I was there last week, and the stat they told us was that they interviewed only 500 out of 7,000 complete applications last year.

That might explain the liberal sprinkling of rejection emails getting sent out. Best wishes to those in limbo!

And I remember someone there saying this year they got/are expecting 10,000ish and they're interviewing about 800.

Ok I just changed my interview to 10/5. Is anyone else going on this day? Why do I feel like I'm the only one being interviewed then...

Interview Invite received today -- for 10/23. Anyone else interviewing on this day??

I didn't receive a complete email -- and my stats are average. OOS, 3.63 gpa, 31S MCAT. Good ECs.

Yay! Congratulations! Would you mind telling us when you were complete?

They never sent me a complete email, but I sent them an email asking what my status was, and received an email telling me to expect an invitation invite about a week ago. It took them about 2 weeks to respond to my initial request of my status.

since complete emails are getting sent out pretty randomly, has anybody who submitted their secondary in august heard anything yet?

I sent an email to admissions asking if my app was complete on sept 4th, I got a response the 20th saying it was complete, other than that haven't heard anything, but i submitted August 4th.

I hope Tulane loves me as much as I love Tulane. There is nothing worse than unrequited love.

omg we're almost stats twins! and I'm gonna be there on the 23rd too. I actually tried changing it but they said next available slot was in december😱

What was it like? (details would be nice 😉 )
It was a completely relaxed and non-stress day. We started off with a brief introduction from Father Don. Then we had the opportunity to ask questions to two current students. We took a tour of the Sim lab and then people started to have interviews. They're scheduled in 30 min blocks starting at 9:30 i think and going til 12 [mine were at 10 and 10:30 which was hard because they were in two separate buildings and the first one ran long so I was a little late for the second one, but everyone there is easy going so it wasn't a big deal]. Then you have the student interview over lunch at 12 and it goes to about 1ish. Then there was a tour of the 3 med school buildings [be prepared to walk a lot]. We got to see the library, anatomy lab and essentially a museum of birth defects and some other stuff like study rooms, etc. We were done by 2/2:30. If anyone has any specific questions, feel free to PM me.

Did they mention how many interviewees get acceptance offers?

No, they did not. If anyone has MSAR they could look it up. I don't have my copy with me, but I'm curious as to what the % is so if someone has a copy and could look it up, that'd be awesome!
For anyone that's interested this is how their application process works [copied from the memorandum they gave us, but slightly edited]:

The admissions process at Tulane consists of three stages. The first stage, now completed, was the one in which you were selected for an interview. Of approximately 7,000 applicants last year, only 500 applicants were invited for interviews...obviously, you are part of the small, invited group who will now get a full review by the Committee...
The second stage of the admissions process will begin after you have completed your interview day. Your application, with reports added from each of your interviewers, will go before the Admissions Committee...This stage of the process generally takes three weeks for completion.
A minimum of five members of the Committee will read your entire application very carefully and there may be some open discussion of the application with the Committee as a whole. Each person who reads your application will rate it on a 10 point scale. The average of the scores is considered your "priority rating"...While emphasis is placed on your personal qualities during this second stage, we never neglect your academic credentials...
Applicants whose average score is equal to or greater than six are considered to be in our acceptable range; they will advance to the third stage. Regrettably, no further consideration can be given to candidates whose average rating falls below six.
The final stage is the actual selection of the class. At the end of each weekly meeting, the Admissions Committee will decide to whom to send a letter of acceptance. Letters will be mailed weekly, beginning in mid-October. Those applicants not selected for acceptance, but ranked within our acceptable range, will be notified by email of their status. While most moverment from our acceptable range list will occur during the month of May, it is possible for the Committee to decide to move someone from that list to acceptance anytime during the admissions cycle.

Good to know. Thanks!!! Hope you liked it there.

YAY! Just got an interview here after radio silence since 7/15. I'm starting to feel good about this cycle!

hey congrats it took you that long to hear back wow. What do u think my chances are since i turned my secondary in a week ago?

With all the rejections coming out, I'm getting nervous....I want a Tulane interview!! I would love this school 😀

Did anyone stay with a current student the night before your interview? Or did anyone use Tulane's graduate dorm?

I stayed with an MS2 that lived in a house with a couple other med students uptown. A couple people that interviewed the same day as me stayed in the dorms. I definitely think staying with a student is a good idea.

I also stayed with student hosts and highly recommend it! I had a fantastic experience - met their friends and study groups, got to ask a bunch of people questions prior to the interview, got a better sense of the character of the student body...much better than paying to be alone in some hotel room panicking, imo.

Tons of family in baton rouge and lafayette...

And I am a crazy New Orleans Saints fan!!!!!

Man I want in here bad! 😳

we are! See you there!!

😱 I'm checking my e-mail every sec. I'm sooo ansyyy.

I really hope i get an interview invite😀

does a rejection come sooner or does it matter???
Really curious...:xf:

whoa. chill. you need to leave time for people to respond. it's also still really early.

..maybe step away from sdn for a little bit haha

I got the email on 9/3 that I was complete, called today and they still haven't decided. I'm a non-trad - 30 with MBA and finance career (32S, 3.83 GPS, OOS for Tulane). So, it is what it is I guess. Right now, no news is good news I guess, though it is kind of frustrating.

I agree with the sdn comment - it can definitely drive you crazy since most people post here b/c they've received an interview. still very early!

hey what is the e-mail with interview invitation look like?:scared:

Dear Applicant:

Your application for admission to the Tulane University School of Medicine has been reviewed, and the Committee of Admissions has decided to invite you to visit Tulane for personal interviews.

The purpose of the interviews is to give us an opportunity to discover more about you as a person: your interests, goals, and aspirations. At the same time you will have a chance to become acquainted with our program of medical education by meeting some of our faculty and students and by visiting some areas of our facilities.

Your interview appointment has been scheduled for FRIDAY, OCTOBER 23, 2009. You are requested to report to the Office of Admissions and Student Affairs, located on the 15th floor of Murphy Bldg., 131 South Robertson Street, Suite 1550, New Orleans, LA, at 8:30 a.m. on the day of your interview. A schedule of interviews and other activities will be arranged for you on that day, and they will end no later than 2:30 p.m.

Please reply by email no later than ten (10) working days after the receipt of this email invitation, confirming or declining your intent to attend the interview. Without such confirmation, we cannot guarantee your spot in our interview schedule. If you need to discuss the possibility of changing your interview date, please call our office as soon as possible at 504-988-5187, between the hours of 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Central Standard Time. We will make every possible effort to reschedule the interview to a date more convenient to you. However only one rescheduling per applicant is allowed, and we cannot guarantee that another date will be available. If your interview is rescheduled, you must confirm your new date by replying to the original email with the new date included.

Please read the attached document for hotel and transportation information. We look forward to having you visit with us. Thank you for your interest in Tulane University School of Medicine.
Sincerely,

Susana D. Vargas
