I would suggest, IMHO, you save it for the interview. You are not going to "convince" anyone of anything more at this stage. There is no better outcome at this stage. You have piqued our interest (both programs). If you run out of things to talk about, then I would suggest you bring it up then. 🙂

Also, I presume you have already modified the dates? It is indeed your choice - but I am not sure that is the most compelling reason - given the cost of two trips? 😕

Mk thanks for the info!

Yes i have. I had a ton of frequent flier miles from conferences, frequent flier credit card, and recent vacations so I am paying off one of the trips with some of those miles 🙂.

:hello: Hey Midfield, how's life? 🙂 We haven't seen you since the last thread. What's up?
Listened to the good advice I got on the Case thread and took the deferral, too many $$$ to pass it up. Gonna save me 6 figs by the time it's all done. Almost as good as going to CCLCM.....I said almost!😀 Currently looking for a camera so I can take those pics in Europe, "Pics or it didn't happen." 😉 Also looking at SA for a service project, Guyana, maybe Venezuela. Ok, yeah I'll take the camera for that one too!

Smiling right now as I read this years thread thinking back at how crazy the med school application process made me. What a ride! These candidates are very lucky to have you guys to help them keep the lid on! Case, definite class act.

So... 😏 Where ARE you going now? 😛

Also...indeed! plz plz plz post your adventures on our thread.

CP or UP?

There is only Hopkins Airport, really. Easy to take train to school and back.

There is Akron, but it is about 50 mins away with traffic but it is teeny tiny and you would have to take a cab. This is tricky getting there and back - although I hear the tix are cheap. I DO NOT recommend this.

For UP. Thanks for your help!

VC: Believe me splitting it up wasnt my first choice. I thought about it for a good day. October was just a bad month with me missing things. I'm an engineering student so im sure you remember how bad it can get when you miss stuff  Especially with senior design :scared:

interview invites for CCLCM and UP 8/2
Fee paid (so I submitted 2ndary) 7/24
2ndary marked complete 7/27

i received an email saying my status had been updated.

when i saw the email i was like :scared: but then i thought hey maybe if it's a "no" it won't be for both :luck: and then i checked and my teeth took up half my face like this 😀

there was no one in lab that late so i jumped around like ***** briefly then treated myself to a coke from the caf. i feel like i want to hug the whole state of ohio right now.
This is my fav post of the week. Congrats! And congrats everyone!

Top!

Indeed...those may be the best kind of ninjas, but THESE turtles are still better...

Those have obviously been photoshopped.

I wish case would just invite me for an interview

patience is hard

This thread just seems so out of place on the second page. Had to bump it.

Hey folks. If I applied to Case last year (2011 cycle) on AMCAS, but didn't submit a secondary, should I check the box that I applied previously?

Interview invite!! So excited 🙂
I am looking at the available interview days, and I have no idea what my schedule will look like in October. Does anyone know if you will be allowed to switch to another date if I end up needing to?

If you don't mind sharing...when were you complete??

Waiting patiently on Case. Ok, maybe not so patiently... 😀

Update:

New first year medical student has massive, cast Pirate belt-buckle that has a skull and crossbones on it with a big pirate hat...plus the mouth doubles as a bottle opener...

In summary:

First year CCLCM student? Check
Massive pirate beltbuckle? Check

I'm not a statistician, but that is pretty good prevalence...

Also, sparkling, prancing unicorn T-shirts are in! Designed by a fifth year with over a dozen publications who is applying to neurosurgery. "Work hard, play hard" - I say.

One more question:

Does the e-mail that "strongly encourages" us to fill out the secondary mean anything at all? Anyone who got this e-mail get an interview? Anyone who got it get rejected? Thanks!

You should do what the nice letter tells you.

I plan on it! I just found it a bit odd, considering I got my AMCAS verified last friday. Still, I plan on submitting it this weekend (by tomorrow). I do have heavy research experience, but I am not sure my numbers are good enough. Certainly going to give it a shot.

Numbers aren't everything. Case looks at your big picture. They create a cooperative class that works perfectly in a small-group based learning environment, and as such are looking for more than stats in an application. We look carefully at a lot of people, not just the ones who walk in with spiffy numbers.

do you guys know approximately how many people case accepts from the interview pool? i just looked at a MSAR book and was shocked by the high number of people they interview..

The stats on those are somewhere in this thread, I don't know it myself.

But we interview a lot of people because the program is based on having people who work well together. They have to get to know prospective students not just read essays.

Are students given grades at UP or is it a Pass/Fail system?

soooo, any good Pho/Thai/Indian places to suggest for when I head to interview?

I have had two research experiences that were both very meaningful to me. I chose one of the on my AMCAS to be one of the "meaningful" experiences, but not the other (just because I wanted to expand on other activities that I had done, other than research).

For Case's secondary, I chose to talk about the research that I didn't mark as most meaningful on my AMCAS, but I could honestly spend the entire essay going into the experience and what it meant to me. Does anyone think this is realistic? Or should I talk about both experiences equally (but, in less detail, obviously).

Thank you for all your help. Great thread.

If you feel you can write something meaningful and useful to your application, then by all means do so.

how close is a 550 flight cutting it ?

You should still be able to make it, but I like to give myself a whole two hours to work with. It'll probably be fine.

Also, that is an excellent use of David Tennant.

Hmm alright sounds good. Thanks Myu. Its either that or Ill have to skip another day of class for transport back to my college town :scared::laugh:

How reliable/close is the train to CCLCM? Im stuck between using that and a Taxi to get back

And thank you. I'm on my 3rd watch through of DW.
