Do what you think is right, but the adcoms can see that you got a 4.0 again after that. I don't really think it is anything to worry about. You probably have like a 3.9 so it will be ok.

Yeah, I'm leaning toward that mindset as well. Like I said, I'm tempted to ignore the essay just because there weren't any "special" circumstances that influenced those grades (death in the family, major illness, etc.). Any other opinions before I finalize my decision?

Is the four week deadline for just the online submission or for everything to be in (online submission, Dean's certification, photo)?

NVM, please refer to LAman's post instead since he directly contacted their offices.

Hi everyone,

I'm doing the secondary app, and I have no clue how the "Dean's Certification" works. Can anyone explain to me what is it and how it works? Who I have to bring this form to and how to submit the form? Do I ask the signer of the form to send it on my behave or I send it myself?

Print it and take it to your school's judicial office (or whatever they call it) and ask them to fill it out. I'm sure they've seen it before. Either they can send it or you can. I sent mine and it was no problem.

THx !

If you have already completed you education, if your college or graduate education was interrupted, or if you do not plan to be a full-time student during the current year, describe in chronological order your activities during the time(s) when you were not enrolled as a full-time student. (maximum 1800 characters including spaces)

I have a question. Do they mean the upcoming academic year 09-10 or are they talking the past? Should I answer this question or ignore it if I am graduating in this summer?

Current year = 09-10 year. You should answer it.

Sorry for whole bunch of dumb questions,....
I've pressed the submit bottom and submitted my secondary application, but I haven't uploaded my picture yet. I cannot login to the secondary app page. So how can I upload the pic?

Hi, how are you guys dressed in your pictures? I just did a head shot with me wearing a t-shirt.. do you think they'd actually care that i'm not wearing a tie and all that

Try logging out and logging in again. I think it let me put the pic after I submitted the application.

You should always be able to login. I still can and my app is complete.

Oh, and I'm wearing a dress in the picture, but you can't really tell that.

As for the picture goes, I did not have a tie. Just a casual shirt.

I have been having a problem with uploading a picture. Even though it asks for a .jpeg pic, and mine is .jpeg, when I try to upload it, it gives me an error message saying the picture should be in a JPG(which I think is the same as .jpeg) format. Has anyone been getting this? Thanks.

It's probably just checking the extension, not whether it's actually a jpg. Just rename it from pic.jpeg to pic.jpg, and it should work.

Omg I struggled with this for SO LONG last week with another school. The two extensions are NOT the same. There are plenty of programs that you can download on Windows to turn the picture into a jpg file. Just renaming the extension will NOT work in this case. I usually work on a Mac however, and so I had to mail the picture to a Windows laptop and then play around with it there.

JPEG images can either have .jpg or .jpeg extension (according to JPEG specifications), but .jpg is way more common (as most file extensions are only three letters). So, in Luboy's case, it could either be a non-JPEG image with the wrong .jpeg extension or an actual JPEG image with a .jpeg extension that just the website doesn't like. If it's not a JPEG image, you would have to open it up in an image editor and save it as JPEG with .jpg extension. If it is a JPEG, and the website just doesn't like the .jpeg extension, all you have to do is just rename it to .jpg. I would still try just renaming it first.

So I'm applying to WashU MSTP, and I had a question about how I should document the letters.

I am having individual letters submitted not a packet, but one is from my Premed Advisor, so for discipline should I just put "Premed Advisor"?

Also, I want to submit more than the 4 slots they have, but there are spaces for listing research mentors submitting letters in the MSTP part of the app. Should I double-list my research mentor on both parts or just list him in the MSTP? Will the MD committee not look at that letter if I do that (probably the most important letter for me)?

Thanks!

How long did it take after you paid for the checkmark to appear next to "application service fee"? It's been 2-3 days since my payment and it still hasn't appeared. My application says incomplete (but that's also because my dean's certification and LOR's haven't been received yet).

Anyone know about this payment deal?

Probably cause it's the weekend. If it doesn't get updated tomorrow, call them and check.

I'm a MSTP applicant too! It seems to get tricky with figuring out what the med school will look at and what the MSTP will look at. I would maybe contact them and ask them to be safe, but I would think you would want to list your PI for both the regular supplemental and also the MSTP portion.

I had a pre-med committee packet, so I put the packet under the MD-portion and then just listed the PIs individually for the MSTP.

Hi all,

I am not currently an applicant to Wash U in St. Louis, but I received a letter from them inviting me to apply. Money is really getting tight, and I feel as though if anything, I should be adding more mid-tier schools rather than top-ten schools to my app, but-- is this something they send to pretty much everyone? Should I just give it a shot and go for it?

Sorry for posting this in here-- it may not be the appropriate place to post. I guess what I'm asking is-- what's motivated you guys about Wash U to apply to the school?

Yeah, I just got a letter from them too.... I think they send it out to people with really high MCAT scores who still haven't applied to their school.

I'm not applying though.

To be honest, one of the main reasons I am applying there is that I really like St. Louis. There are other reasons though.

What's this stuff about a four-week deadline? I haven't heard about this anywhere but sdn.

"The Supplemental Application should be completed within four weeks and no later than December 31, 2009, whichever comes first."
Huh...There is no way I can have the dean's certification or letters within 4 weeks. So should I not bother applying? That doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I have no idea how to get to the website you listed from the admissions page. Why would they tuck it away where almost no one can find it?

Hmmm well I just submitted with my PI only in the MSTP part. It seems that those four slots are the "main" ones that they will wait for until your app is complete, and all others "will be added to your file" so I figure if it's in my file they'll read it. We'll see how that turns out!

The 4 week deadline doesn't include the dean's list letter or LOR I'm pretty sure. Plus, I don't think it's too strict. I actually didn't know about it until recently, after having submitted my secondary, and it took me about 5 weeks. They did send me a "reminder" email after 4 weeks that basically said something along the lines that I should think about submitting in the near future.

Hey guys-
Kind of a stupid question here (I think), but when we're filling out who's sending in rec letters, we're putting in the professor's discipline, not our own, correct? (i.e. Chemistry discipline for an Orgo prof, electrical engineering for a prof that taught us programming, etc.)

Better safe than sorry I figure 🙄

And one more quick one, how exactly would you enter in AP credit into the sections? Should we put the course number that it was equivalent to or something?

EDIT: Also, for the 4th letter, do you think I could submit one from my volunteer supervisor? Or should I simply stick to teachers?

I submitted this secondary around 15th June, Any idea when they send out interview invites?

hey guys im applying mstp, and for whatever reason, i'm having difficulty interpreting the following question; Please give a brief description (no longer than 6 sentences) of the area of biomedical science you are most interested in studying.

so does that mean like the specific thing I want to focus on in my PhD training, or the type of disease/disease I want to study?

Cool, another MSTP applicant! What I did was basically just give a short description of the PhD field I am most interested in (DevBio), and alluded to the implications to medicine. But I'm sure if you have a specific disease you're really set on that may be good, too.

...and ironically as I write this I get my complete e-mail, though my primary's not verified yet...

Dean's certification is not included in the 4 week deadline. I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that you just have to have the Dean's certification in by the time you go to interview, or something like that.

Anyone have any ideas on when they send out interview invites?

Last year the first invite went out on Sept. 11.

I feel soooo stupid applying here🙁 It's an amazing school, and the only medical school outside of Florida that I have actually visited...and seen and loved. But I think my GPA is going to give me an auto-reject post-secondary.

I think WashU is a "long shot" for ALL applicants LOL. But your MCAT score is sick and ECs are decent. You never really know what these schools are looking for. Good luck.

edit: AND you've been reincarnated as Bruce Lee on the planet of Starcraft... talk about diversifying the student body.

Haha thanks. Good luck to you as well. And yes, I flow like water on the planet of Starcraft...

I'm kinda almost in the same boat as you. We shall see how it lands eh?

Does anyone know how rejections are notified? I heard it was via snail mail, confirmation anyone?
