Talking about fairness of the process, life itself is not that fair. It is just time to practice getting used to it.
I never said anything about "fairness" in my post. In fact, I implied that if anything it is definitely more "fair" for Dingo to get the II than someone like me. So I'm not sure what you are referring to.
The fact that "life is not fair" does not preclude the process from being tweaked to benefit everyone.

Exactly.

Tried looking through much of this thread but no luck. Any body have any statistics on this school's small pool? Like maybe how many actually make it to the small pool, and how many are invited for interview?

Thanks 🙂

I think Thursday may be interview decision day only because all my emails from them came on Thursday so here's hoping they follow the trend.

Here's to hoping for news tomorrow... Even though I'm content with my cycle, an II and a chance at RFU would make Guero a very happy boy. 🙂 GL to all of you waiting on decisions and IIs.

All of mine came on Tuesdays, but I like the way you think 😉

Guess not this Thursday! 🙁 I REALLY wanna get off that alternate list....

EDIT: anyone who goes here know anything about when the adcom meets next/should be releasing decisions, etc?

I've been in primary screening since 11/29, which is pretty crazy. I called them and they said I will most likely be reviewed by the end of FEBRUARY?????! Anyone else in the same boat?

been and is in this boat even earlier than you!

Haven't heard a peep from them since the "you have entered the screening process" email on 12/6. Should I be expecting a rejection soon?

I'm in the same boat. Others have said they spent the past 2 months interviewing non-medical school candidates, and will interview throughout the entire spring.

I just received word that i have been placed on an alternate list for rosalind franklin, does any one know when they begin to pick students off that list?🙁

I've been on that list since December. Hopefully I'll be able to tell you today! Fingers crossed!!

Yes. Off the waitlist. Interviewed early October. Good Luck!

Okay thanks for the tip!! Anyone had any good hotel experiences near the school....? 😛

Hey Dingo Mango,

I interviewed waaaay back in October and stayed at the Courtyard Marriott hotel:
http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/chiwk-courtyard-chicago-waukegan-gurnee/

If you use the discount code from the RF e-mail about accommodations, it should only be about $99. It's still a little pricey, but the room was truly fantastic, the free breakfast was perfect, and the shuttle to CMS was great. There's a Denny's and a Wal-Mart 1 minute walking distance from the hotel. I remember talking to a couple of other interviewees who stayed there and we all agreed that it was great!!

As far as transportation is concerned, you'll need to get a cab to take you to the hotel in Waukegan, which is about 30-45 minutes north of O'Hare. If I recall correctly, I used the suggested cab transport provided by CMS in their interview invite confirmation e-mail. It was $45. On your way back from CMS to O'Hare, I would recommend splitting a cab between you and other interviewees. That's what I did and it saved me some dough. I just asked the other interviewees during the break if they were heading to O'Hare after and we just grouped up. Make cab reservations so that you don't miss your flight.

I really liked this school and it was an awesome interview day. Good luck!

(On a side note, I don't think that interviewing certain applicants is a waste. There is a reason why a school decides to bring them out to visit and a reason why the student chooses to go. Those reasons are different for every school/student. I know plenty of people who turned down top schools that they wanted to go to (pre-superstressedfromapplyingtomedschool) for schools with not as great a reputation because they found something that they truly liked about it before the interview day, and ended up loving it and myriads of other things during the interview day. It's like a first date. You come to the date knowing little about the person (heck, you probably have some bias already based on what other people have said), but anything can happen and you can end up together. And if it doesn't work out, then someone else who has been eying this girl/guy can get his/her shot. The most that person has to do is wait 😳 Anyways, sorry for the rant [and the metaphor; I've been watching way too much of HIMYM). I wish you all the best of luck!!!)

Also, I like the ranking system (though schools would still have to do interviews and top applicants will still get plenty of interviews, but it would eliminate the waitlist). Texas has a similar match system to get into med schools and I think it's great!!!

has anyone here sent an "in the area email" to RFU? what do you guys think about this approach.....waste of time or worth a shot?

Great post, I agree entirely (even down to loving HIMYM).

Personally, I always think it's a great idea. The worst that could happen is they say no. Plus it shows continued interest at a school that doesn't accept pre-interview updates (which really blows🙁). But I don't recall seeing anyone that sent one in successfully. Good luck! Please let us know how it goes.

Anywhere between one day (very rare) to effin eternity. Just go through some of our MDApps to see when we were complete and such. I've been small pooled since 11/14. But I know of plenty that have been languishing for far longer.

I had everything in by july and got an email within a few weeks of getting small pooled for an II. You're pretty late but fairly competitive. I'd say if you have good ECs then you might have a decent chance...they tend to interview mostly their post bacc program students for spots this late in the cycle though unfortunately

I recognize I am very late, unfortunately it was the earliest I could have applied this cycle.

Yea the same thing happened to me last year. Keep your head up though. Think of it this way (if you don't hear anything this cycle) next cycle, if you apply in June, you'll be all that more competitive because you'll be fighting for interview spots with only a thousand or so people (that get everything in by August) versus the several thousand that have applied by November of next cycle. The odds will be ever in your favor. On a side note, I can honestly say I never thought I'd ever be referencing the hunger games in an SDN post. Good thing it's a nerdy community!! Haha

haha you're awesome 🙂, thanks for the kind words!

Has anyone from the alternate list heard anything lately? Admissions said they'd let us know our status every time they meet whether we are still on the alternate list or accepted and I haven't heard anything since December.

Haven't heard anything either and am curious as well

Just got an interview via email 5 minutes ago! Completed secondary in September

Does anyone know the stats of accepted vs. interviewed? Sorry if this has been asked before. I glanced through and didn't find it

Interview invite today as well, will probably defer it as I am happily decided on my matriculation, hope this helps someone 🙂

Is there a facebook group yet for the accepted students for the class of 2017???

I think they received over 10K applicants last year and more than 600 were interviewed to fill a class of around 190. I honestly do not understand why they receive so many applicants.

Pretty sure it's because their accepted MCAT is on the lower side.
