUR TIME, not their time...luckily for me I guess..

yep, also unable to log in.

Figured this problem out. They close you out of the secondary site when you submit, but you still have access to the secure applicant site:

https://medicalapp.northwestern.edu/index.cfm

I was complete on 8/22 also, and I'm checking up on the interview thread. Do they do invites in batches? Saw that someone got on interview on 9/2

That's the page giving us all the error.

Interestingly, check this out.

Silly NW, making their error messages editable in the url. I wish...

More realistically, I wonder if this error is better explained by this

Haha, you definitely had me going! :meanie:

Sorry I couldn't help. I had the secondary entry site bookmarked, and it closed me out of that, but I'm not having any issues with secure applicant site.

I like the first "error" message - it boosts my confidence a bit.

Anyone have any ideas?

Any updates about this not being able to log in?

I just called and spoke with someone in admissions. Although I can not log in online (no access error), my file is still under consideration. I also asked why the online status was not working for me, they weren't sure. They did mention that the online status only shows if you're complete and under review, and the interviews are sent through e-mail.

i can't login anymore either, hopefully this doesn't mean i'm rejected 🙁
