Damn it, I swear to God that if I get accepted right the way by Duke or Yale I will withdraw from WashU!!!😡
Too much entitlement. You might not even make it outta the waitlist even if you waited. Mean but quite true.🙄 But you're a super star applicant so you'll have your pick of schools.

haha....you know what...you have some solid schools you've been accepted to. i'd be quite happy if i were in your position right now. but good luck with where you want to get into.

and on the more comical side, i would call duke and yale to accept you...if only i had influence on that kind of stuff haha

does anyone know how the WL works? IIRC, it is unranked....also, are people rejected? i know someone answered my question regarding the number that are waitlisted, but if people arent rejected, we can make a rational guess on the number of people on the waitlist (appx number of interviews - appx number of acceptances).

Sorry I mean I will withdraw from the waitinglist 😉

waitlisted as well. I'm not going here, but I wanted to be under consideration because aren't the recruitment scholarships partially based on where else you get in?

Yeah, but I doubt we'll see much waitlist movement in time to affect other schools' merit offers. It would have to happen before May 15th, which is when most waitlist activity happens. Just my thought. 😕

Waitlisted... Too many things going on today! Anyways.. i had a general feeling i would be waitlisted..

Waitlisted. Is anybody rejected, or has anyone neither received an acceptance nor a waitlist?

You have a top choice at this point? I don't know of anyone who is rejected as of now.

so no rejections means 800 ppl on the WL? not much point in waiting is there?

You also don't know how many people are turning down a spot on the waitlist

Yep. but thats similar to considering the people who are going to turn down the school even though they are already accepted.

back to the point, no rejections?

 Just pointing out that as May 15 gets closer and closer, your chances of getting off the waitlist are probably a bit more optimistic than 50/800 and that there is more than "not much point" in waiting

Last year I was accepted off the wait list on May 18th. I think that was about the first batch of acceptances off the wait list but I could be misremembering. The search function is your friend when it comes to figuring out how these things usually go. 🙂

I have heard that people are rejected but I have no idea if this is true or not. It seems that the majority of people interviewed and not accepted are wait listed.

I know being wait listed can be heart breaking, but try not to let it get you down too much! Many (most? all?) of you already have acceptances. Be thankful for those and be patient with your wait lists. Most wait list movement does not happen until after people are forced to narrow down to just one acceptance. Both my wait list acceptances happened very quickly after that date, but until then I heard nothing from the schools and had no idea what was going on. This process is incredibly unpredictable and mysterious at all stages.

oh okay.
yeah.

i see what u mean.

i just wanna knw like how many ppl get onto the waitlist in the first place.
izit just like everybody they interviewed... or did i do slightly better... something around those lines. 🙂

well doing a search for the word rejection in this year's and last year's threads turns up no real rejections...so im guessing they dont reject post interview

but yea the size of the waitlist is hard to gauge...it probably starts out close to 50/800 and then gets smaller as people withdraw

I think it will be around a 10% chance of getting in for people on the waitlist.

Thanks quirks, did you do anything that may have help you get off the waitlist? Did you send updates, letters of interest, letters of intent, or call them? Thanks.

My heart is broken. ppl say that WashU is a number *****, I guess it's not true.

In general, the numbers thing is completely true for WashU. This point was even confirmed by someone I know who worked at WashU. But you have to understand that there are so many people with those types of numbers that actually apply to WashU (partly because of WashU's heavy recruiting: sending everyone with a 36/37+ a letter urging them to apply). And I doubt anyone with a sub 36 score has been accepted unless they are URM, disadvantaged or a top student at WashU undergrad.

Funny as it seems, the waitlisters that attend WashU will also be people with stats similar to you. My friend at WashU also had a 40/4.0 and was accepted off waitlist. Also, longhorn, I would have a hard time picking WashU over UCLA, but that's just me. In fact, if I get in to UCLA, I doubt I will go to Columbia if I'm accepted there.

Hey guys, have you guys tried to fill out the financial application on the application website? I have tried to fill that out but that I got stuck at the parental information page. It seems like the server doesnt go through. Has anyone experienced that too? Thanks.

They love numbers, but the interview is obviously very important. My numbers were pretty average for Wash U., but the interview went well (especially in comparison to some other schools I interviewed at), and I'm pretty sure that's what did it. Maybe you just had a bad day. Try not to let it get to you - I'm sure with great scores you'll have (or you already have) great options.

Waitlisted. Heard back from 3 school today, 2 waitlists and an acceptance. I am interested in seeing if I get in, because if I do, WashU'll definitely be in the running for where I end up, but it's not as stressful as the first waitlist I received, before I had an acceptance, where I was wondering what was going to happen overall 😛.

Wait list as well. Withdrew. Not the school for me, but good luck to everyone stuck in limbo.

What's better: hand-writing letters to deans or e-mailing them?

in everything that I've sent to schools so far, I've done both-call it overkill, but I want to make sure that they know I want it to get there and its really important to me that they read it 😛 good luck

I sent a combination update letter/ LOI and as I was doing a research year,I also sent a LOR from my PI (who had not written a letter for my original application because I had just started working when I applied). I only called to confirm that my LOR had arrived and added to my application. Honestly, I thought I had no chance of getting in and was just going through the motions. 😳 I didn't get off the wait list I put the most effort into.

eta: I think I emailed my update letter as an attached document, but the LOR was sent snail mail. I remember to some schools I also sent a printed copy of my update letter, but didn't to others. It depended on what they preferred. I only hand wrote thank you notes.

Uh I didn't get anything after interviewing in Mid January. Maybe my region's committee hasn't met yet? By college, I should be south and by home, I should be west...

I talked to admissions today. According to the person I talked to, who did not sound 100% certain, the waitlist includes everyone who has not been accepted thus far and it is not ranked.

I'm glad to be sweating it out with other highly qualified students, though that just limits my chances even more. In four years none of this will matter though, right?

For those of you who are waitlisted, did you get an email back confirming back your response or was the webpage that displayed the confirmation was all that was seen? Also, I went back to my account and when I click on the waitlist inquiry form, the same blank form is displayed. Is it like this for everybody else also? 😕

Thanks for calling, it seems consistent with everything we've seen so far. I interviewed in January and got waitlisted as well; good luck to all of us!

It's like this for me as well - only the webpage confirmation, and no email. Also, when I go back, the same blank form is displayed, but it does say that "the link will stay active so you can add additional responses", so I think that's ok.

Four years if you go to WashU... earlier if you dont 😛

But I dont really care, please dont randomly infer and believe that I want you off the waitlist just so that I have a larger chance of getting into WashU... 😕😕😕

sometimes... premeds are too sensitive 😛

But same here, its nice to still be in the fight. Even if I am very confident that my own odds are kaputtt 👎:laugh: I'm staying till the very end 😛

Muhahahahah!:luck:

Hahah Yeahhh let's all stay on the waitlist until the bitter end! That'll teach them a lesson for making an 800 person waitlist, haha.

So I found out why I didn't get a waitlist email or an acceptance...

Rejection letter in the mail.

I guess the waitlist is at least one less than 800

sorry to hear that, but thank you for sharing with us. good luck with the rest of the application cycle!

Just to reiterate:
There is now a facebook group for accepted students at Wash U. Just search "Wash. U. St. Louis School of Medicine Class of 2014 - Accepted Students" on facebook and request to join. Good luck to all those waiting!

If I didn't get a waitlist notification (I checked both email and status page - nothing), does that mean I am certain to be getting a rejection letter soon, or will they hand out more waitlist notifications?

I thought my interview here went okay and I sent several thank you letters and status updates/LOIs. So I would be a little surprised, except that I only have a 36 MCAT, which makes me one of the low scorers here.

This is my #1 choice, so any hints about the chances I am rejected would be welcome.

I interviewed 1/18 and my letter was dated 3/3. I'm also a re-applicant.

So I guess I will know that I'm rejected in about a week, when the post office manages to deliver the letter to Boston? 🙁

I emailed them to ask and learned that I was rejected. It seems most rejection letters were sent out around 3/2 or 3/3.

D'oh. E-mail from Dean Dodson this morning. Looks like I'm SOL for merit-based aid. Probably not going here
