Ask him (or me for that matter) in a few days lol😀

LOL... yeah, I know you guys are anxiously awaiting those letters of acceptance! Hope both of you get in.

Do either of you have a feel for how many people apply EDP? I'm just concerned that so many people apply EDP that it takes away the competitive advantage vs the regular applicants.

Any news for EDP applicants yet? That Oct 1st date is getting closer!

Nope. I did get an email from AMCAS today saying that IU has initiated a background check that we agreed on when we filled in our AMCAS applications. I don't know what this means really.

I think we will ALL (EDP applicants) find out on October 1st. I believe the admission committee meets to decide our fates on September 30th.

Hey Ashish89, I'll be applying next year for entry in fall, 2011. I see that you are applying EDP. I've been strongly considering EDP with IU (I'm in-state, and qualified as far as stats). Would you recommend the EDP to other applicants?

It is very hard to get official stats on EDPs!! Our pre-health advisor said that close to 90% EDP applicants are typically accepted at IU. That's what prompted me to go that route as opposed to just applying early through the regular process.

I would recommend that if you are an in-state applicant with good stats (even higher than the minimum required to qualify to apply for EDP) and if you really really want to go to IU, then apply for EDP.

Good luck!

On my interview day everyone there was EDP, and I don't know of any EDP'ers that had an interview on any other day. I believe there were about 30 of us.

BTW I checked out the University of Kentucky thread and their EDP were notified THURSDAY by phone. Don't screen your calls!!

I'm assuming that the admissions committee met already to decide our fates...

My logic on this is simply that they wouldn't waste time/resources on a background check unless everything else was in order 🙂

good luck to everybody!

(What makes you think they will meet Sept 30th mnckvl?)

Hi all,

FYI...I called the admissions office an hour or so ago. This is what the lady told me verbatim:

"We do not initiate background checks unless a decision has been made on your file"

"Letters are being mailed today afternoon" (9/28)

When I asked her more specifically, she said she couldn't release individual information over the phone.

I proceeded to call AMCAS regarding the background check process, and the AMCAS representative said "schools do not initiate background checks unless you've been accepted."

It looks like good news for everybody who got that e-mail, but I'm still going to keep my fingers crossed until I get some physical evidence 🙂

Good luck to everybody!:luck::luck::luck::luck:

Well ash based on your last post it seems that I wasn't as lucky as some. I suppose now I have to decide whether or not to apply to other schools.

(What makes you think they will meet Sept 30th mnckvl?)

I thought that's what someone told me on the day of our interview. Maybe it was the student who gave us the tour? Not sure. Maybe I got my facts wrong!

Well, thanks for doing all the research Ashish. I will be standing next to my mailbox until the mail arrives the next couple of days!!

Good luck to all!!

Congrats Silso. Are you in Indy? That letter arrived quickly!

What is your campus choice?

Don't lose heart yet - I didn't get the email til this morning.
Acceptance letter arrived just now! Hooray!

Congrats Siliso!! Do you live in the Indy area? One other friend of mine who lives just outside of Indy also got his acceptance letter today.

I live in Lafayette and I just checked my mail .. and no letter! Hopefully tomorrow!

Anyone outside the Indy are get their acceptance letter?

Yep, I'm 10 mins from the school, so it makes sense I'd get it today if they mailed yesterday. Hope yours arrives soon! I'm planning to stay in Indianapolis.

Accepted!!!! 9/29. I was an EDP applicant. Good luck to everybody else 🙂

(My letter was addressed to Carmel, IN)

Scratch my last post. I woke up this morning to find the background check email. I won't be able to check my mail til 6...

I will be choosing Indy as my campus!

If all the people there on my interview day were EDP and that was the only EDP day (I believe this is true but can't say for certain), then I would say maybe...~30 people interviewed for EDP this year? Also saw that, I think, 17 people were accepted by EDP last year?

Got the acceptance letter!! Yay!!

Good luck to all who are still eagerly waiting to hear back from IU or yet to interview with IU. If you have any questions about my interview/application experience please feel free to PM me, I will be more than glad to share it with you!

Cheers!

I agree with the 30 people estimate. Where did you see that 17 got accepted last year? I think it was ashish who said that about 90% of EDP applicants are accepted so this surprises me.

Yeah .. 17/30 sounds a little low. My pre-health advisor told me that typically 90% of the SDP applicants are accepted and ashish mentioned earlier that almost all of the ~30 EDPs got in!!

Any non-EDP applicant this year here who didn't get accepted??

I'm in, big beautiful packet made it all the way down to Evansville.

On a related note, I just bought $200 of IU apparel at Kohl's...

Definitely Indy. My fiance will be graduating with me and I don't want her to have to find a job here in Evansville, (or south bend, or lafayette, etc for that matter) and then have to move and do it again 2 years later. I want to stay in Indy through MD and hopefully even longer

17 early decision admissions was from the MSAR, but I meant to say that I didn't take that as a 50-50 chance, because I have no idea how many people interviewed for EDP last year - so it could be 17 out of 18 for all I know. I haven't yet heard from anyone who interviewed this year and didn't get in.

Also congrats to organdonor!

Anyone moving to Indy pm me, maybe we can move to the same apartments, split some referral fees or something.

M really worried as what does it mean? can anybody guide me ?😡🙁

Hi all,

Have any of you EDP applicants gotten the background check email from certiphi yet?

It's been about a week since I got the initial email so I was wondering if anybody else got the follow up from certiphi.

Nope! Nothing yet.

Got supplemental on 9/5, invite today for mid-November.

Did anyone else get a second interview invite (non-EDP)? Is this good or bad?

Did anyone else get a second interview invite (non-EDP)? Is this good or bad?

I applied to IU (and only IU) back in 2003 as EDP. They also wanted a second interview invite. The second interview (in my case) was geared more towards seeing if I had the emotional maturity for med school; the first line they said was 'we know you're smart but we want to see if you'll fit in here'. Regardless, I was rejected a bit later and went to grad school instead; now I'm applying to med school again.

The premed adviser at IU told me that second interviews are rare but they do happen. When I talked to the dean about why I was rejected he basically told me I needed to become more mature.

In short, they aren't ready to accept you but they aren't ready to reject you; they're giving you a second shot at proving yourself. I'd get some practice interviews and polish yourself more. I'd also read a book on medical ethics so you have some familiarity with some of the issues that arise as a doctor.

Good luck!

Hey guys!

I'm just wondering what my chances are for an acceptance from IU. I just got an interview invite (!) for Nov. 11th, but I am an OOS student. I was born and raised in Indiana until the 4th grade, when I moved to Florida. I would love to move back to Indiana (where I have a lot of family) and get back to my roots, what do you guys think? I guess the interview invite means they are interested right!?! Also, how many OOS apply every year per acceptance?

Thanks!

Hey guys, I'm OOS and I just got an interview invite for the 11th as well. Mine is scheduled for the morning. Are you guys taking advantage of the hosting program or are you just staying at a hotel?

Hey guys!

I'm just wondering what my chances are for an acceptance from IU.

IU is a very large medical school and therefore admits a decent number of OOS. Make sure you make your connections to the state evident. We can't really comment on your chances without knowing stats, but maybe that would be more appropriate in the "What are my chances?" thread.

Ask your advisor for a look at the MSAR. It has exactly the numbers you are looking for.

Good luck and hopefully I will see you in Indy one of these days!:luck:

Thanks, if all goes well for both of us, we can meet in Indy for a beer sometime! :luck:

I will be taking advantage of it. I'm hoping to save some $, so I figure I'll fly in the night before, catch the Carey shuttle service to campus, and hope that the student host is within walking distance from campus 👍

Hey, I just had an interview at Indy yesterday, and I was wondering if anybody knows how hard it would be to get in to IU as an OOS without significant ties. I got a 38Q on the MCAT and a 3.93 GPA. According to http://www.eduers.com/Medical/Indiana/Indiana_University_School_of_Medicine.html , looks like 1 out of 2-3 OOS get accepted, but doesn't say how many were significant. Do you think I still have a chance?

wanted to do this the right way...still a rookie on this website 😳...

Well, having NO significant ties may actually hurt your application, but I know the school accepts a good number of OOS'ers every year because of the large class size (of those who have ties to the state I don't know).

According to your website, approximately 25% of OOS'ers who get interviewed are accepted...those are good chances...and your stats are obviously impressive, so I think a few reasons to be optimistic if you have good EC's and had a good interview 🙂.

Anyone moving to Indy pm me, maybe we can move to the same apartments, split some referral fees or something.

If anyone is looking for a place to live, I have a house in Indy and am looking for roommates! I just got accepted to IUSM EDP and it would be great to have other med-school roommates. PM me!

Well, it's October 15th now, so some acceptances should be going out. I'm guessing I probably won't hear right away since my interview was only a week ago, so I guess I'll wait until the Nov. 15th date that I heard some people talk about. I did call to make sure that they had all the materials, and they said my file was under consideration, so I'll just have to wait and see. Hope to see many of you at Indy!

I interviewed yesterday and my interviewer said that they interview for 3 weeks then everything goes to the committee who then makes the decisions. so i guess you needed to interview at least 2 weeks before today to possibly hear back

I am OOS and was fortunately granted an interview, but I have a conflict. I cannot change the interview, but I can be put on a waitlist for an interview later on. Is that basically like withdrawing your application?

just got a letter in the mail!!!!!

ACCEPTED !!!!!!!!!!!!😀

so happy, this is one of my top schools!!

for all of you wondering about how correspondence works....they send out letters every 15th of the month by snail mail. So you don't actually know your status until about 2-3 days later.

good luck to all of you who are applying this year!!!!!!! I hope you all get in!!!
