Waitlisted 2 years ago. Rejected this year pre-interview via status =(

So sorry to hear that. I got let down by Duke this year too. oh well... hope other schools are giving you good responses!

Anybody who has already interviewed have any interview preparation advice?

My biggest piece of advice is to just relax. You can't really do much to prepare for the MMI aside from being comfortable speaking to new people. It's a fun interview day, and make sure to ask the students questions they really helped me learn about the school.

You can google mmI practice and some questions will pop up that were given by a school in Canada. That may help you a bit.

Don't know if you can answer this but are there a lot of health care related topics or more just general?

I have done an MMI but it was not healthcare specific at all.

Sorry. I won't answer any questions that pertain to the topics discussed. It's against the NDA.

What's a typical schedule for a Session #1 interview? I didn't save the information that came up when I was signing up for an interview date. Thanks!

I had a morning session. It went something like this:

*8-8:30 register
830-9 you meet with students and eat breakfast. Pretty much you socialize and ask everyone questions.
9-9:45ish? Dr. Armstrong comes and speaks with your interview group
then I think you have a break and from
10ish-12ish you have your MMI's
the rest of the afternoon is spent eating lunch, listening to a financial aid presentation, taking a tour and then Mr. Wallace sends everyone off with a great speech. I think I finished around 4? My group was rather small though on interview day.

Its a great day. Best of luck

Interviewed here recently and LOVE LOVE LOVED it 😍 "Early March" can't come soon enough!

A couple questions for either a medical student or someone who has interviewed recently:
1. Is the entire interview MMI or will there be some one-on-one interview with either a student or faculty member?
2. This may be a dumb question but, since they have the special curriculum beginning clinicals year 2, I was wondering do Duke students take step one after year 1? Or year 2 like the rest of the schools?

I forgot my last question! Is Duke receptive to updates, and after you have received an invitation to interview should you send those updates pre or post interview.

I don't feel comfortable answering #1, but Duke students still take Step 1 after the second year. It did seem like there was a lot of variability with regards to scheduling though. Some take it right after 2nd year and others well into the 3rd/research year. Not sure how that compares to other schools.

On the interview feedback portion for duke a student posted that they average 245+. I don't know how accurate that is. Bit from the match list we got on interview day, I wouldn't doubt it

Anyone who has interviewed stay with a student host, and would you recommend it? Some schools I thought it was very worthwhile and "fun" others it was more just going through the motions I guess, no real benefit.

if you stay with a student host and get there early enough, you will probably get taken out and shown around and it will be well worth it. everyone will go out of there way to take care of you. highly recommended if you can find a host.

Anyone notice anything funky with the duke med supplement site.? I logged in for the first time in a while to see if they put in our statuses a date when decisions would be released, and it had my "progress" going to 90 percent and saying my app is incomplete?

I just checked, and mine says my application is complete, but the progress bar only shows 90%. I'm so stoked for march! I can't wait to hear back from Duke. Amazing school.

Haha ok cool that's what mine is reading too. And I'm super stoked too! About 30 days? I think it's march 4 this year since that's the first Monday in march!

so does everybody hear on the same day regardless of when you interviewed? If so why are some people claiming to have already been accepted?

Usually, I think an article I read said first Monday in march. I know MD/PHD hear mid Feb. I've heard of maybe a small small small number of people getting an unofficial call like a week or two early. Other than that it's march for most applicants b

tick tock....man this feels like forever. A guy can only play so much words with friends to pass the time. common march.

words with friends? that's so last month, it's all about angry birds! 😍

I sent an update and they were very receptive.

Was this pre or post interview? I sent one in before I got my invite but it wasn't acknowledged. Wondering if I should re-send it after my interview next week.

I doubt at this point they would make much of a difference since your ranked pretty soon after your interview. Couldn't hurt though.

post. Honestly, who is to say it actually makes it into my file. It seems a lot of people are saying they don't accept updates. Best to call them directly and ask what the deal is just to be sure.

Thanks, I'll probably send it again right after my interview. I did call a while back but I got a very vague answer ("it may or may not have been added to your file and it may or may not be considered"), so I was just wondering if anyone else knew something concrete.

I called the day after I interviewed last month, and the person I talked to said they don't consider update letters.

2 weeks! Maybe a little less. Haha it's been such a long wait.

Is it really March 1? I remember at the interview that it was said March 15th would be about when we could even begin to expect anything. I could be wrong though.

I remember being told they were aiming to have decisions released the first week of March, but don't hold me to it

I think if u interviewed before jan/feb u can expect something the first Monday in march. I may be wrong though but in the past that's how it has been. And those who interviewed later may get their decisions like a week or 2 after

+1

Does anyone have the % chance of acceptance after interview statistic at hand? I don't think it matters but I'm OOS. Thanks

It's roughly a third. A little less Typically they try to interview ~750 and then accept like 180-200 if I remember correctly. The USNWR isn't very accurate because they interviewed 1000 from that year the data is reported from.
