According to the cornell website, 793 applicants out of 5565 were interviewed last year. I thought they normally interview around 700 (maybe less according to medicalschoolsinusa.com).

Does that mean more applicants are being invited to interviews? Hence a heavier cut post interview? What do you guys think?

dont you feel like they can obviously see that youre lying by sending ITA emails when they can see that you're from NYC on your application?

I'm waiting... He sent an ITA email to Cornell first and then did the same for Columbia afterwards.. What the difference.

You're confused. He got an invite from Columbia, then sent the ITA to Cornell. Do not. Do not. Do not. send an ITA unless you are, in fact, going to be ITA. It's just a douche-y thing to do.

Yeah I also sent the ita after i had an interview in the city. I did get an interview invite. But i think the people that have 'successful' ita emails probably would have gotten interviews anyways, whenever the committee looked at their application. The ita probably just moves you up a bit. But even if you don't send one, if the committee wants to meet with you they WILL interview you. The ita doesn't make them say "ahh we wouldnt have called this shmuck but since they're here lets interview them".

Don't worry honey! I know the waiting is SUPER PAINFUL. I know Cornell is my top choice too and I was DYING to hear back. But you will hear back, probably soon since you completed early. Things will work out! I just feel like its always best to be honest/avoid lying or being unethical if just for the sake of your own conscience, dig me?

Best of luck, I know everything will turn out great 🙂

Also this made my day lol

Hey! How long did it take for them to invite you after you sent the email?

Received a confirmation that they had received the ITA email three days after I had submitted it. Then received an invite two weeks after the initial submission (which ended up being about two weeks before I was scheduled to be in NYC-funny how that works!)

:luck:!

Who cares? Either you get in or you don't.

Man, I play stock to pay for my undergraduate education and hopefully med school education also. Thus, I like numbers, stats, and speculations before making the next move.

I am happy for you that you have so many great acceptances and interviews. That shows you are a very strong applicant and have your own method to succeed. That said, I have my own. Hope you can respect that.
Good luck and hope more acceptances will come for you.

P.S. Also forgot to add, I benefited a lot from your previous posts on many school specific threads. For that, thank you!!

A fellow applicant

Fair enough. Whenever I look at numbers I just get freaked out. They make the odds appear so utterly against you...

For 2009, it was:
5580 applied, 652 interviewed, 252 were accepted

there class has always been 101...
😕

Schools generally always accept at least 2x the amount of matriculated, as some individuals will go elsewhere for whichever personal reasons they have or they may defer. If you are competitive enough to get accepted Cornell, you are competitive enough to have multiple acceptances, and probably at other top 20 schools, so at that point you can decide which school has the best financial aid package for you or which school was the best personal fit for you.

no problem. all is forgiven 😀. excuse me for being so detailed... just sometimes people in this forum... ah better left unsaid.

btw, go Sabres!

Thanks! Reading over post two years of threads, it seems Cornell is more concerned with fit than numbers. I know most if not every school claim this, but not many follow this.

On a side note, I find it interesting that the interview numbers from USA news are different from the Cornell Website ...

If anyone is gunna have some free time in NYC between Monday and Wednesday, holla!

If by free time you mean studying for finals... Columbia has impeccable timing.

who wants to study for ancient philosophy for me?

For those of you who already interviewed at Cornell, what hotel did you stay in? I'm looking for something <200$/night that is pretty close to Cornell. Any tips?

I stayed with a student while I was there but I know they have some sort of housing for family of patients at the hospital close by. I don't know how expensive it is but in Manhattan, I would guess it would be cheaper than most hotels.

Other than student hosting, you'd probably be best off looking for something over the river in queens and getting a taxi or taking a tiny subway ride. Also, if you find anything in Manhattan for that cheap and it's south of ~90-100th street it'll be safe enough but maybe with more travel time to get to WCMC.

I stayed at the Manhattan Upper East Courtyard. It was about a 15 minute walk to the school, and back in october the rate was about $100 per nite. It is also easy to flag a cab if you want to (and with this nasty weather, you will probably be doing that). G'luck with the interview!

Da Vinci Hotel at near 100/night.

Shows how much I know! In my defense, I've never felt the need to sleep at a hotel instead of my apartment.

Received the Weill email axe this morning. Complete in late September.

Good luck to those still alive.

Just finished the interview day. Really enjoyed the day! If you have any questions, let me know.

FYI, the Admissions Office had an office calendar posted on the wall, and according to that calendar the last admissions committee meeting for December was yesterday. This may or may not be useful to those trying to judge whether or not they might get a December acceptance.

:luck:

Oh, boy, and I'm driving back up there tomorrow.....

Hey man, how extensive was the tour? Is it just WCMC facilities or do they cover NewYork Pres or the HSS?

Or, do the just avoid the whole going outside thing since its like ---5435%$%#$ degrees over there?

I'm in Syracuse and it's horrible. took me half an hour to get home from work (usually takes less than 10 minutes). It's supposed to stop tomorrow but we shall see. Damn lake affect snow!

The tour is mostly spent seeing the medical school: lecture hall, PBL room, anatomy labs, clinical skills center, housing, gym facilities. Depending on time limits there is usually a brief swing through the hospital (but not HSS). This is usually limited by time, and also by the fact that most of the tour guides are 1st years, and don't know their way around the hospital yet.

We've been working to involve more 4th year students in tours to answer questions on the clinical years. If anyone has questions that went unanswered after your tour, let me know and I'd be happy to answer. Anyone who has an upcoming visit, if you want to see more of the hospital, ask a 4th year to show you around and they'd be happy to.

Also, I received my interview invite in March and interviewed on the LAST day of interviews four years ago. There's hope. Good luck to everyone.

Pretty much what bba said above. The tour was mostly of the educational facilities - our particular tour group didn't tour any of the clinical facilities except for entering the lobby of New York-Presbyterian. Because of the nature of the campus, you pretty much have to walk outside - no one seemed to mention any sort of underground tunnel system like some cold places have.

In short: the tour was mostly of educational facilities, and you will freeze your balls off. Enjoy!

Pretty stupid question, but I still would like an answer.

I am from California, and have never been to the East Coast in the winter times. Thus, I am not familiar with the weather or the "fashion."

What do interviewees wear outside of their suit to keep themselves warm? Trench coat or Peacoat

Thanks

Think of it in terms of "survival" rather than "fashion". Trench coat is for fall and early spring. Peacoat (or even a dead animal wrapped around shoulders if you so choose..) is for this brutal winter. 😀

Definitely a peacoat. Gloves and a hat are also essential. Gloves alone can make you feel a million times warmer.

There was a guy in my group yesterday that lived and went to school in southern Cali. He seemed to survive just fine, so I promise you'll make it out alive when returning to your heavenly home.

Wow thanks for survival advice, I have to get some gloves ... you know it is currently 80 degree where I am from

I read this after I shoveled my driveway in -11 degree windchill... I'm cyber-punching you out of jealousy right now lol :meanie:

I wish I applied to some west coast schools just so I could have gone somewhere warm!

The only time we went outside in the Cornell tour (at least in mine) was to walk across the street to NY hospital, then it was all inside. I had to walk there for one of my interviews too, so you won't be out in the elements for too long but def wear a warm coat/scarf

Haha, grass always looks greener on the other side.

I am looking forward to seeing snow for the first time 🙂

Rejected preinterview 🙁

They didn't want me for undergrad, I shouldn't be surprised they wouldn't want me for med scool either 😛

They really like to come in droves. Preinterview hold at Penn, Reject from Hopkins and now cornell too. Sigh

Totally feel you. I got 4 rejections in a span of a week in late October and no news since from anywhere. Hang in there! I definitely understand how you feel; especially with the holidays coming up, I've resigned myself to waiting even more.

rejected pre-interview

good luck to the rest :xf:
