60 day mark is coming up soon. I really hope I get an interview! Have there been applicants who made it to the 60 day mark but got rejected?

It now seems the likely invitation point has moved to the 67 day mark (after being complete) We may be the first ones to find out if it is true, or if we are flat down rejcted 😱

I received my 30 day email on Sep 19. Haven't heard anything since then...

Holy crapoly, I have never heard it explained like that!!! Daunting.

While wondering how I possibly got in, it reinforces the notion that BU is looking among the vast sea of applicants for those with a particular set of qualities.

Being comfortable and interested in serving an underserved population would appear to be a critical requirement. I can't think of many (any) of my classmates who had not done some kind of work, particularly in a clinical setting, with an underserved population of patients, in the US or abroad.

No offense to some of you, but 3.9/35 applicants are a dime a dozen and there are plenty of schools that want those applicants. BU wants other stuff.

Frankly, as a third year, this med school has met and exceeded my wildest expectations. For those still in play, this place is worth the effort. I am working 10-12 hours a day in the hospital and 3+ more hours studying for the shelf. Totally loving it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hmm, if 3.9/35 are a dime a dozen, then what about 3.6/33? A dime a thousand?

Any invites today?

It is the 67 day mark for the complete 9/22 applicants.

Good luck!

has anyone who's applied mdphd gotten anything at all from bu? i haven't even gotten a 30 day letter and it's been much longer, i think.

Yea, I applied to MD/PhD also and I haven't received any news from them. I was complete 8/4...so it has been a while. I guess the MD/PhD reviewing is slower than MD only

to answer my question, i looked at last year's thread (i need to stop doing this) and it seems as though people got rejected after the 60 day mark as well. i think for some reason people are just choosing not to post this year.

Interview invite today!

Complete 8/23

So Excited interview on Nov 10!

Whoa, totally was not expecting this AT ALL! I got an interview invite this morning. Last week I was worrying about the 3-week rejection email, and I was waiting for the 30-day email this Friday, but to my surprise I got the invite quick!

I love Beantown and cannot wait to come back to this city for some Boston fun 😍!

But how weird was this? I think only one other person in this thread also got an interview pre-30 day email. Wondering why this might be, but happy it happened 😀.

Hey SDNers! I'm interviewing on the 15th but a multi-legged trip has placed me in Boston a full day early... any fellow interviewers/current students want to meet up with me on the 14th and go explore the city? Traveling around with a partner/group sounds like more fun then poking around the city myself 😀

finally got some love from BU

GMS student, 30 day e-mail 9/10, ii: 11/3

stokeddd

Finally got an invite today!! 🙂

First response from any school is a rejection from BU. Reading through the thread I can't say I'm shocked. 3.6/36Q.

Ya, I was pretty late in the cycle. Thanks for the encouragement. I am not too worried...yet. It's just that the waiting is a little bit unbearable.

So I'll be at 67 days tomorrow, but apparently that day has stopped holding meaning? I guess I'll see soon...

It holds! Interview invite today, on my 68th day post complete date! G' luck everyone!

I got myself in trouble ... two weeks ago I booked my interview on 11/15, but I have to cancel it now because of a mandatory meeting that I did not know earlier. But BU can not give me any other interview spot this or next month ... the only available spots are after new year, and I think the chance of acceptance gets dimmer by then :-(
Moral of the story is, don't book your interview date unless you're absolutely sure you can attend. Rescheduling doesn't always work.
Meanwhile, anyone who wants to interview earlier might ask BU if there is a vacant spot on 11/15. I hate to waste it like this.

Dude, interview >>>> meeting..

That is unless you have multiple interviews elsewhere and/or have an acceptance already.

Not necessarily. According to Dr. Witzburg on our interview day, BU accepts the vast majority of their class in March in order to give later interviewees equal footing with earlier applicants.

Interview invite today!! The two dates I was given was November 29th and January 11th (!). The January date seemed pretty random...are they not interviewing in December?

I got the 30 day email on 9/22, so this was 72 days post-complete.

I interviewed a few days back and I think people should be less worried about when they interview (though fall is better because they defer people from fall to be considered in spring so even though there are more seats to fill in spring there are also a lot more applicants because of those deferred from the fall) and more about the amount of people they actually accept. I think Dean Witzburg said somewhere along the lines of 200-250 out of the 1,000 people interviewed for a class of 120. Also in the past years the waitlist either hasn't moved or moved very little. This is a hard school to get into just because of the statistics.... Beautiful school though.

Personally I'd go in the november date to be considered with the december reviewed apps that get responses in january, granted its right after thanksgiving and may ruin your thanksgiving because you need to prepare for it.

Good luck. Oh and thanks for your help earlier today. 🙂

I will most definitely be going in November. It helps that I live here so travel is not a factor. Also, you are very welcome!

interview invite yesterday!!
complete 8/26
30day: 9/25
ii: 11/4

~70 days for me.

dates: nov29 or jan11- so of course I chose Nov
GL everyone!!

I just noticed that BU asks you to give them a copy of your transcript, which is surprising, because I thought schools had access to that! Anyway, I assumed that BU wanted to interview me despite the fact that I have a C+ in Orgo and a B- in Physics -- they don't even know about it! Hah. Anyway, I'm hoping this doesn't severely impact my application at this point, but should I make a point to bring it up in my interview, or is that a bad move?

The grades aren't really due to extenuating circumstances, I just didn't really learn to study effectively until my junior year. Also, I was sick for the first 3 weeks of my Orgo I class and didn't return to school until right before the first midterm, but that sounds like such a bad excuse and I feel like I can't really say that. 🙁

i haven't heard anything for MD-PhD either, for bu and a bunch of other schools. i think the md-phd programs just move a little slower.

On renovations. If you're here interviewing, you should walk up to the 2nd floor, which was just recently overhauled into new classrooms. A lot of people study there instead of the library, b/c each classroom has giant white boards and chalk boards to work on. And it also looks amazing. I dunno why they don't show the 2nd floor during interview tours.

Also, yes the library closes at midnight, but the med building itself is open 24 hours. So if you're a late-night studier there are lots of rooms to study in past midnight. I know this was a big deal for some people.

One of the downsides to the area is the lack of open food places late at night. But you can have pizza delivered to the school, great for group study sessions.

the second floor is now where the interview day starts.

Very true. And yes i agree BU is a beautiful school except for the dingy med student lounge and auditoriums. But I think there will be a time when they renovate it in the future though there are no current plans. I say that because they already started last year with huge rennovations of the library. And a lot of schools these days seem to be renovating their buildings. So perhaps maybe if they get the money for it their next task will be to renovate the older auditoriums and eventually the student lounge.

But where it really counts, BU really excels. And by this I mean

1. Great faculty. I cannot rave on enough about the amazingness of the Course director for the spring med physio class. She is amazing. The course director for histo, both the GMS one and the med student spring class and she's very precise and systematic. Her teaching is awesome. She has little models to show things too made from things like toilet paper roles and sponges. I've never seen a teacher get that creative. There are others who are equally as great and people say the same about the clinical faculty who are medical students there. I'm sure slowbutsteady can attest.

2. Talent, diversity, and quality of the students who attend there. I saw so many very nice, talented, bright medical students there when I was there. Unlike some schools where it seems like ethnic and personal diversity are not really there though there are bright kids, BU seemed to pride itself in representing every race, every nationality, people with different experiences. I saw at their med student talent show one night that the kids were very not just academic robots but really talented in music and arts and singing and playing instruments. They were very creative and not just your typical cliche premed types.

3. Strong clinical opportunities and research opportunities.

Good luck to those of you who are interviewing. I hope it works out for the ones who really want to go here.

I can so attest. I am in my 4th rotation now, and the clinical mentoring is A+. It is mind blowing how much I have learned since June.

And yes, terrific student body -- smart, diverse, supportive, interesting, talented, fun!! (Also, the best looking women I have ever seen in one place!)

And yes, research opportunities!!

It is bordering on embarrassing how much I love this school. And Boston!

i think i fell in love with this school.

show me some lurvin BU, i promise ill be faithful 🙄

Clarifying some numbers (purely from memory, so please correct if wrong, but I think this is 80% correct)

600-700 will be interviewed pre-January. The committee will meet during the first week of December to deliberate on those interviewed already. They will take 100, reject 300, and defer 300 to review in March. From January to March, they will interview another 300-400 students, and they will take ~200 from this new pool of 600-700.

I thought Dean Witzburg was an absolutely fascinating speaker. At the conclusion of our interview day, he gave this little speech not selling BU, but about how we should look at the med school application process in general and how we should ultimately pick the school that we want to attend. It was truly genuine advice given not so much from the Admission Dean of a med school, but rather that from a trusted mentor or almost a parent. I think everyone present really appreciated his advice, and it gave us all something special to walk away with as we return to our homes and continue to face this battle until May. It's easy to see that he absolutely loves his job, and I truly do not think he has any sort of "facade" (as one person commented on the interview feedback?!).

To all the people interviewing, don't be scared to go up to him at the end of the day. He's super friendly! : )

According to this website seems like HALF of the interviewed people are likely to get accepted no..?

What's the easiest way to get to the greyhound bus station from the school? (I'm guessing that is where the china town bus to NY leaves...)

Mano would you mind sharing your complete date ?

Sure. And sorry, I didn't get the invite yesterday, I got it last week (11/3 I believe). And it was early September...I believe 9/3 that I was complete.

Why does it feel like I was the first one to not follow the general timeline? It'd be nice to at least hear something like either a rejection or an interview and not be left in the dark.

Complete 8/26, 30-day 9/25 and still nothing.

Sigh........
