hey i'm new to blogging. u are being mean.

Don't worry about it, it's not a big deal. Everyone on here is at least a little stressed, even if they don't admit it, so people can get a little rude at times, but don't think anything of it. Also, trust me when I say this is nothing compared to what you will expect in the real world. I've worked for a top-tier investment bank and pretty much had to deal with much, much worse on a daily basis - just the way certain professions are. Anyway, I know it's hard, but try to calm down a little and things will work out for you. I'm sure if you are this certain about Tulane you will get an interview and then everything will be fine.

i hope ur right. I'm just stressed out and i think this is such a great university. have u heard back from them yet?

we're not being mean, just try to use common sense a little more. it'll REALLY pay off when you get into med school. Some of the ones that work in my lab now never learned it.. and it gets really frustrating sometimes.

breathe, and walk away from sdn for a while.. even if you know everything of what to expect in your inbox, it's not going to make it easier. you'll know when you know.

Anybody know if it's too late in the game to add Tulane on the AMCAS??

Well they finally responded to my inquiry about my status... All I got was "Your application is complete." Looks like no interview from Tulane

When did you inquire? I sent them an email on the 10th.

To be honest I am kind of dreading the reply. I am expecting the same one as you . . .

Actually right around then. Definitely the same week as you... You haven't gotten yours yet so don't give up!

same here, that was a couple weeks ago. but i haven't gotten rejected yet either... does that mean i'm on hold? i have to assume i am because i'm on hold at EVERY SCHOOL

I called them, so it wasn't really a matter of "hearing back." They told me I am still being reviewed at this point...not sure if this means I am on hold or if they are taking forever. Either way, I was assured this is not a rejection and I will receive that information if so.

Hey guys, sorry if someone has asked this before, but does anyone know if Tulane has rolling admission? Im living abroad and trying to decide whether its okay to schedule my interview for Jan rather than my trip in Oct.

Thanks and good luck to everyone!

does anyone know if you can apply to the MPH program during your first year like at other schools? ...or do you have to apply to the joint program for admissions?

Any recs for food to eat in New Orleans? Or easy sights to see?

I'll be arriving the evening before and won't have a vehicle.

Seafood. Preferably the fried kind. So good. 🙂 I don't have a particular fav. restaurant, but there are lots of restaurants to choose from, and I've never been to a bad one. Please don't go to a chain restaurant, though.

i submitted everything july and early august and was only marked complete like a week ago... =( i dont get this entire hiding my application for a while thing

This may be a really dumb question, but how do you even check the status of your application? When I log into the site where I submitted, it just thanks me for submitting...

same here lol...I just figured out who it was too.

nobody applying to the md/mph???! or anyone that knows about it. I'm interested but not 100% certain that I want to do it so I don't want to check it if they only consider you for md/mph or if there is an option to apply to the joint mph program once you've started school..

Deadline for the MD/MPH program application is october 15th... for every year you're in medical school. However, you generally want to start your course work by the second half of your first year, unless you want to take some extra time during the next 4 years to complete your degree. You don't have to do anything for a while.

Edit: by the way, applying for a dual degree does not affect the consideration your application receives. Each aspect is considered separately.

The french quarter is relatively close to the school of medicine (just walk down canal st. towards the river and you'll hit Bourbon St.). There's lots of "New Orleans" food in there. Be sure to hit up cafe du monde on Decatur st.

My application was complete in September and I didn't interview until much later in the season. Have faith :luck:

Dear Mr./Ms. Mod, please delete my next two posts; I figured out how to use the multi-quote tool.

Thanks! I was afraid there'd be too many to choose from and I'd wander into a tourist trap. My goal is to have a little food coma after sampling everything.

Wow. I think I'll bring some of their coffee back home with me. Their hours sure make it easy for breakfast.

Thanks a lot...I ended up digging through the site and kind of answer part of my question. I went ahead and checked MD/MPH on the secondary but I don't think I actually checked that on AMCAS...😱

I was wondering if you all might be able to provide me with some feedback on this. I applied to Tufts and I am not quite sure about my chances. So, I am a Biochemistry major and Spanish minor at a small liberal arts school. I have roughly a 3.82 cumulative gpa and the same for my science gpa. I received a 32R on the MCAT (PS:11, VR:10, BS:11). I have served on the board, each for two years, of the pre-health society, biological society, and habitat for humanity and also formed a humanitarian organization on campus. In addition, I have done chemistry research for 2 years and presented at the ACS conference with several publications on the way, received an award for most strongly embodying the ideal pre-med student (poorly worded, but legit), leadership scholar program and freshman orientation leader, medical internship in Zanzibar, hospice internship and lots of previous volunteering, hospital and pharmacy volunteering, ISLP on HIV/AIDS in South Africa, volunteer at a mentally handicapped facility in India, natural disaster relief work in Peru, and several Habitat mission trips in the US. Would these extras help me out or is the MCAT still too low? Sorry to ramble on for so long but I just wanted to get an idea about my chances.

You make me feel insignificant. So, yes, I'd say you have a good chance.

I think you have a great chance. Don't worry. 👍

This is all impressive, and take what I say with a grain of salt, but have you ever worked a menial job? If you have, I would include it in your write up. I think having practical work experience in your own home-town is just as significant as service in esoteric habitats around the world. Give it a thought; you never know when you will have a crusty old guy on the ADCOM that wants to hear about how you worked a cash register like a normal person. Just my opinion, and I wish I had some of your experience. Good Luck.

i have 5 interviews so far and have NOTHING similar to any of the ECs you have. i'm telling u, every one of your ECs blows mine out of the water. in addition, my gpa is a full .15 lower than yours.

so yes, you have a good chance. when did u apply?

Sounds good...thanks. The oly problem however is that I did not submit my application until 09/15 and it has still not been verified 🙁 I am almost done with all of the secondaries that I have received but I am soooo worried since I am applying sooo late. What do you all think?

Why did you post about Tufts in the Tulane thread?...

Why did you post about Tufts in the Tulane thread?...

Because he posted the same blurb in the Tufts thread and pasted it here.
I think he can get in any school he wants. I think all my ECs combined cannot equal one of his.

ha oops forgot to switch the school. Yeah , Tufts and Tulane are two schools that I am very interested in. I am just nervous about my late application date and fear that I have compromised my chances.

if you don't mind me asking, why did you apply so late? if u applied early like many of us, you could have gotten into a top 10, even a top 5 place with those ECs.

I took the MCAT in May and did not do as well as I had planned, but still did alright. I signed up to retake the MCAT on August 6th and did not want to submit my AMCAS because I was not sure how well I would do and did not want to apply to all of the schools that I did if I ended up doing poorly. I knew that it would not be th ebest thing to wait that late but I thought I might still have a chance at some schools. Do I honestly not have much of a chance at any out-of-state schools?

Until I read this thread, I didn't even know Zanzibar was a real country.

Haha well actually it is a part of the Republic of Tanzania. The mainland used to be called something like "Tanganyika" and then the island was called Zanzibar. They fused the two names to get Tanzania or so I was told by the locals.

Finally complete. They still never answered my e-mail from Sept. 10 about being complete, by I received the automated:

"September 27, 2009

Dear Applicant:
We would like to inform you that your application is complete and under review. You will receive another email once a decision is made on your application. We thank you for your continued patience with the application process and we wish you success."

Anyone else received this? I submitted in August but app was not complete until Sept. 1 when new MCAT came in. Anyone else get this? Now I just wait.....

i also sent them an email asking if i was complete (on the 10th) and i just got a reply today saying that i was. not the automated one but an actual response from a person (i think.)

. . . on a Sunday. weird

I just had a chance to wander around the French Quarter for a few hours.

Excellent art galleries and seafood.

Seems like a really relaxed place, if not a bit touristy at times.

--edit--

I forgot to note that Tulane really is close to FQ. Cafe du monde also wasn't too bad. 🙂

I wasn't marked complete but then got an interview invite. I doubt they would reply to you soon. I'd wait, but if you can't wait then call them.

Thank you, SultanMD.

SO good to know! I'm staying in the FQ for 2 nights (wanted to spend some time exploring and what not before/after interviewing) and am glad to know that my blind pick was a good one. Can't wait!
