Well -- 180 is probably correct. I mean, they are giving acceptances to people who don't accept, right. If you can get into UNC, especially OOS, then you are probably "good enough" to get in at some other cool schools.

Anyway -=- Waitlist me baby! Waitlist me.

I am considering the earlier post to be a wind-up. It's another case of we will all have to wait and see. The only thing we all know is we have to wait until the end of this month for the outcome.

The have definitely offered at least 160 places as of today, so I wouldn't doubt that they had offered 180 places. AAMC stipulates that as of today, all schools must make as many offers as they have seats, so if you haven't heard yet, then that means it has to be either rejection or waitlist. Good luck everyone.

That may not be 100% true - again all of this is pure conjecture, mainly to make myself believe there still may be a chance...

They probably have offered all 160 seats as of today due to AAMC's mandations, but maybe not all 160 offers have been received yet. There have been conflicting posts about this, but it is possible that acceptances will be sent out via mail, and some of us have not been notified of our acceptances.

Either way, they told us we would hear by March 31st, so at least we should only have one more day to wait... :scared:

I am going to have to agree with the we will wait and see philosophy. I don't think that just because we havent heard that means we are waitlisted or rejected.

Same here... since someone did post of getting a call last week, suggests that not all acceptances were handed out, even if all the decisions have been made. We just gotta hang in tight for hopefully 1 or 2 more days to end this madness.

I honestly love you guys' never say die attitude. UNC is notoriously slow. I'm of the wait and see frame of mind.

God, please let me (or someone else worthy that has written in this thread, but me first) be 181. even 180.5, and then we can use simple math to round up to 181.

always,
travelingdoc

Does anyone know where I can find data on how much the waitlist might move? I still haven't heard anything so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I'm on the waitlist and not rejected... Also, I'm IS

UNC is notorious for pulling people off the waitlist way in to the summer. It could happen in couple weeks or may even happen few days before classes start in August.
Anyone know how many apprx. are waitilsted?

The positive attitued is refreshing. Just take a deep breath and try to relax for the next few days. It's out of our hands, and at this point, it's all conjecture.....

From what I"ve heard, UNC usually only takes a few people off the waitlist; however, if it's true that they're being conservative with acceptances this year, then hopefully it will more more than in the past.

Good Hunting!

yeah I agree with the relaxing part, at this point there is no reason to be negative or stressed, the outcome is determined. everything happens for the best! (and taking (MORE) time off is SOOOOOOO worth it if anyone does need to (re)reapply.)

I find it believable that they have handed out 160-180 acceptances already... I just wonder if maybe all 160-180 people know who they are yet.... thats always a possibility... we'll see today or tomorrow I suppose.

Please people post today if you get news in the mail!! I live in Charlotte so not sure if I will get the mail today or tomorrow...

I really hope the 160 or 180 acceptances include those going out in the mail! I wonder if anyone last year got accepted via the mail and not through a phone call?

The student guide at my interview was accepted by mail without a phone call. I'm not sure if it was this late though.

You go to UNCC also?

Really?!?! Why did they tell me the decisions were going out if they weren't?? That is so frustrating!! Now I'm not even sure if we will get it by tomorrow like they said we would....

NCGuy: I graduated from chapel hill but just living in charlotte now 🙂

I want to call and ask, but since I'm sitting in Music History right now it may not be a good idea...

Anyone heard anything from the office?

I would guess that they are mailed today or tomorrow and we'll find out soon after that....

i spoke with the office today, and was told that they wanted to send tings out by last friday, and the latest TODAY! and that they were notifying BOTH mail (snail) and email......

So, I'm going to assume that we should add a week or two to this date. Mainly because I checked last year's thread and no one heard anything after the March 31st date until around April 10th...😕

um, so if they are updating via both mail and e-mail, and want to send stuff out today, that means we should be watching our e-mail inboxes neurotically over the coming hours, correct?

By the way, I have to admit, the rumor mill component of waiting for this decision has made the wait significantly more enjoyable and entertaining, albeit in a massochistic kind of way. Strangely, I don't even care if half the info and updates posted here are totally false, because it gives me something to obsess over as I wait. Anybody with me on that?

I couldnt agree with you more

Checking the thread compulsively is what's getting me through work today, and probably tomorrow, too

Argh so I just called the office (for the 6th time in the past week now, but who's counting?? Hopefully not them...) and asked AGAIN and they said they are still verifying the decisions (whatever that means). I asked whether it would be by mail or e-mail. She said if it was "unsuccessful" (nice word for rejection) we would find out by mail, if it was waitlist, we would find out by e-mail, and if it is an acceptance, we will find out by a phone call and mail. *Sigh* Not sure when all of that will take place though

Boy this is going to be an excruciating two days... hopefully all our worrying was over nothing !

I coudn't agree more that by checking this thread every...oh I don't know, every 10 to 20 minutes has made this process less stressful. At least I don't have an iPhone and can't check the forum when I am away from the computer.

I just wish they could hurry up with these - I need to either begin a.)apply for jobs, b.) accept an offer to a PhD program, or c.) go find a cave and become a hermit - and not knowing their decision has made it extremely difficult to sort any of these out.

Oh well.

Hmm does Monday night still have any significance? Does this mean that phone calls could be going out this evening? I'm not going to expect anything, but...

WHat would be the point of turning down an acceptance offer if you havent even received any financial aid info yet?

Hm. Maybe they haven't actually turned them down yet. UNC probably just counts on a certain number of applicants taking spots from other schools. You know, like airlines.

Guessing tomorrow may be the day? Unless someone somewhere out there heard from them?

The worst part is knowing that a decision has been made... we just don't know what it is yet...

I'm ready for this wait to be over... reguardless of what the news is.

maybe one of those duke, jhu, vandy or stanford folks decide to jump for a private school? the applicant may not have UNC at the top of their list?

btw, just checked the mail, nothing here. 🙂

i'm in china. seriously.

I am willing to bet that not all of us will hear by the 31st.....and the slow gut piercing anxiety will continue.

Sad thing is when I hear I won't have anything to really look forward to . . . you know. The whole anxiety over your life changing will be over. It's rather depressing in a way. The possibility of "what if" disappearing is a sad one.

I understand that feeling, but I'm ready to get on with my life and start making plans. I feel like I'm in med school pergatory

Yeah. It will be sad when the "dream" is over...but like other's said, it will be nice to have a sense of normalcy once again as I can figure out what will happen in the next year.

well its finally the 'end of the month' that they kept on talking about.. but why do i get the feeling that we'll be kept in the dark indefinitely

I have the same feeling - if you look at the threads from last year, it seems that the applicants were going through the same motions as we are now.

They were told by the end of march, but did not hear anything until several days after.

Various people posted conflicting info based on what they admissions office staff relayed to them as well - just like this year.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

Where are you finding last year's thread? Although, I probably shouldn't check it, just one more thing to stress me out...

soooo after reading this thread and fretting for the past few days, I called the adcom office a couple of hours ago and I spoke to Joni, I asked her about the validity of final decisions being made at the end of this month and she told me that was true...she also said that I should expect to hear something by the end of this week

Did you ask her if any acceptances are still being given out?

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if you haven't heard that you were accepted yet, then there is like a 99.95% chance that you have been rejected or waitlisted. Do not hold out any hope of being accepted at this point. I was told by a med student that all acceptances have been handed out.

at this point that reality has started to settle in and after looking at last years thread, i would be happy with a waitlist
