Can someone shed some light on DukeMeds grading system? Thanks

P/F Pre clinical (first year) then I think H/P/F for your clinical (2nd) year. I'm not sure how third year works out. I know you need a thesis. And fourth year I have no clue.

Does anyone know how many people were accepted, waitlisted, and rejected? I'm nervous about asking since I'm on the waitlist, and I don't want to do anything that might even maybe make me stand out in a non-positive way.

I know I can't be the only one who wants to know this.

Everytime I get an email from RDubs, my facial muscles just involuntarily pulls into an awww face.

Can I pick schools based on their admissions deans?!

Since you mention it, I started to feel like the people behind the school's admissions process says a lot about the school itself and the students they look for. So in a way, yes, i think that's totally an acceptable thing to do. Knowing that people like RW were the ones combing through applications and fighting for the students who were admitted makes me feel very comfortable that I'm going to be spending the next 4 years with some pretty fantastic classmates.

+1, see you guys in the fall!

Is it possible to do clinical research for the 3rd year scholarly project? or does it have to be basic science research or dual-degree?

It's DEFINITELY possible to do clinical research. I know a couple Duke med students right now doing clinical research projects during their third year. Here's a couple links showing you what third year is all about (basically you can do anything you want, as long as you get it approved and you can write a thesis on it).

So since the third year is all research, Duke essentially makes its students pay to do research? Or am I confused or over-simplifying things?

You can do any sort of research during third year -clinical, basic, translational, etc. You can set up a project anywhere around the country (especially with an NIH fellowship, which many Duke students get) or go the world (Doris Duke Fellowship). Many people also chose to do dual degrees, such as MBA, MPH, MsCR (and there is funding for some). Third year is the best part of the Duke curriculum, and most students end up coming up with numerous publications in time for residency applications.

The way tuition works is that you pay the cost of 4 years of medical school, so then if you decide to extend your research or work on advanced degree, there are no more costs.

Hey, did u guys get info to set up an account from dukes OIT? I set one up and whenever I login it says "your not authorize to view this page" anyone else having the same issue?

Have any accepted applicants heard anything about scholarships from the financial aid office yet or will that information come later?

I didn't get anything to set up an account through OIT. Was it email or snail mail?

My guess is that the financial aid office might be creating accounts in alphabetical order because my last name is early in the alphabet and my account was created shortly after I received that email, though I could not log into it for a few days while it was getting set up because an error message said I did not have permission to access.

Also as a side note, my emails from OIT and financial aid were redirected to my spam folder. You may want to double check just In case.

Got a phone call today - turns out I've been offered a Dean's Merit Full Scholarship!!!!! Duke just moved way up my list!!! NC for another 4 years anyone?

Didn't get a phone call, but just got an email from RW this morning saying I got one too!! I was pretty sure I was going to end up at UCSF, but now things just got a whole lot more complicated. Didn't see this coming in a million years...Yay!

:highfive: Awesome! Congrats!!! Will you be at second look?

any current students know how Duke's match turned out yesterday?!

Oh believe me, you weren't the only one. I drove around aimlessly in my car for an hour before I could finally convince myself it happened.

I just withdrew my offer...hope the open spot helps someone out! Good luck guys!

Anyone know what happens if you end up with a C+ in a class after you are accepted?

Can someone tell me the proper email to send update letters to? Thanks!

Can anyone remind me what time classes/ class type activities kick off in the mornings (or at least most mornings) for MSI's? Trying to get my sleep schedule geared properly!

From what I remember it will vary from block to block but typically (not 100% sure) classes will start around 9:00 AM, sometimes even later. I think on Tuesday's after exams they start pretty late, for example. I think there is one block (neuro) that Is a blast and you have lecture starting around 8.

Guys. Is anything happening here? What are the expected numbers for wait list movement? When are they going to start contacting people?

Or can we at least talk about how much Duke rocks in the meantime? The false hope from seeing a bumped Duke thread keeps me going.

Wait list movement is never easy to guarantee with Duke (from what I've read on previous year's threads). I would be so extremely pleased and honored to get off of Duke's wait list.

And yes, we can definitely talk about how much Duke rocks in the meantime! I completely fell in love with this school on interview day.

I've heard a lot of different things from "they never touch the waitlist" but saw on last years thread that it started moving around now.

Hopefully it moves a LITTLE

Has anyone heard of any wait list movement this year? Is anyone brave enough to ask Duke whether they expect to take people off the wait list?

I called in today and apparently the class is full
What does that mean? Currently full and potential waitlist movement later? Or permanently full, all students are locked in? I can't imagine the latter just yet, but if there's no waitlist movement at other schools, this class will probably be locked in.
