Certainly possible to wait that long. I am still waiting for most of my schools (not Tufts)
id say that means you were passed over on the first review. i was complete on sept 23 and called them to check on my status and they said my app had been reviewed, no intvite extended, but will be reviewed again in a month

oh so, they have a hold. but no one has been rejected yet, so everyone is put on hold? jeez this process is confusing.

Submitted my secondary two months after getting it, and it's been complete two weeks now. I know I shouldn't expect an invite soon, but should I just write it off, since I was so late and my stats are screwy (3.3GPA, though 40Q MCAT)?

I'm posting this here because Tufts is my top choice, and I desperately, desperately want to go there. If anyone can think of anything I can do (sending research updates, etc.) to increase my chances, could you please let me know?

I was complete September 18th or so, and still haven't heard either way... has anyone had to wait over a month to find out and still get an interview?

I actually have 3 friends who got interviews in the last few weeks after having been complete since late August/early September. So I think if you get passed over the first time, they really do give you a second look!! Good luck!!

It's true. I submitted Aug 29, was considered complete Sept 11 and just got an interview on Nov 7.

The only problem is that the only available interviews at this point are in Feb 🙁 That concerns me a bit. But I am uber thankful to have got an interview. I was not expecting it at all.

eta- Just found an open date for Jan 8th! I'm going to keep checking hoping something opens in december.

hey!

i am interviewing at tufts later this week. does anyone know if the two interviews are open/closed file and who they are typically with? also, does anyone have advice? i already checked the "interview feed back" page, so i guess im just looking for personal advice from your experiences here.

i'm really looking forward to the interview and am excited about the school. i want to do my best for this one.

thanks!

they are open file. mine were two doctors but i think it was that because students werent ready to interview yet? i dont know if it will still be 2 doctors or one doctor and a student

My interviewers were one doctor and one 4th year student. The doctor was friendly but a little interrogational. The student interview was very relaxed and non-stressful. I know most people had 2 doctors conducting their interviews.

If you are preparing to interview, make sure you know your file well. Both of my interviewers had obviously looked over my application and had pointed questions about my past experiences.

There is one interviewer who notoriously asks difficult, philosophical questions (I'm sure you've seen this if you've looked over the interview feedback). A 4th year said not to worry too much if you get him; he's just trying to see if you can talk somewhat coherently in a stressful situation....but I'm still glad I didn't get him!

Good luck!

For those of you who have been accepted, have you received an acknowledgement of your deposit yet?

Neeeeeeevermind, just got the confirmation.

Also, as for interviews. I had 2 doctors. One had clearly read my app VERY closely and asked much more specific questions, but was really chill. The other guy was a little stiffer, but just asked me to talk about my experiences. Nothing difficult.

I had the stressful/philosophical interviewer and it was honestly fun in hindsight...I had been warned ahead of time by other students, so I went in with the mentality that I just needed to stay calm. The questions were definitely a bit out there, but you could tell that he was just trying to see your thought process. I got in, so I'm hoping I dealt with it well!

congrats to everyone who has been accepted =) Does anyone know if Tufts responds to in the area e-mails. I'm going to be in Boston in late January...

Congrats fellow acceptees. Has anybody gotten any emails after the immunization packets? has anybody sent the immunization info yet? Is there anything I'm supposed to do after sending the deposit and before January (fin aid)?

From Tufts own F.A.Q.:
"We review applications (and select applicants for interview) in the order in which the applications become complete. Our interview season extends from September until March, and an invitation to interview with us is good from the time it is issued until the end of our interview season. We extend open-ended invitations to help applicants consolidate a visit to Tufts with visits to other schools in our area. Unfortunately, we cannot extend an applicant any special or priority treatment due to travel plans."

So I'm guessing not, but they are so friendly there I don't think they would hold it against you for trying.

Yea, I sent an "in the area" e-mail...they weren't too responsive, just said they'll add it to my file.

Accepted 11/29!

I am still waiting. KEEK were you also MD/MPH like nina?

Nope, I am just an MD applicant. Good luck!

does anyone know if tufts accepts LOInterest? if so, by email/mail

Yeah, I think they do. At the interview day they said all contact should be done by e-mail, so I'm guessing that's your best bet. Call them if you are wondering though, the admissions people are really nice.

Yea, I got an e-mail. I have been placed on the active consideration list. I really like Tufts and I hope that something works out for me in the end.

I am glad that I was not rejected. At least I still have a chance. I have not found anyone in the SDN archives that have been rejected. So, I hope that active consideration does not equal reject.

I am still waiting. KEEK were you also MD/MPH like nina?

I was first admitted to regular MD, and said that I was still interested in MD/MPH on my acceptance confirmation letter...then I got the MD/MPH acceptance about 3 weeks later!! So it seems like everyone gets the main MD acceptance first.

Good luck!

Sooo...I have an interview in early January, but I am debating whether it makes sense to attend. I have already been accepted at UMass, and the schools rank similarly, but UMass is a ton less expensive...

Does anyone know if Tufts is reasonable with financial aid? or do people generally get saddled with the entirety of their tuition?

I ask because although its easy for me to get to the interview, since I am from Mass, I am not sure if its even worth it without financial aid, since it is so freaking expensive

Thoughts?

from Tuft's financial aid presentation was that there wasn't much aid (beyond loans)available.

In words quoted directly from their presentation:

-"institutitonal scholarship/loan funds are available but limited" and
-to "assume financial need is met with loans =debt"

The estimated student budget for 2008-2009 is as follows:

1st Year: 70,533 (including cost of living, $48,386 for tuition alone).

Hope this helps and congrats on your UMass acceptance!

Who else is going? I made a class thread.

Hello! Wow, its apparently been awhile since I've visited this thread...look at all these successful SDNers!! Congrats on your acceptances!!!!!

So I have an interview at Tufts 😍on Tuesday which I am completely psyched about and will be staying with a host student the night before. I've read over the interview feedback page (thank you for those who have posted...very helpful!), but would really appreciate any last minute advice! (especially concerning the notorious philosophically oriented interviewer....I'm planning on reading over some ethics/bioethics on the ride down to Tufts. Good idea? Bad idea? Any other ideas?)

Also, will I have the pleasure of meeting any of you SDNers on Tuesady?

Congrats again to all of those with acceptances and interview invites! Send me good vibessssss!!!!😀😀

I wouldn't stress about the Tufts interview. There's only one guy who hits hard with the crazy ethical questions, but my friend had him and as long as you can reason well, he doesn't seem to care. (Also, the one thing he will do is ask you at least 1 question in any language you said you could speak on your application!) But the 2 interviewers I had were really nice. One was very informal and said he wanted the whole thing to be relaxed. Don't worry, chances are you won't get Mr. Philosophy. Good luck!! :luck:

If I were to put down that I am interested in an MD/MPH program on the letter of intent that would go back to Tufts, do I need to do any additional work (personal statements, application fees, etc.) if I already was accepted to the traditional MD program?

Yup. There's a separate MD/MPH application on the website that has 2 extra essays. No additional application fee though!

does anybody know if they actually accept applicants from the "active consideration" pool during interview season. the email says that they do, but i haven't found any instances on here through the archives. additionally, are people rejected post-interview before the wait list is formed? i also have not found any body on sdn rejected post-interview, pre-spring.

i was placed on the ac list and am trying to figure out how it all works.

just got an invite =) (complete 9/12) earliest interview was in the 2nd week of Feb

Congratulations on the invite DRLyss! Your psychadelic avatar seems to be wherever I go.. I've been haunting the Pitt thread (just got waitlisted), GW thread (still waiting to hear from 10/14), and now Tufts (interviewed last Thursday). Looks like we've got the same taste... hopefully the schools will like us as much as we liked them...

PS: Tufts was great - I'm sure you'll love it - good luck!

Congrats on the recent interviews all!!! Tufts was fantastic, I interviewed in early Nov. and was accepted in early Dec. I fully intend to be their in the fall and I second the opinion that you'll love it. For any of you that have been accepted, how long did it take for you to get an acknowledgement that they received your deposit? Sending things through regular mail always gets me nervous!

Look forward to meeting you! I mailed my deposit and got confirmation three days later.

Thanks! I called the admissions office and they said they had received it. I guess I'll be seeing you there.

Hi pentadoc--yes--doing the maine track--are you?

I think it will be a really interesting program and MMC seemed like a really great place to train... interested to know what others who are considering the program thought...

Congrats on your acceptance! I recently interviewed at both MMC and TUSM. How did you get accepted? Was it just one letter? Or do you get accepted to tufts and then to the track? I guess I could call, too🙂

got a call from the dean of admissions at Tufts, no letters yet--

what did you think of the Maine track shnuffles?

Hello, all! I'm considering going to Tufts as well. They were SO NICE there it was incredible. I mean, how many schools call, email, AND send a letter to accept you? It's like a communications party.

I was extremely impressed by MMCs facilities and everyone's enthusiasm about the program. The big downside I see is having to commute back and forth to Maine every two weeks for the first two years...that sounds really draining! But they do seem very willing to work with the incoming class to make it run as smoothly as possible, so I guess I shouldn't worry too much about it. Your thoughts? Are you from ME?
