I've been complete on 7/19 and I thought I'd get a decision this monday because people who were complete on 7/18 were getting interview invites last friday. But it seems like it's all rejections this week. what's going on?! this is crazy!

4.0, 35M OOS rejected as well

😕 😱 :scared:

This is like one of those horror films where a group of kids are lost in the woods and are waiting for the monster to come get them one by one...

This is the perfect description of my feelings with BU. Every time I manage to survive the ax, I breathe a sigh of relief. And then I start to fear the next round. :scared:

BU was the first secondary I submitted, so it's likely I'll hear back from them first.

I'll be so depressed if I start this cycle out with a rejection... 🙁

😆

I'm trying to remind myself that a LOT of people are applying and we are getting a very small pool of responses on SDN ... so chin up guys ... if BU doesn't love us there has to be some school out there who will! :xf:

II today. Complete 7/23. One of my top schools so definitely excited about this.

I've been complete since 7/11 and haven't heard anything I don't know what to make of the situation.
:scared:

If you guys have sent a LOI, what did you guys talk about, generally speaking? I am not sure how to go about a LOI so early on.

Yeah, complete 7/17 here, so I know how you feel. 🙁

I'm trying to avoid LOI's because I hate the whole concept of them pre-waitlist, but maybe I should rethink my feelings and start playing the game....

Isn't the waitlist just an ordered que? How would an LOI help you then?

Depends on the school. Most don't have an explicit ranking, so in theory a LOI - also seen it as letter of intent - will help boost you a few points over someone who doesn't seem as interested. There's no real proof that it works, but it's one of those things people do just in case. Didn't help me get off my waitlist last time I applied 🙄.

Those are my exact feelings...I was first thinking that I had nothing to lose so I was planning on it but then I realized that admissions committees are made up of humans who are subject to emotions and don't want to be an annoyance if that is how they view them pre-II...

Don't want to poke the sleeping bear if it won't share its honey?

What an awful metaphor.

Anyways, I'm so lost.

Yeah I agree. BU had a section where we could basically write an LOI on the secondary. That's the only reason I wouldn't do it.

I have to keep reminding myself it's still August. I think if a flat-out rejection is coming, an LOI won't make a difference, but if they're taking their sweet time, and September/October comes around with no word, I'll send in an Update/LOI hybrid. I think those are more meaningful and legit.

Interview invite just now!! Marked complete 7/23. Very excited to see Boston!!

Anyone know what it means when BU is rejecting many people with high stats?

Boston university is the one of the first medical schools to take a holistic approach to an application. Boston admissions representatives have said they look at the big picture rather than stats. I think we are getting confirmation of that.

Sent from my DROID3 using SDN Mobile

I don't mean to sound conceited, but I'm not so sure that's the case. I thought that in the beginning, which is why I applied to Boston in the first place. But I ended up getting rejected too. I guess they didn't like my experiences either.. =\

Maybe they're looking for something specific in their applicants?

^ You have an MCAT subset that is low.

7/17 This is to confirm that your application to Boston University School of Medicine is now complete

Not a single email since then.

Lol I don't think an Mcat subset score is killing him at BU.....

how many people actually wrote the optional essay?
I feel really bad for leaving it blank but if I write anything it'll just be something really short about how I like their program. But considering that their program is very similar to other schools and that I have no previous experience with their school it seems kind of pointless....

A lot of people on here, including myself, left it blank and have gotten interviews. Only put something there if it's REALLY specific to BU and you haven't addressed it anywhere else.

I did need that space to explain a one-semester transfer to a different school and the family reasons behind it. And I got an interview. So, my personal thoughts are that it should be used if you haven't been given enough space to explain something that is important to your application. If not, leave it blank, because I don't think that they are looking for fluff responses.

Don't send a LOI now. During interview day, Dr. Witzburg, the dean of admissions, talks about how LOI doesn't mean anything until you actually interview and have time to think if BU the right place for you. LOI pre-interview is useless.

I surmised as much, but I sent one anyway. I've been sitting on "complete" since 7/5, and figured I'm likely getting rejected soon, so I added a brief LOI. Probably won't help, or hurt.

I wrote this earlier, but I was wondering if anyone thinks a LoI pre-interview would be useful if I mention I have a SO that recently moved to the area for grad school. So scared of rejection pre-interview!

The Committee on Admissions of Boston University School of Medicine has completed its review of your application. It is with great regret that I inform you that we will be unable to offer an interview this year. This is a disappointment, as much for those who are responsible for the decision as it may be for you, the candidate who is turned away.

07/17. I thought I had decent stats and a good story, guess not lol.

How many more schools did you guys apply to? Not sure why, but even one rejection hurts, can't wait for the rest haha. One by one the strings are cut!

Still in the running for 26 others, but BU was definitely one of my favorite so the rejection stings a bit more 🙁 Heres to a better rest of the week for us! :xf:

The monster got me. I'm out. Good luck to the rest of you still in the running.

Complete 7/17

It's ok, I kinda knew it was coming. I'm just glad they get it over with instead of dragging it out like some schools do.

I have been complete since 7/17.... I guess I am next to get axed??? 🙁

Complete 7/11... still no contact!
