Good job! Still have no call but I want to stay at hopkins! Ill keep praying...
Congratulations to all the acceptances! I was wondering though, is it true that the admissions committee meets just once a month? Aka does that mean they have probably gone through all of the October interviewees, or have I (hopefully) misheard. Oct 22nd interviewer here
Congrats to all the acceptances! Long time SDN reader but first time posting...I was accepted to Hopkins back in September and am still waking up everyday replaying my acceptance phone call in my head 🙂 I am pretty sure I will be matriculating here (In LOVE with this school). Just wondering if anyone else who has been accepted is thinking the same thing...would love to hear that I have some future classmates!
you cant get accepted in september, unless its early decision, and if its early decision, its binding...so shouldn't you be 100% positive your attending, not "pretty sure"
** Interviewed in September, accepted in October
Question to all you crazy kids who know everything (in a good way):
So as stated on the last page, I was put on the alternate list. Whether I will get off it or not is not the question here.
I planned to defer entrance to med school for a year in order to teach english in Korea. My concern is that if I get off the waitlist, it would probably be in may right? Would this be too late to apply for deferral?

Why the hell are you applying to medical school for a school year in which you have no intention of attending?
i hate to burst your presumptuous bubble... but if you read previous pages on this thread you'll learn that the chances of getting off the hopkins waitlist are extremely slim
aaaahhhhhh neurotic competitive premeds....
Thank to those of you that didn't assume to know me entirely from one post. I actually emailed admissions and they gave me the answer i needed.
I'm done with this discussion board. To those of you that make it into med school, i hope you stop being so conceited. I feel it would put a dent in compassionate care.

i actually tried to call but forgot about the damn restricted call in hours...
does anyone know around when oct 14/15 interviewees will hear? It must be some time significantly before 12/10 according to CotR but I have yet to receive a reply to my week-old email and now cant call til monday 🙁
any help appreciated!
oh and i remember them saying early december as well, i was really asking if anyone that interviewed immediately after oct 14/15 had a date they were given so we can gauge ours
Thanks!
u mean 11/7? cuz 10/7 heard back this weeki interviewed on 10/7 and they told us that we'll hear back first week of december, if that's any help.
interview 600-700 accept 220 about and 120 matriculate waitlist 200 pplOh does anyone know with an MSAR what the numbers are for Hopkins? (Interviewed vs accepted vs matriculated). I see some stuff online but I don't really trust them.
Just got an interview invite.
if i was complete around those days and haven't heard anything.. is that bad news?
My MSAR is a year old, but it's 774 interviewed and 118 matriculated. I don't have the number accepted.
Any chance I would get any JHU love submitting my secondary application five days before(today) the deadline or would it be a waste of money?
I just withdraw a ton of interview invites from other schools(pitt, emory, etc) but somehow I feel like I'm missing out by not applying here. Balanced 35 sGPA 3.8.
At top schools, grades dont get you in, they just get you in the door. Cant tell if its worth applying unless you show your EC's. If you think you have a really strong app, I would definitely apply though, as Hopkins accepts through march
Vanderbilt undergrad (neuroscience), 3.3-3.4/33, shadowed multiple docs, 1.5 years neuro research, volunteered teaching science to underprivileged kids all semesters except my first...should I bother applying here in June?
It's not impossible for you to get in and it won't hurt you to apply, but...the averages are close to 3.9 and 36. Almost all Hopkins applicants have done years of research before applying and most have done some form of volunteer work as well.
If you have an explanation for your lower numbers and if you have some amazing and unique ECs, then you should go for it. If not, I'd still go for it (as they might be randomly impressed with your essay/life story), but wouldn't get my hopes up too high.
I respectfully disagree with your comment or at least what is implied by it.
Grades DO get you in. In fact, they're a big part of why people get in. W
hy else are the averages pushing close to 3.9 and 36 at top-tier schools?
You're right in that grades do get you in the door. And ECs get you into the school. However, without grades, no level of good ECs will get you into the school (unless you cured cancer or solved world hunger).
So it's best to say you need BOTH grades and ECs.
Ok thanks. I started out at Vanderbilt with two semesters of 3.05 GPA's 🙁 so it's an ascending GPA. I might do summer research/SURF as well, and I thought if I could take the MCAT this April and get a 36 I'd stand a decent chance with a 3.4. Maybe I should try to get in to some leadership positions as well as continue volunteering? I'd think that this would also be a similar situation for Penn? (my other top choice)
