Are you by any chance a URM? That's a big part of the package as well...

Yeah i am. But still, a 31 and 3.9. What they liked are my activities and i think everyone needs to emphasize that.

same here, I'm URM with a 32 and 3.7 and my interviewer even remarked that my mcat was low for their school, but he told me he really felt that my activities and my personality/interests would make me a good fit for the school. the URM thing definitely helps...not going to deny that...but your interests and experiences matter a lot as well.

pissing contest commence: i have > 38 and > 3.8 AND i'm URM... still waitlisted. 😛

Did you receive a letter from them (after being waitlisted) in which you are asked whether you are interested in being put into an "alternative list"? I wonder whether a LOI would have any help here.

Two differences between you and me: 1) URM or not. 2) You are 😛 while I am 🙁.

Seems like URMs have much better activities than us. Thats the reason their getting these acceptances.

Not sure about your activities, but as a URM with solid stats and D1 athletics and other activities... I was majorly disappointed. I really liked Sinai 🙁

Yes, I did receive the letter in the mail. I was 🙁 too when I read there won't be any movement from the "alternate list" until after May 15. Honestly, update letters and especially LOI are a MUST if you want to get off their wait list at Sinai. Jessica from admissions basically said that explicitly.

Don't worry I am sure you'll get into an even better school. Their loss.

Jessica told our batch (interviewed last week) that we would be notified by mid-February if that helps you to extrapolate when you would hear (probably around this time). However, I assume she probably told your group when you all would hear.

There. Much better.

All january people should hear by mid-february. First notifications will be by email.

I think spd is talking about when the people who were notified of their acceptance on 1/12 (via email) will receive their acceptance materials (via snail-mail), which are usually sent a good deal after the initial notification.

I have no idea, but I think I remember seeing on this thread that there was at least a month lag time, so prolly don't worry if you haven't gotten yours yet. Maybe call in a week if you're worried?

Yeah this is what I meant. Sorry for the confusion, thanks!

anyone else interviewing tomorrow?

Interview invite today for next week! I was beginning to lose hope in hearing from them 🙂

congrats.

what's your complete date?

Way long ago. I'm not sure of the exact complete date, but I received/submitted my secondary 8/9/2010 and my LORs were marked received on 9/21/2010. I also sent an update letter in December.

a good friend of mine got one too. has anyone called in recently/could this be the last batch?

Interview invite today for mid-Feb. Does anyone know - will I be interviewing for a real spot or just for the waitlist?

I actually interviewed today and the admissions person said that we would be interviewing for a real spot, almost in those exact words. And she added that open spots were held until the end of interview season.

Sooooo...If I interviewed on the 27th, can I expect to hear back in a couple of weeks? Aaugh I really really love Sinai!

The waitlist moves a nice amount, and your odds of getting in are good of you express your interest in the school, so either way it's worth it.

Just wondering how you know about the wait list movement? Sinai is one of my top choices, but I was wait listed in November.

I was waitlisted back here a while back. I was wondering what email address people were sending updates/LOIs to and if you received confirmation after doing so, thanks

another piece of spam mail!! REALLY Mount Sinai? 👎 I've got three junk pieces of mail so far.

like someone else here said, I think it's the application service that Sinai uses (Embark, I think?) that's spamming you, not Sinai itself.

If it gets annoying you might want to call and let Sinai know. I'm sure they don't want their applicants to get spammed any more than you do.

Are you sure you guys aren't getting Embark spam mail from some other source? e.g. another med school, a school you applied to in undergrad, somewhere else?

I used a brand new email address for med school stuff, and it's only been given to the AAMC and to schools, and I haven't gotten any embark spam.

It must be part of their contract with Embark that lets them e-mail the applicants

It's unprofessional that Mount Sinai's application service is spamming us.

It is very easy to filter the spam so that you never have to be bothered by it.

This thread has been quiet lately... To stir things up a bit, I interviewed today and was told that the committee met yesterday and decisions have been made but were not sent out today. I assume some of you can expect to hear over the next couple days! Good luck 🙂

Thank you! I actually clicked this thread in hopes of finding this exact comment.

Decisions about acceptances? Did they say anything or does anybody know if they still plan to send out interview invites?

My stomach just dropped all the way to my butt. Anyone know how they inform you of your acceptance status?

Interviews go into March, but there was no mention of whether or not they were done sending them. It's always likely that someone will cancel. I got my invite last week at the last minute by phone call, so I assumed they were filling a vacated position.

In regards to contacting about acceptances, wanderer is correct. We were told all initial contact about decisions is through email.

Decisions are going out--I just got waitlisted (alternate list).

I was really hoping to have some certainty of where I'm going. Now I have to decide if I want to run off with Einstein or chase after Mount Sinai for the upcoming months only to possibly be rejected again.

Does anyone know what the process for Mount Sinai waitlist is and what kind of turnaround there is?

Waitlisted...38, 3.8...Really love the school so I think Im gonna hang in there. Does anyone know if they have a ranking system for the waitlist?

I love the place too. I think I need to take a day to relax before I start a full court press. Looks like this app season just got extended till the summer.

Do we accept the acceptance electronically somehow, or do we wait for the mailed packet?

Edit: I just actually read everything in b/t the 1st & last sentence, and saw the official acceptance is done when the official packet is mailed (in 2-3 weeks)

Congrats! Did you guys interview in January?

Interviewed Jan 27th, waitlisted. Bummer cause my interviews went extremely well, but of course, the interview isn't everything. Congrats to those accepted and GL to my fellow waitlistees!

I love SDN - so much advance warning, and they all turn out to be right on the dot.

ACCEPTED - interviewed second week of January, invite sometime in November. I still have fond memories of the interview closets - glad to have survived those! : )

Good luck for those waiting to hear back!

Haha, I literally could not escape the interview closet. I thought the doors were the kind that slide...my interviewer had to stand up and push it for me. Maybe that's why I was waitlisted? 😉
