Just got an interview invite today. Set it up for 10/30, a Friday. Pretty excited, is it really true what they say about WashU emphasizing stats over pretty much all else? Or is that not really the case. 😕

Isn't their median still a 36? Not that different from other top schools. I feel like once you have an interview you're on equal footing with everyone else who has an interview. They could fill their class up with 40's if they wanted. You got an invite! Enjoy it!!!!!! They like you!

Apparently stats aren't everything...my interview invite here is a testament to that! It was completely unexpected, but needless to say, I am absolutely thrilled! There's hope for us all I guess! 🙂

is anyone else having trouble accessing the schedule on the website? I have an interview tomorrow morning and I wanted to re-check the schedule...weird

What makes washu unique? It seems like a pretty traditional place.

Their median is a 38, which is markedly higher than any other school (next highest are a bunch of schools with medians of 36, IIRC). I believe this is the reason they get the reputation of being the most stats heavy school.

I can't believe I applied here - I think the odds of me getting an interview here are so astronomically low....given that my own state schools hate me.

I was complete on July 25 but haven't heard about anything regarding an interview. Should I consider myself rejected?

are you going to be in the midwest any time soon? you could send an "in the area" email just to get a feel for where they're at. it's a very well-run admit office.

I'm a bit wary of doing something like that. I don't want to sound like I'm fishing for an interview, nor do I want to fish for an interview in the first place. I just get a little discouraged when I see interviews being given out to people who were complete as recently as September, and I've been complete for over two months.

I feel that. I received the "complete" email June 29th, and that was the last I heard from them.

If it makes you feel better, I was "complete" in August but I had sent in all my stuff in July and I just heard from them last week.

That helps somewhat, thanks. At this point, money is becoming an issue for me, so its not like I can go to very many more interviews anyways.

Got my interview schedule. I'm one of the lucky few with two interviews... joy. 🙄

Pretty much confirms the theory that they give 2 interviews to their "lesser" candidates. Especially cause I only got 1.

P.S. We're interviewing on the same day. We're gonna bond so much! 😀

that makes the three of us here. be nice to me. its my first interview.

and i think its easy to guess how many of us will be there, i say around 20.

since our dear nicole the pizza dinner organizer sent an email to all of us =) and i saw some wonderful schools in teh form of yale, duke and upenn...

but i guess. she may be organizing a FEW pizza dinners :S

Yeah, I didn't know if that was just the one day or the interviewees for a few days or what...

yea i kinda edited it back in that i wasnt too sure how many pizza dinners she was holding.

gotta love my internet for how slow it is =)

Anyone know how many people interview per day?

I was just there- I think there were nine of us interviewing.

As a side note, I was soooo impressed with WashU! Absolutely loved it! :biglove: :xf: 😍

sounds amazing =)
thanks for the update.

man doesnt that mean that sdn is nearly going to be a majority?
3 on the same day now. out of 9 too.

Had a similar moment at Case Western... lol

hey all
I've been trying to prep for this interview by looking through some of the posts on the interview feedback database. I noticed one common thread was detailed questions about your research. For those who have already interviewed, how in-depth were these questions exactly? It's my first interview so thanks!

Few questions for anyone who can answer them.

Does wash u use rolling admissions?
What happens after your application is received (do they go in order, does a committee vote on your application, only one reviewer, two reviewers, etc)? What's the typical turnaround time?
What's the interview rate?
Do they actually need to receive the Dean's certification letter before they consider your application? (I don't like my Dean, and don't want to ask him for anything if I'm going to get rejected anyway).

I put wash u on my original list, but never bothered to submit a secondary since it's in Missouri (Missouri sucks). But I've heard good things about WUSTL, I'm starting to reconsider. Thanks guys.

haven't interviewed...but you should know your research cold and its application/purpose. also be able to explain it in simple terms.

Oh good, my interview is with the assistant dean of admissions. And to think, for a second there, I was starting to feel nervous. :scared:

Anybody know how WashU does merit scholarships? I'm male so Olin is out. Do you have to come in for a second interview? When do they notify about merit scholarships?

When do you find out your interviewer, or the interview times?

About 3 days before your interview. They'll send you an email about it too, although I noticed it was up about a day early, for me at least.

Uh ohs.. I'm about to board my flight.

wow. just got an interview invite this morning at 6am. wasn't really checking the status page or anything because i'd been complete since... july 7th. 😱

i'm not sure if this has been posted earlier in the forum (and i'm at work so i feel bad about scrolling through this forum with my boss sitting right behind me), but where are you guys who have interviews staying? Olin hall, or with current students?

For those of you guys that have been there is the breakfast worth going to? Are there groups there besides the three they described, because I dont exactly fit in any of those.

Well I suppose I'll answer the last few questions.

Regarding my dean lady, EVERYONE at Wash U loves this woman. I asked about a dozen students what they thought, and it was crazy seeing people's eyes like legitimately light up when I said her name. I thought the interview was fine, although with all the enthusiasm I might've expected more I suppose. A lot of it was very routine interview stuff. Although she took kindly to my attempts at humor and started to get a little excited when I mentioned Green Day, cause the students all told me she loves them. Oh, and she never asked me about my research, surprisingly enough, especially cause she is a PhD. But I was kind of glad about that actually. She basically just asked about my family, what I like to do for fun, etc.

I stayed at Olin. I think it's the way to go. It's free, optimally located within seconds of where you need to be for your interview, and they give you like everything you could possibly need (including little deoderant packets, which I thought was kind of weird). But toothbrush, tooth paste, towels, soap, shampoo, etc. The rooms are typical college dormrooms, so don't expect a hotel style queen bed. But hopefully you've gotten used to a dorm by now.

About the breakfast, I'd go. You're only waking up an extra 30 minutes early, they give you 7 dollars to spend which goes a decent ways, and you get to talk to the students (I wasn't even aware there was any kind of group affiliations). Plus most people have at least one interview before lunch, so I don't know about you, but I need some fuel to help my brain process.

Scholarship stuff... basically, they offer usually 12 merit based scholarships per year, and they're given out around May 15th she said. So you kind of already have to have accepted a place as a Wash U student. I can't remember specific details about how they select those students, but someone else might be able to clarify. Don't think there's a second interview.

Anyhow, Wash U was great I thought. I was a little worried about their 2nd year, but the 1st year seems to be no real problem, the faculty are awesome, and they seem to have a great children's hospital.

Haha, I knew who you were for sure. I kept looking around at the pizza party and wondering what happened to you, and lo and behold, like 5 minutes before everyone dispersed, you came rumbling in with your LSU jacket. I guess I purposely didn't say or do anything to give myself away, maybe even occasionally playing dumb a little bit. But we definitely talked some. I mean, we didn't necessarily "bond so much" per se, but we had more than the typical small talk. But maybe you chatted it up with everyone, so I don't know if that means anything. I think I only really talked to about half of the interviewees. Too many people to get to really know them all. I would have preferred a smaller group. FYI for other people reading, I think there were maybe 18 or so of us, which they said was an unusually large interviewing group.

Oh, P.S. I thought it was funny when you asked that girl why she chose Wash U over her California state schools, and the guy next to her said that for him, it was cause none of the California schools accepted him. Before he said that, I was thinking the same thing; it's probably easier for a high stats person to get into Wash U than one of the better UCs. I'd think.

 Def. agree about the interview group thing though. Way too many people! Hopefully it won't be this way for too many more groups. I think I know who you are now... just going by the fact that you are from NC. But I'm not totally sure.

me thinks there were exactly 20 of us there.it was an amaazing expereience. i have never seen faculty/staff pamper students so much! perhaps its just me from uoft where we need that C+ average..

my interviewer was really nice. and we did talk about health care systems tho =) but it was all conversational, and i learnt alot abt what else to talk about for the rest of my interviews. (since this is my first... inexperienced!!!!)
but he was so nice, i kinda wished he grilled me abit more.. but it was a honest talk, about all my feelings about medicine, so at least i know that ill be accepted or not, based on those ideas

the students were awesome.

anyway. yea. i posted on ur md apps.
i recall 3 white caucasian males.

either ways i had so much fun. i just know my interview wasnt as super amazing as an M1 who was looking at her interviewer's grandchildren photographs -.- lsat year

i really like washu. meh.

Well I don't like to think of myself as caucasian, but the way it's more broadly defined, I technically fall under the heading. I think I tried to list myself as other, but it changed to caucasian automatically or something. So that's probably throwing you off. And yeah, I can't remember any other guys from North Carolina, so I think you have it ksmi.

Nice to kinda meet you. Since now your IRL self and your SDN self are still separate for me. This is why you should have told me that IRL you is SDN you. I like meeting SDN peeps.

ah damn i got it wrong then? im not good with memorizing american geography. and i tink it wouldnt be safe if i just started guessing names...

i really have no idea. north carolina just isnt a good clue for me...
a not so white caucasian/male would be ... japanese noodles?

😀

i loved washu... but i tink it could be because im so new to this thing. but at toronto the faculty doesnt care if we live or die. they just want their bell curve... and washu just seemed so different i just fell in love. sigh =(

MEH.

Well think of it this way.. now it's like you have 2 new friends, instead of one. 😉
