Anyone applying to IUSM through the IU MSMS, MS Biology or IU MS in Physiology programs? What has been your experience? Please PM me if you have any insight/advice regarding these programs.

Thanks!

Man this wait is really starting to get to me. I knew it would be a long wait, but I figured I would have heard something by now. My stats are good, not great (3.68, 30, IS), I've been complete since about September, and I thought my interview went reasonably well. I just feel like time is dwindeling to hear back and IU is my top choice and really my only option more or less at this point. I know most of you are probably in the same boat but I just needed to vent. From what I have gathered, IU is notorious for leaving students hanging.

does anyone know when they're supposed to start sending out merit scholarships?

Just accepted for MD and just finished with MD/PhD second looks at IU!!! Yay!!! 😀

I completely agree. I know many people with similar gpas and MCATs in the range of of 28-30 that were wait-listed until June (n=4). Your stats seem right in line with what IU is looking for you, so good luck! :luck:

Congrats!

When you say just accepted for MD - do you mean you were accepted recently? If so, how were you notified, and on what date? I am just worried (and have been waiting since September)

Thanks

I was notified by snail mail on 02/17/2012. I interviewed on January 15th. Hopefully you'll hear back soon! :xf:

That is a great turnaround time. Snail mail gives me hope - I live far away and it takes around 11 days to receive anything from the US. Thanks for the quick response!

Thank you!!!

Did anyone who interviewed on Jan 25 get accepted yet?

Interviewed in the AM on Jan 18th and received a snail mail acceptance yesterday! First acceptance and very excited! Good luck all!

Congrats, but wasn't yesterday a USPS holiday?

I got the packet in the mail yesterday but it is a national federal holiday. 😕 I'm not about to complain... Thanks for being concerned for our postal workers.

I'd call that nothing short of a miracle 😛

so do we just send them a letter back to confirm the acceptance? Are there no other forms to fill out?

Could any of you who were just accepted post the stats you got in with? Thanks in advance.

Interviewed on Jan 25 11:00am, got ready for review e-mail on Feb 15. No word yet.
I interviewed on Jan. 18th in the A.M. and received an acceptance via snail mail on Feb. 17th.

Instate, 3.58 in bio and chem, 33R, and family ties to IU Med

When did you receive your ready-for-review email? That is amazing turnaround speed.

Do you think having family ties to IU makes a difference? My father graduated from IUSM. I would love for it to help some since I have such an average MCAT and you guys seem to be killing it on the MCAT.

My brother is a current student at the Indy campus. Not sure how much of a factor that was, but my interviewer wrote it down in big black lettering at the top of my interview score sheet.

I accidentally put the wrong interview date down. I actually interviewed on the 18th. Sorry about that! Not sure what I was thinking.

My ready-for-review email was sent on Jan. 27th.

Interviewed on Feb 15th. It went pretty well. Received an email notifying me that my interviewer's note is in.
28L MCAT, GPA ~3.9s &3.82c. In state. What are my chances?

I received an email saying my application is eligible for review, there was no mention of any interviewer notes though. As for your chance of getting in, I remember someone in last year's thread got off the wait-list with a 3.8-3.9 and a 28 so you definitely have a chance. Most of the people posting this year with acceptances seem to have pretty high MCAT scores though (32+). It could be with the increase in applications this year that standards have risen, who knows though, just try and keep a positive mindset and don't let all the waiting that goes on drive you crazy. I have been trying not to let it get to me. It is kind of hard when you really want to go here though..

If you don't hear anything soon, expect that you're waitlisted. From what I understand, it is quite common that those with stats like yours (good GPA, but MCAT in the 28-30 range) are often waitlisted and then admitted in the summer. Overall, I think you have good chances (>60%), but you'll be dragged through the heartbreak of being waitlisted and waiting.

**disclaimer: This is from my experiences from IS applicant friends in previous years. In no way can anyone really tell you your odds at a specific school.

For those that went to the rural interview, how is their rural program in your opinion? I had a medical emergency last week so I had to miss it but I will be making it up in march.

I attended the rural interview. I'm sorry that you missed it.
I went to undergrad with a MS1 and MS2 who are in program both of them seemed to like the class size, the course schedule (especially second semester of 1st year since it is kind of a block schedule) and the face time with faculty and their preceptors.
One perk to the program are the half tuition scholarships that have no restrictions.
Well, I hope you are recovering from your emergency!

Thanks for the information. I am almost recovered. I had an appendicitis. I was shocked when it was happening because I had three tests, two papers due, and that interview that week. lol

I'm happy to hear you are doing well. Did you have a chance to reschedule the interview?

Good luck! It was not stressful at all and everyone was very nice!

It went great. I met alot of the 3rd year students and they love the program. I was actually surprised to see how big Terre Haute was. I was expecting a very small town. I live in a rural town in Kentucky with less than 1500 people and we recently got a Dollar General which is a big deal. lol

Decisions mailed today! Keeping fingers and toes crossed until Monday.

I called the office today. They told me I have a letter on the way. I'm accepted!😍

I guess your MCAT did not hold you back, congrats! I am anxiously waiting to get home from work hoping that I have a letter as well.

Will they give you that information over the phpone? Should i call too?

Well there was no letter in the mailbox, maybe some of you will have better luck than me..

I just called and she said letters were mailed out today. The earliest you'll receive the letter is tomorrow 😀.

Did she tell you if you would be getting one or not? I really want to call ask.

no disclosure over the phone for me. I have no idea how skydiving got them to say something, they shouldn't do that from what I've seen in past application threads.

Hi PCS50, don't worry, I don't have my letter yet either. They told me "I have a letter on the way" and I asked them if it meant I was accepted and they confirmed it, so I guess I will get the letter tomorrow the fastest.
