Just so everyone knows, I got the info. by calling the school, so its not a rumor! They also said it could either be a phone call or a letter which only makes me want to go even crazier. Further adding to the madness, I dropped my phone in a toilet last night, so I really hope they don't try calling....

call or a letter?
that makes me wonder if a call brings more favorable news than a letter

Dropped your phone in a toilet?

That sucks...but is funny at the same time.

I don't know if you can draw any conclusions about a letter. I think that if your Adcomm member is busy working a shift, then I don't think they will take time to call you . . . just a thought.

Yeah, plus I feel like they have told us all so many different and sometimes conflicting things at this point that it probably doesn't help to draw any of our own conclusions.

And I wish I could say its the first time ive dropped my phone in a toilet but its not. Sigh.

was it in your back pocket? i've done that... sorry

I hope the toilet was in "pre-use" condition....

if sent today, we probably wont get it until next Monday, no?

it depends. everything in the durham, raleigh, chapel hill area is overnight through the USPS, so if they are sent out today and you live nearby, you could hear tomorrow.....

sorry about the phone, that's a bummer and surprisingly common, hopefully the good news makes up for it!

joni made it sound like they were not being mailed today

If I wasn't so scared they'd chew me out for asking, I'd just call and see if they'll tell me today since they already know the decision.

Someone should bite the bullet and call them up for information. . . I'm over my limit already.

If you are going to UNC and live in the area ...

A friend of mine who is a current student forwarded this email to me:

The MS4 class will be holding a book sale to unload all of their books that they have accumulated over the past 4+ years including first and second year textbooks, step 1 study books, clerkship books, and step 2 review books. It will take place all next week March 30-April 3rd from 12-1 PM in the medical student applicant room in Bondurant located just behind the Office of Student Affairs.

Prices will be dirt cheap so come eager to buy. Please bring either cash (exact change only) or a check book.

We look forward to seeing you!

PS- At the end of the sale, some of the books that do not sell will be donated. If you know of or are part of an organization that would be interested in these books, please contact me at [email protected].

anyone sign up for franklin street afterwards?

when i spoke with joni at 9:30 this morning, she wouldn't give out any info other than letters would be out by the end of the month...
i think they're pretty sick of people calling...

Yeah - I feel bad for Joni and Randee. Last time I called (maybe 2 weeks ago) before I could even finish my sentence, I got "you know how many calls we've gotten asking the same question?"

As stressful this is for all of us, I bet to be on their end taking calls from obsessive and stressed applicants asking the same question is rough.

After the letters go out, I bet they are going to get even more calls with waitlist-related questions.

They are getting paid for this though . . . I'm sure customer service is in their job description.

...entitled much?

Entitled . . . hardly. I am just a guy with 3 bosses, 100 clients (each with managers) who all want to know when their case will be completed. In business, you can't show irritation when you are asked the same question over and over again. It's not professional and you are getting paid to provide a service.

Ehh... well I wonder how long mail takes to get to Charlotte from UNC...

I was curious if someone who has been accepted already could check a link that was posted on last year's thread:

applicantcentral.unc.edu

I put in my information and it doesn't really say anything other than a general statement about admissions... I was wondering if it actually says "Accepted" for someone who has been accepted already....

I have no idea if this part of UNC's website even has anything to do with med school admissions, but I was just curious...

It shouldn't say anything considering that website specifically says that the site is only applicable to undergraduate admissions and not graduate admissions.

Dear Chubby,

Thank you for logging into Applicant Central at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. We have identified the following services that are currently available to you. To use these services, please click on the icon below. Again, thank you for visiting.

[FONT=Times New Roman, Serif]If you apply for admission to the university, you may receive access to services through Applicant Central at various points after you submit your application. The presence or absence of links to specific services on your portal within Applicant Central does not indicate that you have been or will be admitted. Admission decisions are communicated only in writing and only by the respective admissions office.

"Please Note: If you are applying for undergraduate freshman or transfer admission, this site does not provide information about your admissions status; please visit www.admissions.unc.edu instead."

I think its for the graduate school actually... or maybe its not for anything anymore.

I have no idea what it is for but I don't think it is of any use. I think everyone needs to just take a deep breath and relax, this thread is highly stressful. At this point, I am almost certain that all letters will be for only waitlist or rejections. If you think about, even if the class had been filled, they wouldn't tell you that over the phone because that would indicate that you obviously are rejected or waitlisted; and they certainly don't want a hundred people calling to find out they have been rejected.

oh so you go to UNCC then.....right?

I can't wait for that letter no matter what it says. I just want to freakin' know already.

Yep... the biggest football-less school in the state... (at least for now anyway...)

This too is my third time applying for medical school and I have yet to get in anywhere. I'm never getting in, am I? 🙁

No mail from UNC today. I live less than 20 miles from CH.

well i suppose it comes as no surprise that NYers didnt get it in the mail today either.

For those who went to second look today...was there any mention of if any seats are left to be given out, or any status about the letters?

Nah they didnt say anything, but alot of people seemed undecided on a medical school so i expect waitlist movt.

Most people that I talked to were pretty set on UNC.
You didnt have anyone introduce themselves like this?:

"Hello im 'insert name'. so are you set on UNC?"

Me: For the most part, but I cant say 100% yet.

Them: "O ok, yeah im still deciding between Hopkins, Stanford and here"

..ummm ok?

But, I agree the majority were set, but there were a decent amount, from what ive seen, that are still deciding.

Hilarious. I had at least 3 people say the same thing (insert Duke, Vandy, Dartmouth, UCSF, Harvard, JHU). Douchery, IMO

Well if I end up on the waitlist, I hope they choose somewhere else!

By the way, for waitlists, will the school give you an idea of where you stand on the waitlist?

I think if they voluntarily gave you that information, without asking "o ok, so what other schools are you deciding between?" Then it is definitely leaning towards douchery.

*most ppl seemed pretty cool though, and I was very impressed with how much the administration wants you to have a life outside of medical school.

Yeah, that's what I meant. If had said, "oh yeah, where else are you looking?" it would be one thing. But I had several people come out and tell me like I actually cared.

But, on the whole, I was pretty impressed with the people there. I had several people (from Duke UG) say that it was amazing how "on-nerdy" the people seemed. That's probably one of the top 3 reasons I cannot wait to go to UNC.

anybody on here go to hams and los pos afterwards?

I agree that most everyone seemed pretty chill. It will be a great class.

The administration seemed great. Dr. Bashford is hilarious!

yeah he was, I can just picture him screaming at the top of his lungs in the Duke hotel. LOL. I didn't make past the lunch, I had an appt. to go to for housing but what did you guys do during "getting to know you"? I cannot wait to go to school there btw.

Yes, Mr. Keith is amazing. He has been sick and still works so hard to help people. He's an inspiration.

No, I didn't go to the Getting to Know You segment. I had plans and had to leave after lunch.

Some questionarre type deals...Favorite movie, summer plans...and then we got to ask questions to the students....since the faculty wasnt there, we got more straight forward answers.

Granted, they are still there to sell the school to US.

so ive never posted before but i just got some news that might be interesting to those of you who are still waiting...

my parents were talking to a family friend who works at the medical school and they mentioned that i still haven't gotten any news since my interview in december. he told them he would check it out and see why things were moving so slowly. he wasn't able to find out anything about my application (too bad!) but he did say that the admissions committee is being very conservative this year because of the economy and as of now 180 acceptances have been given out for the 160 spots. according to my dad, it sounded like they would be giving out more once they have an idea of how many people are accepting.

hope this is helpful... my dad just got the email today so i'm assuming those numbers are up to date 🙂
They usually only hand out 180ish acceptances?

did you mean 100?

Well -- 180 is probably correct. I mean, they are giving acceptances to people who don't accept, right. If you can get into UNC, especially OOS, then you are probably "good enough" to get in at some other cool schools.

Anyway -=- Waitlist me baby! Waitlist me.
