Interviewed on Nov. 11th. The interviewer was very straightforward, but I didn't think that was a bad thing. It was very laid-back and my interviewer was very funny. It was a really unorthodox interview compared to what I've heard. Here are some of the questions I was asked:
1. What was my high school rank?
2. Did I speak another language? Asked about the time I lived in Mexico.
3. What type of medicine I wanted to practice and why.
4. Seemed impressed with my PhD. Asked about my research.
5. Inquired about mass spectrometry, because his office was thinking about getting one.
6. What are my thoughts on Healthcare reform?
7. Because I want to go into clinical research, what were my thoughts on H1N1?
8. Ethical question: A 68 year old woman went into cardiac arrest. You revive her. When you look at her chart, you see she has a Do Not Resuscitate Order. What is the first thing that comes into your mind? And then a lot of questions afterward. What would you do next? Would you pull the plug on her, etc?
9. Ethical question: A family was in a car accident. One victim was a 5 year old child. This child needs immediate medical attention, but her parents are Jehovah's witnesses and are refusing medical care for her. What would you do?
10. Circumstances in college. Why my GPA (3.44) and MCAT (23Q) were low? I worked full time to pay for school and living expenses, etc.
11.Why did you decide to get a graduate degree? My GPA in grad school is a 3.87 and my MCAT is a 28Q.
12. Do you have any questions for me?
13. Discussed what I wanted to do in the medical field and well-known health disparities.
14. What other schools did I apply to and why?
15. What do you do to relieve stress? My brother came up and we discussed his job as a director of operations for a not-for-profit.
The interview lasted about 55 minutes and I CANNOT gauge his thoughts on me. Sometimes I think he loved me and sometimes I think he didn't like my answer at all. We laughed ALOT and joked some. When I asked if there were resources for students that don't pass their boards, he said "I don't think you have to worry about that." Although... I don't know if he thought I wouldn't get in or if he thought I would be just fine. Im hoping the latter 😛. At the end, he said that it was very nice speaking to me. Any thoughts?
