I don't think BU necessarily invites people in the order they were complete. I was complete on Sept. 2 and received an interview invite on Sept. 10. I interviewed on their first interview day (October 7th).

The people who were complete recently shouldn't lose hope because they could easily get invited quickly after completion if BU loves them... But those of you complete in August and September shouldn't lose hope either because BU rejects people immediately after completion if they don't like them.

This is one of those schools where you should be happy that you haven't been rejected yet!!

Good luck to you all! :luck:Now I get to wait until January 12ish at the earliest to hear about my decision... 👎

From the looks of this blog, it didnt seem like anyone had gotten such a fast interview invite. Anyone else get an invite that fast. And I would just like to verify, you are not MSTP? Nor are you the relative of a professor at the school or something weird?

Just to clarify, I was technically complete on July 14th, but my application was on hold until Sept. 2 when I got my MCAT scores back. Because BU gets so many application I doubt they would have looked at mine before Sept. 2 though. I am a regular MD applicant with no relatives at BU, but I do live in Boston if that makes a difference.

for the people who live in Boston/know the way around. does anyone know the easiest, fastest public transportation way to get to BU med from Cambridge (red T line, around Harvard/MIT area). The T didn't look like it reached BU med campus directly...hmm. Also anyone know what time the public transportation starts/how long it would take to get from Cambridge to BU med? thanks :-D

grab the silver line (SL4) from South Station (on the Red line), it takes you to a block from school

note that the silver line is actually a dedicated lane bus, so you catch it outside the station.

awesome 🙂. What day were u complete? I was complete sept 1 so was wondering how close they were to my date!

I'm pretty sure that at this point they are re-reviewing applications, and not handing out interviews in order of completion for those done in August/September.

hmm maybe, but no one who was complete after sept 1 has gotten an invite (except that guy who was on hold till after sept 1 cuz of his mcat), so it still seems like they are giving invites in order of completion date, but rejections whenever, as said in their 30 day email
but who knows!

a quick search shows that you are indeed correct. I can't believe how backed up Boston is. Good luck to everyone waiting. :luck:

6 more weeks for those who've interviewed already. :xf:

FYI, I was complete on Sept 4th (that is when I submitted my secondary app), and was invited for an interview on Oct 20th. I had my interview on Oct 22nd (I am local). Now it's just a waiting game until Jan. 15th to hear back if I am accepted, rejected, wait-listed, or deferred... I wish they gave decisions back earlier!

I would just take the #1 Bus. I travel between MIT & BU Med a couple times a week, and that's the easiest way (other than taxi, of course). The ride takes about 20-30min (from MIT), depending on traffic since the #1 goes directly on Mass. Ave, and it does go all the way up to Harvard Square as well, though I'm not sure how long that ride would be... You could also take the CT1, which is a bit quicker cause it has less stops. I would definitely use the MBTA website for all your traveling within Boston - it's super convenient.

I used to take the 1/CT1 from Central Sq... then I switched to the #47 bus from Broadway (one stop past S.Station on the Red Line). It doesn't run quite as often at the #1 but is more frequent than the CT1 (check the schedule at mbta.com). The great thing about the #47 is that it originates at Broadway so it is super reliable, and it takes only 3-5 minutes to get to Newton Pavillion at BUMC. Good luck!

Has anyone received an invite who was complete in October? I've been complete since 10/20.

I am just trying to determine when I can expect to hear something? (instead of obsessively checking the status thread for now)

Thanks 🙂

I was complete 9/3 and still have not heard a thing. Hope that gives you some idea of how far behind they are! From what I've observed on this thread, it does not appear that anyone complete in October has received an invite. I could be wrong though! The wait continues....

Complete second week of September, no news yet.

Ughhh complete sept 1. Still no news. Last invite was "late august". Why soo slow for a few days completion!

Hmmm seems like I have quite a ways to go still. That 30 day email gives the illusion you will find out soon. How deceiving lol.

Complete Oct. 5
Interview offered Dec. 2.
Interview date Dec. 21. (Not part of the regular interview days. I guess I'm a special case since I'm in the MAMS program)

Dear Mr. xxxxxxx,

The Committee on Admissions of Boston University School of Medicine is pleased to invite you for an interview. We are offering you an interview that is separate from our regular interview day, since you know the school so well and may not need the full schedule. If, however, you wish to attend an introductory session, or a lunch and tour with BUSM students, please contact xxxxxxx at 617-638-xxxx or by email at [email protected].

Precisely right, icehcky, and congrats. Guess they figure there's no need to give you a tour when you're probably already pretty familiar with the campus. When did you enter the program?

I interviewed at BU last week. It is my only interview so far. BU is by far my top choice as I am in their SMP program here and really like the school. Would it be wise for me to send a letter of intent/interest to them before a decision is made? Thanks!

At my interview, the Dr. Witzburg specifically said that he doesn't like LOIs that are sent before decisions are made or soon after the interview. I'd wait until after the first batch of acceptances are sent out before sending an LOI.

Certainly couldn't hurt.

Good to see you on here, Aar0n. I figured I was the only one.

ummm... wrong. as was posted above, dean witzburg specifically said not to do this until later in the application season when you've had a chance to weigh your options and you can show that you've really thought about BU vs. other schools. BU does not like to see LOIs this early.

Agreed. He was very emphatic on this point.

I hope you are truly a special case since I was complete 2 weeks before you and haven't heard back yet.

Are you MAMS, smmypnts? If not, I wouldn't compare your waiting time to Aar0n; the MAMS students are considered as a subset of applications, to the best of my knowledge.

yes we have a separate screening committee and set of interviewers.

Hmm. Should i just assume it will take them a week to get thru each day now haha. Complete sept 1 🙂

Rejected today via email at 7pm EST. Looks like they did another mass-cut if MDapps is to be believed. I for the life of me can't figure out the screen, though. They rejected nontrads like me and kids getting into places like Vandy with equal vigor.

Damn BU. I thought I had a shot with you. Oh well. Good luck to this year's BU MS1s!

Really sorry to hear it, Untraditional. When were you complete?

Good luck elsewhere!!

how should I address an update letter?

to whom it may concern?

I know that Dr. Witzburg said that letters of intent are way too early at this point (post-interview), but are update letters are okay?

I'd probably write "Dear members of the Boston University School of Medicine admissions committee," but I don't think it really matters!

I know that Dr. Witzburg said that letters of intent are way too early at this point (post-interview), but are update letters are okay?

I think they do like updates because my post interview email from BU says this,
"During the coming months you will probably be considering a number of medical schools. If you wish to remain a candidate here at Boston University, please continue to update your file as appropriate and feel free to contact us with any questions you may have."
so if you have been doing something significant this year that may help your application, then go for it!

Does anyone know when the first batch of acceptances will be released?
The date that has been going around on this thread is Jan 12th, but my post interview email just says "mid January"

Absolutely correct.

The official line from BU is that earliest notice will be on January 15, though I gather from past experience that it has occasionally happened a bit earlier.

Sending in letters of interest depends a bit on when you interviewed. I was at the first interview day of the season and Dr. Witzburg said to wait until at least November to send one. Basically he doesn't want people sending them in the moment they get home just to boost their chances or before having given other schools a look. So there's no hard set date of when you should send these in. Just give it a nice cushion after your interview.

I entered Sept. 2008, right after I finished undergrad (May 2008).

I hope you are truly a special case since I was complete 2 weeks before you and haven't heard back yet.

I don't know about that, but best of luck to you.

invited for interview today (12/14)!
Finished application 08/27 (loooong time ago!)
Interview date: 02/01

Those who completed apps back in august/sept but haven't heard back yet, don't lose hope!!
