If you see me on Monday, well, you'll know it's me.
I'm not trying to make you feel bad, I don't think I bashed you, and I brought it up now because I've been out of town interviewing this entire week. If you posted saying that the issue was settled because, based on the previous discussion, you had dropped the class, I didn't see it. You've had a great app season, and taking a biochem class is not anything worth being neurotic about! Again, I'm telling you that you don't need to take the class this semester, regardless of when you hear back. I mean, there are two possible outcomes, right? One, you could be accepted as late as the end of May, in which case you would take the class in June (and even do it online if necessary-people have done it before). Two, you could be rejected, in which case you don't have to take biochem at all before med school.I have personally mentioned biochem exactly four times in this thread over a course of several months, once asking about the requirement (in a "can I do this online" way), and once as commiseration with a fellow poster who has somehow not been lynched over the same thing. That's twice in four months that I mentioned I would like to hear back soon with that additional reason. I hardly think it's a fair characterization to say I've been "complaining about it for weeks or even months"--that's bull****.
Also, I really wasn't complaining, I was simply stating the additional reason why I would prefer to hear back sooner rather than later. I don't whine IRL, I'm a logic driven person.
Furthermore, the most recent issue was settled, there is no reason to continue bringing it up except to try and make me feel bad.
I like you folks, I certainly hope ya'll don't think I'm a whiny bitch who somehow warranted a subsequent public forum bashing like that. Not cool, man. What happened to fun and supportive CWRU thread? ****.

It is not wise to challenge penguinja!I am a conscientious non-observer of Case Thread post-topping! 3 posts just to secure a "top post" is a heinous, heinous crime. Punishable by death, I hear!
Practice, my son.Secretly I want a top post too.

Myuu mentioned previously that East Cleveland at night is not really safe, can this be said for most of downtown Cleveland? I used to use this website for Chicago that gives crime statistics by neighborhood (http://chicago.everyblock.com/crime/). Is there something similar for Cleveland?
Case and CCF are both in an urban neighborhood, and yes, you should be aware of your surroundings whenever you visit any city, including here. However, neither campus is located anywhere close to downtown, and I can't really speak as to the safety of downtown Cleveland at night. I've gone downtown during the day several times and have not had any issues.Myuu mentioned previously that East Cleveland at night is not really safe, can this be said for most of downtown Cleveland? 45 min. south is the Cuyahoga Valley National Forest and it has plenty of ups and downs to challenge most hikers. Lots of variety in the trees and some spectacular vistas, especially in the fall. Sandstone cliffs also make this area special. Try Top O' the World, Wolfs Ledges or O'Neil's Woods are some of my favorites. The Cuyahoga Trail is 13 miles long (most of the other trails are 2-3 mile quick hitters) and winds through the park, including a stretch along some of the old Erie Canal locks, which are pretty cool( if you like that sort of thing🙂). And of course you can stop in the neat little village of Peninsula for ice cream! (Hey ya gotta have a goal when you're hiking or biking!)Cleveland area question for you folks:
So, I am pretty into hiking / camping / the outdoors in general and am interested in what kind of opportunities are in the cleveland area. More importantly, I'm interested in opportunities that are actually practical and that I could realistically con classmates to traverse with me.
In the warm months, how far would one have to drive to find a decent hiking trail? How good is the bicycling in the area?
When it's cold, are there actual trails and popular areas to do, for example, CC skiing? Are there accessible roads to get to said places?
I love Case (The School) but I am still heavily debating Case (as a school in the Cleveland area). I am someone who likes to thoroughly explore and enjoy where I live, so this makes a big difference for me. Would love your 2cents. Feel free to sell me on Cleveland in other aspects too, ideally ones that have not been mentioned elsewhere in the thread (I have miraculously read most of this largely off-topic crazy fest). Thanks.
Love the ninjapenguin.

Besides students taking courses to obtain a master's degree, what are some "fun" courses students have taken? I took a swimming course during undergrad and it was great to get credit for working out 😀 How does grading work for undergrad courses?
Just interviewed yesterday. This was an awesome school where everyone seemed very happy to be there. Definitely one of my top choices.
This is what I loved about the school during my interview day. I sat in on a IQ session and during their break one of the ladies in the group told me "I love what I do." I kind of gave her one of these looks😕 because I thought she was being sarcastic and I asked her if she was joking and she said "no, I really being here and learning medicine." The other students in the IQ session joined in and reiterated her sentiments which impressed me.
Out of all my interviews where I talked to current students, Case had the only students who didn't make jokes about going into another field or staying away from medicine. I appreciated that and I think it says a lot about the quality of the school in addition to the students who attend the school.
Someone else PMed me about this, so I'm going to post it publicly too. Just to clarify, the CCLCM adcomm HAS reviewed everyone's apps at least once. They meet every other week all season long to vote on people's apps, so all of your apps got reviewed within two weeks of your interview date. At that point, many people are put on hold/high hold (which is what you guys are on), and some get rejected. Of the people on hold/high hold, the adcomm reviews some of them again at the three subcommittee meetings. These meetings are separate from the regular biweekly meetings, and it's at the subcommittee meetings where people are selected to be admitted into the class on one of the three acceptance dates when Dr. Franco makes calls.I've been reading this post religiously for months, and decided to throw my own paranoia into the mix (don't you feel lucky, punks?). I was lucky enough to interview at CCLCM in December (and fell head over heals in love with the school), but as of yet have not heard any kind of result. I've called the school (and let me say those secretaries are saints for having to deal with all of us) and they told me that my file has not been reviewed as of yet. So I was wondering what chunk of interviewees were being considered for this round of acceptances? Also, how were people informed about their waitlist/hold? Through the mail, e-mail, or phone?

I'm curious about this, since I've received neither a hold notice nor a rejection letter and interviewed at one of the first interview days. When I called last week, they said the adcomm should have a decision on my file this week. I guess I'm confused now!Someone else PMed me about this, so I'm going to post it publicly too. So, to recap:
Hope this helps. 🙂
- If you interviewed at CCLCM, your app was reviewed at one of the regular meetings within two weeks of when you interviewed.
- If you were sent a hold/high hold letter, then the adcomm rated you highly enough that you have a chance of being accepted. Otherwise, you would have already received a rejection letter.
- Only the subcommittee meetings are used to select accepted people. Not everyone gets reviewed at every subcommittee meeting, but again, if you're still on hold/high hold and have not been rejected, then you are still in the running.
- You can try calling the office about your status if you really want to, but you probably aren't going to get anything more out of them beyond, "we're still making a decision."
Thanks for the info! Um, but...ya see.... I know "someone" who interviewed, and is patiently waiting, not bugging anyone, but hasn't heard anything, no rejection, but no hold/high hold letter/email either. Is there a 3rd category for people like this? Limbo/Lost in the Mail category perhaps?😉Someone else PMed me about this, so I'm going to post it publicly too. Sorry, I have no idea why some people are getting hold letters and others aren't getting anything. But if you haven't been rejected or accepted, I'd consider it a de facto hold. Thanks for the info! Thanks CCLCMer. Any idea when the next subcommittee meeting is?
Hmmmm, I'm actually not sure what non-masters classes people have taken, though I think someone mentioned ballroom dancing and I'm pretty sure someone had taken at class at the Cleveland Institute of Music. Grading is generally whatever the UG grading is, unless you're allowed to audit (some courses are, some courses aren't, I'm not really sure how this is determined).
If you can fit it into your schedule (and handle your med school obligations), then you absolutely should.😀
Thank you each for the information. I'm definitely going to get settled into school first and figure out the workload before I even attempt at taking any other classes (for a master's or just for fun). I like that Case gives their students ample free-time to pursue other interests.(Just finished Case undergrad, so what I'm saying isn't totally made up 😛). I clearly don't know what classes Case med students take, but I can explain undergrad grading. Some courses, especially 101 or large lectures, are available to audit. Gym classes, with very few exceptions, are pass/fail for 0 credits because Case doesn't want students padding GPAs by taking, like...racquetball. Some classes, like the performance ensembles, come with the option to take it for 0 or 1 credit. Any 1 class can be taken pass/fail in a semester--I would think that would be true for med students taking undergrad classes as well.
I interviewed there yesterday (my now number one choice for school... best curriculum and the students actually have personalities...), and I think the secretary said the subcommittee meets this upcoming Monday.... so definitely expect a status change either Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
I think some people on this forum don't like to mention specific dates when decisions go out so that people don't get too excited about it.
Last time there was a committee meeting, we didn't hear back until a week after. Don't know if that's the case here or not.![]()
I can reaffirm the date of the next committee meeting. When I interviewed Mr. Essman said during his morning orientation that the next meeting would be January 31st, next Monday. Of course that might change, and it might take a good deal of time before decisions are uploaded. Good to know that it took a week last time, I thought it wad two days after meeting (ie the Wednesday after the meeting).
Good luck everyone (my number one too, couldnt agree more)!
I think that committee meeting is for the UP program. Many of the other people are asking about the subcommittee for the CCLCM program. I am assuming that these two have separate committees?
Ya I was definitely referring to UP. I thought that's what the poster was referring to (they referred to a committee meeting happening on the same day the UP one is supposed to). Is the turn around for UP decisions being up after the committee meeting a week or two days (it seems meetings are on Mondays and notifications are on Wednesdays)?
Seems like the last batch of acceptances happened on a Wednesday. Just my observations though.
Yeah, meetings occur on Mondays, with results usually posted by Wednesday.

Yeah REPEATEDLY posting multiple useless posts to claim top of page, especially when it's been done OVER 40 TIMES, is the definition of helpful.
Mostly jk, you also come through when it counts by being very helpful, friendly, and informative.
But at least if you're going to post 10 times to claim the top spot, you better have something of the caliber of ninja penguin to share. Just sayin.
Hey hockeyjunkie! I tried to visit you and the interviewees, but no one was in the office between classes :\ I'm glad you had enoyed it! We do our best to make it a very comfy day so you get to see Case like it really is. ^_^Just interviewed yesterday. This was an awesome school where everyone seemed very happy to be there. Definitely one of my top choices.
I had a blast while at Case. Originally, I was going to cancel this interview because of the cost and lowered chance of acceptance this late in the cycle but I think that would have been a big mistake. My favorite aspect of Case Western was the students, mainly because the were down to earth and always willing to talk to you. For instance, one student saw me alone in the hallway and proceeded to tell me about the school, answer my questions, even though she had to be at the hospital in 10 minutes. For some reason, I can't stop thinking about the school and actually dreamt about it yesterday which is incredibly strange for me......Hoping for the best but expecting the worst.
When I interviewed here, I saw how friendly people were with each other. Several of them had called each other and tried really hard to find me a student host when I went, too. I was shocked. My student host went out of her way to let me stay in her tiny place for 2 nights, and was an absolute blast to hang around with. I thought that it was possible that it was just those few who involved in the interviewing process or who offered housing, but when I saw how the students interacted with each other in the halls, it was dramatically different from other places I'd been. I was sold.I definitely agree. Every student that I walked around with was happy to take me and show me the school. They all knew each other too and were always greeted by smiles. It says a lot about a school when everyone is so friendly and high-spirited. It couldn't possibly be fake, because no one would be able to keep that high of spirits with so many different interview dates. This seems like it is a great school and I hope to attend.
I LOVE the trails in the parks. They are beautiful, they go all over the city, and there are many different parks etc. I have only biked a little outside of the parks, so I can't speak much for the roads...Continuing the subject, how is the biking around Cleveland? (I'm talking more about road biking) Is it possible to get out of the city onto biker-friendly country roads or loops?
