Wow! Those are a lot of questions. Are interview days usually pretty crowded? Does anyone know the chances of getting accepted after an interview? When you got your interview schedule via the e-mail invite did it say how many interviewers you would have?

My day had about 30-40 interviewees, by far the most of any of the schools I've been to. I have no idea what the chances are, but I'm pretty sure they're increasing the class size this year. It did say on the e-mail invite that I would have 1 or 2 interviewers, and I ended up having 2.

My interview day had the same amount as well. At the information session they said they were going to try and increase the class size to 328, which would make them the largest medical school. I wonder how many OOS (like me) they will accept or better yet, how many have been accepted thus far...

LOL, It was exhausting just writing them. Hopefull, your interview is lighter! Goodluck !

LOL. I bet. Thank you so much!!

Whoa! That is a lot. Thanks!

I'm OOS too actually. It said in the most recent MSAR that 179 OOS students were offered acceptances. Not too shabby! 🙂

Wollf, What was your response to the BioChem question?

First and foremost I would make an appointment with the professor to review the concepts that were not solidified. Second, I would also reevaluate my study strategies--was I utilizing my time efficiently, studying frivolous details as opposed to important facts, ie. I concluded with emphasizing that I would NOT give up, dropping out or sulking was not in option. Just pick myself up and more intelligently try again.

Its better than a rejection! Did the waitlist notification come through snail mail? Also, did they give you indications of its movement?

There isn't an official notification for being on the waiting list. Every 15th they make decisions. If you are rejected, you get an email (instantly notified). If you are accepted, you get what sounds like a large letter/packet via snail mail. If you are on the waiting list, you do not hear anything. They obviously will not give any information about being accepted or not over the phone since it takes the surprise out of the letter, but they said to me I just have to play the waiting game now. It's not fun waiting, but sometimes you have to do it.

1. If the 15th is on a weekend, when do they decide, before or after?

2. Did you call them to find out that "you just have to play the waiting game now" ?

Good luck.

1: I'm not sure exactly, but for me, Nov. 15th was a Sunday, and they sent out decisions Nov. 16th (Monday). I don't know about if the 15th is a Saturday, but the next month that has the 15th on the Saturday is May 2010.

2: I did call them, and that's what they told me. Earlier in this thread someone said that it took them several months to realize they were on the waiting list (I guess they didn't call and ask), but if you do not hear back, and you were going to be considered on the 15th (they send out postcards saying they are going to consider you in their next session), then you can assume you are on the waiting list.

Instant rejection on the 15th! In that case I don't want to look at my email box on the 15th. Perhaps I shouldn't open my email for the first 3 days. But ofcourse that just prolongs the "what if"

Interviewed on Nov. 11th. The interviewer was very straightforward, but I didn't think that was a bad thing. It was very laid-back and my interviewer was very funny. It was a really unorthodox interview compared to what I've heard. Here are some of the questions I was asked:

1. What was my high school rank?
2. Did I speak another language? Asked about the time I lived in Mexico.
3. What type of medicine I wanted to practice and why.
4. Seemed impressed with my PhD. Asked about my research.
5. Inquired about mass spectrometry, because his office was thinking about getting one.
6. What are my thoughts on Healthcare reform?
7. Because I want to go into clinical research, what were my thoughts on H1N1?
8. Ethical question: A 68 year old woman went into cardiac arrest. You revive her. When you look at her chart, you see she has a Do Not Resuscitate Order. What is the first thing that comes into your mind? And then a lot of questions afterward. What would you do next? Would you pull the plug on her, etc?
9. Ethical question: A family was in a car accident. One victim was a 5 year old child. This child needs immediate medical attention, but her parents are Jehovah's witnesses and are refusing medical care for her. What would you do?
10. Circumstances in college. Why my GPA (3.44) and MCAT (23Q) were low? I worked full time to pay for school and living expenses, etc.
11.Why did you decide to get a graduate degree? My GPA in grad school is a 3.87 and my MCAT is a 28Q.
12. Do you have any questions for me?
13. Discussed what I wanted to do in the medical field and well-known health disparities.
14. What other schools did I apply to and why?
15. What do you do to relieve stress? My brother came up and we discussed his job as a director of operations for a not-for-profit.

The interview lasted about 55 minutes and I CANNOT gauge his thoughts on me. Sometimes I think he loved me and sometimes I think he didn't like my answer at all. We laughed ALOT and joked some. When I asked if there were resources for students that don't pass their boards, he said "I don't think you have to worry about that." Although... I don't know if he thought I wouldn't get in or if he thought I would be just fine. Im hoping the latter 😛. At the end, he said that it was very nice speaking to me. Any thoughts?

I bet I could name who your interviewer is. Was your interviewer a surgeon, maybe with his wife in ophthalmology? Was it going to be two interviewers, but the other one was actually doing MD/PhD interviews? I had very similar questions, just based more on my experiences and such. Hopefully yours went well. I know mine could have been better, mostly because I was still trying to think them through and think what the "right" answer would be at the same time since they weren't the traditional same-old questions. Are you in-state or OOS?

So I just called the admissions office and they said that rejections are sent at the end of the month, NOT on the 15th instantly. Has anyone had an experience to the contrary?

that's probably right then. I just figured that since they have decisions on the 15th and they send out acceptance letters then, that they would be sending out rejection email then. it seems like usually people get weeded out before they even get an interview. after that, then they're probably waitlisted unless if the school knows it won't work out for them

I don't really think I did that well, but we shall see. The person who interviewed me is a surgeon. He was the only one there, because the other one had to go overseas for a conference. I totally bombed the first ethical question about the grandmother. I wasn't quite sure how to respond considering I've never had a medical ethics class, and that was a really hard question compared to what they normally ask. He really liked my answer for the second one. Didn't question it at all. Just said "Great answer. Ill take that." Just tried to answer the best I could, and he didn't like my answersat times. Im a republican, and he is a democrat so answering the healthcare reform question was fun. I tried to remain as moderate as possible on that one. Maybe everyone had a tough time during that interview. haha. Who knows. Just tried to keep my cool. IF IU doesn't want me with a PhD and a ton of medical and non-medical ECs, then I don't want to go there.

Thanks for the response. This particular thread has been quite for awhile. Is there anyone else waiting for December notifications? Its nice to share the anxiety w/ other people 🙂

Im waiting to. Big week:scared:!!. When did you interview?

good luck to everyone this week!!! i hope it all goes well for all of you!

Hey guys just a heads up...I got my letter on November 20th and assume they were sent out on the 16th rather than the 15th since it was a Sunday. I go to school out of state though, so that could explain why I did not get it until Friday. Best of luck to you all!!!

Any of you in-staters get an acceptance yet?? Just wondering as I am out of state...

Has anyone heard anything this month? I'm a little surprised, but I suppose it may have something to do with the holidays...?

I know they don't do interviews in December, but I can't imagine them not having the "15th of the month" meeting (or whatever it is). Maybe they take a month to regroup or something.

Yea, I thought my interviewer said they were meeting this month for sure... I guess the thanksgiving and christmas holidays could delay things...

Anybody hear news? I'm out of town right now, but my parents say I got some kind of packet from IU in the mail, so I can't wait to get home! Anyway, good luck and I can't wait to hear what's going on with everybody...

I'd be like "Dad open the packet and read it to me!"... Haha! I'm out of town too... Baltimore, we just got 2 feet of snow! 😱

Good Luck man! Hope it is good news for ya!

Well holy hell, accepted, Class of 2014! Guess I have a tough choice to make.

What is the rule about holding acceptances? This makes two...I remember hearing something about a limit (two?) on holding acceptances at schools, but I never thought that would ever happen. Anybody know?

Good luck to you all, hopefully you hear back soon!

Congrats!!!!!!! Im patiently waiting to, but hopefully I will receive that golden package.

Congrats!! I'm pretty sure you can hold as many acceptances as you want up until May 15th!

Congrats! I am still patiently waiting. Good luck with whatever school you decide. If you decide IU isn't for you sooner than May 15th, free up that spot for one of us 😉.

Snail mail. Although if accepted you may receive an e-mail from Jose Espada regarding financial aid.

congratulations to all who heard back this month!

does anyone know when we choose our campus? or how we choose our campus, for that matter?

Still eagerly waiting...
does the rejection letter come through email or regular mail?

I am honestly perplexed by the receipt date of acceptance lettes. From reading this thread, many of us (that interviewed in Nov.) haven't heard anything. Is it possible that we will hear something by Jan 15-18? Do you think we have passed the Dec 15 window? A girl I met on this forum told me she interviewed in October and was going to wait with me for the Dec 15 decisions. I haven't heard from her and assume that she is STILL waiting. Any thoughts..?

My pre-med advisor seems to think that they meet on (like they always do) on the first wednesday of every month, which would include December 2. after that date, acceptances are usually mailed out around the 15. I interviewed on November 18, so I am waiting too. hopefully it is just all the holiday mail that is slowing eveything down.

I don't think that happens until the Spring. I've heard April, but don't quote me on that.

hey wolff i still haven't heard anything yet and i interviewed on Oct. 7. I don't know what's going on but a person from last years thread interviewed in Oct but didn't hear back until after Jan. 15. so I guess not hearing anything means that we just have to wait 🙁
