Hey guys, my application was complete in early August, but I haven't gotten a response yet and I know interviews aren't being handed out that much anymore. Is it reasonable to contact Admissions with a letter of intent? I only want to send one if it will be taken seriously. If I were to send one, I would outline my strong reasons for liking the school. I did send an update letter already.

Let me know! Hope to get an interview like many of you.
 
^ same here. I think some of the people were saying that they don't consider them.
 
it still says Application Screening 🙁 I was complete pretty late though (9/30)
 
Hmm a couple member posted complete around October and got an II. If u haven't been rejected yet that's good news. Just sit tight, I don't think a letter would necessarily help Pre-interview, but you can always call and check. You have some great stats so I'm sure it'll work out.

I'm not sure but I know people have slowly been receiving rejections since the beginning. There were a bunch of them about a week ago.
 
Yeah I'm still in application screening. I applied PCLT and MD. Complete mid-August.
 
Hi can any Duke med students chime in on their experiences here. How tough was it to have the entire first year condensed into one and how much time did you guys have to spend in class that first year? I have acceptances at two great schools and Im trying to decide if I should attend my interview or not.
 
I just got an interview invite! I was complete mid-August. I went to to the status page to pick a day though and it says "click here to schedule" but when I click, it says: There are no available interview sessions scheduled at this time. Please check back later to schedule your interview session.

I guess I'll give them a call? Anybody else having this problem... seems strange to be giving out an II if they don't have more days left!!

Just give then a call. On last years thread, people who got interview invites around this time also said they didn't have an available date to be scheduled. I think they called and the problem was resolved when more dates were added. No big deal. Congrats on the interview!!

Does anyone know the school code for FAFSA? I misplaced my info from interview day.

Submitted Dec 1. All the spots are filled but there was a subsequent email stating the adcom will be meeting to open 3 more dates in Feb.
 
anyone remember when they said decisions would come out? I'm recalling a march date but I can't remember when exactly. Thanks.
 
Have many people been rejected pre-interview? I've been in "application screening" for months now, and I'm beginning to think there will just be a big dump of rejections at the end of interview season...

This is what I'm expecting- it sounds like they're down to their last few interview slots 🙁
 
Same. I'm thinking about withdrawing...kinda like quitting before your get fired haha
 
In one of the articles I read a while back and linked on here, it said that two people read your essays and then if they both agree your invited for an interview. If they disagree, Dr. Armstrong reads them and makes the final decision. It could be that you guys are in the disagreement pile and you'll be looked at again before the invitations to interview stop.

If your super curious I'm guessing you guys could try giving a call.

I'm in the same boat. I think you're right about the big dump... kind of nice to be expecting it though. At least it won't come as a shock.
 
Good luck everyone, I'm out, which is no shock but I'm just surprised it didn't happen a few months ago.
 
Rejected today as well. All those essays for nothing! 😛

Rejected complete mid october(?) 3.9 35. Woohoo now it will be a lot easier to be a part of the rivalry between UNC and Duke. Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting for an interview and on the decision day!

I was! Weirdest thing last week I had the exact same status as everybody else posted. Something like we have reviewed your app, its great, blah blah, but cant offer you an interview. Then this morning, 7a.m. mountain time, I received an interview. My status changed, and I am scheduled for Feb 14th.
 
Wow thats awesome! Dont hear cool stuff like that happening often!
 
It is always nice to hear that stuff I think. Had a a student host at Tulane tell me how he was rejected pre-interview, he showed up at the admiss office, asked to talk to dean and see how to improve app. He got an interview a week later and got in that year! There are some good heart warming inspirational stories out there in md application world. They are just hidden in the pile of dream crushing stories!

That's amazing, congratulations!
 
Did you send an update or anything recently that they might have considered? I am in the "declined pool" and I was holding on for dear life...after hearing what happened with you, I am wondering if there is anything I can do to help a resuscitation. However, I presume, it would be ridiculous for me to send a letter of update post decline, but just wondering how something that awesome happened. Congrats!!!

I did have a letter written on my behalf emailed to the admissions office a few weeks back. I am pretty sure they do not consider those things, and it was sent as I said pre-rejection, but who knows. At this point I think whats the harm in a last ditch effort. I think a lot of the time people do not call or email, or hell just show up at the office because they are afraid of being perceived as annoying and turning the admissions people off. Sometimes, perhaps that is the case, however I have heard many stories of those determined acts working out in their favor. Wayne Gretzky said it best "you miss 100% of the shots you don't take." Not at all. Mine are UNIMPRESSIVE. 3.65 32P. I think what helped me was very extensive and unique volunteer and research work. Ranging from running philanthropic programs that raised $10,000 for a local hospital to working for Yakama nation as part of Yakima-Klickitat fisheries project to restore native Pacific Chinook and Coho salmon runs. Also I work full time at a Orthopaedic research clinic and have written two book chapters, two more on the way, and am principal investigator on three projects, and co on another 3.
 
Also I say go for it. I will tell you the worse that can happen because it happened to me. Showed up convinced I could sway my state school, Dean heard me out for all of 45 seconds before saying it wasn't going to happen. She was nice enough to then give me advice for next 30 minutes. But hell if the worse that can happen is they say no interview, then your in the same boat your in now.
 
Funny how you got an interview at Duke and have such great experiences, and yet your state school was not swayed? You have really impressive ECs. I have a lot of research experience and some interesting health-related international experience including a yearlong fellowship, BUT I don't have the publications (your list is very impressive!). Oh well, here we go...will probably try to stop by their office tomorrow. 🙂
