What would that accomplish for washu? It would make more sense if they gave 2 interviews to the 'bottom' 30%. or maybe its random? I dont really understand it 🙂

EDIT: hmmm or the second interviewer could be a new interviewer they are trying to train (via comparison of interview evaluations with the more experienced interviewer)?

How would the bottom 30% make sense? If you're strongly leaning on accepting a student to your school, it would make sense to give the extra man power to that student. It seems very similar to call-backs for music, acting, etc try-outs.

Presumably the top applicants they are likely to want anyway, so the extra interview isn't very useful. For the people lower on the hierarchy, where the interview is more important, having two there gives you more useful information.

My thinking was that your top 30% are just that - the students you are already very interested in and won't need a 'second opinion' to figure out. The interview might be a formality for some - as long as they aren't psychotic, the top few are pretty much in the bag. For your bottom 30% you are maybe less sure. Maybe you'd like to get a better feel by having two people approach and talk to them.

That said, I feel like it's probably random.

i would find that a fairly disturbing practice. if a school acted like that, i wouldn't want to go there

Huh?what does the above mean? Does it mean that we have to travel to st. louis twice? I'm not gonna do that!

That was only my hypothetical conjecturing in response to the earlier post about it being for the top 30% of applicants. In all likelihood it's probably random 🙂 you can feel safe and secure in applying to WashU.

haha yaa i got it. they should treat all applicants the same!

All men were created equal.... All med school applicants? that's a different story. not everyone is walking into the interview on equal ground. there are definitely going to be some applicants who are better than others. it's the school's job to identify which ones they want. if they're unsure of certain applicants, then they'll probably want all the information they can get.

okay, but they need to give every person who is interviewing the same treatment. i mean, every other school does. it's not a foreign concept here

An advisor's reference manual states that applicants receiving 2 interviews are "chosen at random for quality assurance", essentially WashU's way of checking that their interview process yields consistent, accurate information about their applicants. I don't think it would be okay for them to systematically pick people to benefit more from the interview day.

Congrats on those who've gotten invites!

Yeah I'm pretty sure the second interview is just for consistency reasons and/or training purposes.

I really hope I hear from them soon.... I've been complete since mid-july...

even if it's for consistency, its stupid. i'd imagine many ppl wouldn't want to have an extra interview, and see others only having one.

That depends. If you have good EC's, high stats, etc and you did well in your first interview, the next interview is just an opportunity to mess up. If you messed up your first interview or you have low stats, impressing two people might be in your favor.

ok this may seem like a fairly dumb question but...
I just checked the wums apply website and I can click on "visit arrangements" and even choose an interview date (it asks me to confirm)
can everyone do that or is it like an early notice of interview status?

I'd assume only invitees can do that.

thanks
I just checked last year's thread and it looks like it's an early interview status

it sounded fishy initially because my status on the website hadn't changed, I received no email, and...I was only complete a little over a week ago

Yeah, so fishy that you'd get an interview with those stats, especially here. 🙄

this process is more than stats!
although i guess wash U is a stats ***** 🙂
but cmon I didn't think they would go over my app in just a week...plus I don't even have my dean's certification in..gimme a break it's my first interview invite!

You're preaching to the choir here, buddy. I know how you feel. 😛

I am excited for this interview-i hope my mcat isn't too low for this school lol

hmmm.....i was complete on 7/10, but still haven't heard from washu, im getting worried...

invite this afternoon; kind of shocking considering my GPA is the picture of mediocrity.

What does that mean? I would guess the top 30% of applicants get 2 interviewers.

when i went last year, they told us that it was random and it was for training purposes for new interviewers (IIRC). The people who had two interviews just had a couple in the same day, no second trip.

Hey, is it just me or when you went to choose your interview day on the website, was there only one available day for all of this year and next? I felt bad scheduling it on a Tuesday and missing two days of work, but the post-doc I'm working with and I are pretty much like BFF and she said it was okay.

yeah, there was only one choice for me as well (though it wasn't a tuesday). the date worked fine for me, so i took it, but it was kind of strange to not have at least a couple of options.

Not to put you on the spot, but do you mind telling me your GPA and MCAT scores? I'm kind of in the same boat, decently high MCAT (38) and pretty low GPA (3.4) I figured it was pretty much an impossibility, but they sent me a letter asking me to apply (due to my MCAT, undoubtedly) so I thought, eh why not give it a shot.

I am a recent WUSM graduate. I just wanted to clarify the "two interviewer" confusion. Most often when you have two interviewers, one of the two is learning to interview or practicing his or her interviewing skills. This way they can quality control the "new interviewers". Just wanted to help relieve some anxiety.

Hey guys,

I just got a "visit arrangements" tab on my status page, which appears to be an early indication of an interview invite, over the weekend. I did not receive an e-mail and my status has not changed from complete.

I just wanted to let everyone know so that they can check as well. (I was complete in early September, if that helps any. Also, there are several dates in mid and late October still available).

Best of luck, and I'm really excited to get to see some of you guys at the interview. This is one of my top choices and I'm really ecstatic to interview here. I just hope somebody else gets a nice surprise when they check their status page.

Best of luck,
-Dr. P.

Am very excited to have received my first interview invite, and just have a few questions:

Has anyone already completed their interview? If so, whenabouts did the day end? I'm trying to make travel plans right now, and I'd like to book a flight at 6 pm of the day of the interview. Is this a good idea?

Also, does everyone generally attend to pizza event the night before? I'm coming from the other side of the continent and I likely won't make it to St. Louis until almost midnight.

Thanks everyone!

I came across a page on Wash. U. website that gives a rough time line of the day, and seems like the interview ends around 3:00 pm, and it's a 30 min travel to the air port, so you should be fine with 6:00pm. My flight is at 5:30, I'm the one to worry about this.. lol.

Can anyone else not access the status site right now?

Nope, I can't either. Seems like their server is down.

I can finally log back in to the website. I don't see any of this interview stuff you all have mentioned. Where is it?

Recently, I recieved a letter in mail from WashU, telling me that I should apply to their school considering my MCAT score. However, I was complete8/6 and my scores arrived 8/18. Does this letter mean that they dont know that my file is ready for review?

maybe it just means they don't really look at the names when they send out those letters - just make a list from mcat scores and mass-send them? dunno

hey guys, i'm an MS 1 here at washu. i was just perusing these boards today because i know the earliest interviewees will be coming in tomorrow. just wanted to wish you guys good luck. also, people worried about the two interviewer thing. that has nothing to do with who you are as a candidate, it's just their way of making sure less experienced interviewers don't screw up. i didn't believe them when they told me this at my interview, but a couple of people asked about it after enrolling and they reiterated that it has nothing to do with the candidate. good luck again guys.

It should be under "Visit Arrangements" on the left hand side.

Based on a discussion earlier in the thread, some people don't have it and instead had to call in to schedule their interview.

It should have directions on what to do in your invite email, either way.

i don't remember any scores from high school, and i don't even remember my exact class size. oops

Thanks! I was wondering if you could tell us what makes washu stand out? Is there something special about the curriculum, organizations, international opportunities? Or is the main attraction its excellent reputation?

interview invite, pretty unexpected. Complete 8/21.

Too bad their acceptance rate after interview is around 33%.

Hey, in case some of you were wondering "where they are" with interviews...

Just set up an interview for 10/29. I was complete 9/16.

I keep rechecking my status/email to make sure they didn't mess up...

:scared:
